Great to see the offense and defense in regular season form this week. While Big Ben only played 2 drives, the starting defense played into the 3rd quarter. There were a few surprises with personnel, and a lot of positives.

+ Edmunds with his second INT of the preseason. He looked Polamalu-esque, the way he scrambled to his feet and ran the ball with purpose and strength! He even got to truck Mariota at the end of the run, so that's 2 plusses in my book!

+ Big Ben started the game and looked pretty good, but his throw to Justin Hunter on the long touchdown was perfect.

+/- Justin Hunter had a great catch, created space, and got both feet in bounds on the long catch. However he also had a catch stripped from him by a linebacker for an interception.

+ James Connor and Jaylen Samuels both showing they can run and catch the ball out of the backfield as weapons. Connor lead the team in receptions and receiving yardage 6 for 52 yards giving him 70 total yards. Samuels led the team in rushing with 41 yards, and added 4 receptions to get his total yardage up to 77 for one half of play.

- Penalties. Mostly holding by the offense, but 3 straight penalties, and 4 in 5 plays negated a beautiful catch an run touchdown by Jaylen Samuels from Mason Rudolph.

+ Rudolph had a better outing this week going 7/11 this week for 65 yards. He finished 2 scoring drives that ended in field goals, had no turnovers, and didn't fumble the football this week. Definitely a performance to build on.

- Cameron Sutton's punt return started nicely, catching the ball and moving forward quickly in traffic, but putting the ball on the ground is the quickest way to lose your job as the punt returner on this team. Eli Rogers did it once, and didn't return a ball again last season.

+ Rosie Nix for showing he never takes a play off, by jumping on the fumbled punt return to retain possession for the Steelers.

- the QB center exchange. For another week, the QB center exchange put the ball on the ground. This week was Landry Jones' turn to make the unforced error.

+ Matt Thomas, got a lot of snaps with the first team defense, and performed very well by leading the team in tackles.

+ QB Pressure, The Titans were sacked 6 times by Heyward, Tuitt, Vince Williams, Huguenin, Hooks, and Adeniyi (who now has sacks in 2 straight games).

+ Chris Boswell celebrates his contract extension, by going 3 for 3 in field goals, and hitting his extra point for a perfect day.

+ Punter Jordan Berry rebounded from a terrible game last week, with a nice pin punt inside the 10, and a good 52 yard distance punt. Matt Wile added 2 more punts and had a 58yd long punt.

+ Kick coverage was outstanding, both on punt team and kickoff team. Very little yardage was had by the Titans, and each time they ran the ball out of the endzone on kickoffs, they failed to reach the 20 yard line.

Play of the game:

Was the beautiful long ball to Justin Hunter. He got a good low jam to create separation, extended, and got both feet in bounds on the touchdown.

The play that turned the game:

Was the same long play, but it was due to the way it was initially called. The referees thought the play was out of bounds. Coach Tomlin threw a challenge flag and the play was correctly overturned to become a touchdown. Hey, it's preseason for the refs too! The defense played so well that the Titans could never recover from that play.

I read with had a few injuries. I hope they are nothing serious.

Samuel's had a great showing, caught the ball out of back field really well, made a few runs when nothing was there and his TD that was called back he did some smart running behind his blockers.

Didn’t get to watch thoroughly but was impressed with the RBs. I’m sure it wasn’t intentional but I hope Le’Veon got a message that there is talent behind him and they can catch passes and make people miss too

I doubt he is thinking about anything but himself.

I keep trying to find that play, but not having any luck. Does anyone have a little clip of the play they can show? I heavily favor Jaylen Samuels as our Swiss Army knife and would’ve loved to see the play.

I only watched most of the first half

Ben a tad rusty in spots but its Ben, he will be ready 9/9
Connor, Tuitt,, Vince, Boz, Thomas, Jesse, Edmunds all impressed me
The fear of injury is so great, they need to go to two preseason games imo

OLB and ILB are going to be tough cuts. Both #5s are making pushes for playing time.

To tell you the truth, I think Bostic should be cut. He's the most expensive and doesn't show anything more than the rest of the ILBs. Right now, I'd rather cut Bostic than risk losing Fort or Thomas.

OLB is tougher, because all of them are making plays. Dupree looked excellent last night. Chick did well, as did Adams and OA, They are all playing well and Hugenin and Hooks even added sacks from the 6 and 7 spots.

Game ball on offense would go to Samuels, especially if you include his TD that got called back. That was a thing of beauty.

Defense should be Thomas with an honorable mention to Tuitt. The whole D hummed last night, and looked like it has a chance to be very good. Pressure starts up front, and if Heyward, Tuitt, and Hargrave are collapsing the pocket, we are going to make it tough for QBs to play us.

The offense looked much better without Haley

Agree on the positive comments about Samuels. Connor looked a tick hesitant at times, and seemed to let the defenders close a running gap. Samuels blew through the defensive line, particularly on two runs outside of the left tackle, and turned upfield for nice gains.

Samuels is also quite good catching the ball in the middle of the field. Good catching technique, hands catches, turns his attention to the defense very quickly, and simply does a superior job at finding a crease and getting the most available out of the play.

By-the-by, the three holding calls in six plays were pure bullshit. Two of them were absolutely ticky-tack. It was almost comedic, as if the referee felt that he had to call a requisite number of holding calls just to show he was busy.

Finally, I think the refs made a mistake in saying the Titans receiver was down or whatever, where Fort took the ball away and scored a TD. The guy never had complete possession of the pass, was bobbling it, and Fort took it away. Should have been a defensive TD.

Personally I like what I saw from JaySam more than from Connor. This kid looks to be the complete type back that can do it all. Although he never had to block much at NC so that could be an issue.

I liked the way Sutton returned punts despite the fumble. Very decisive..find a hole hit it get upfield

Yeah but you can't throw out that fumble. And that might prevent the Steelers from using him there come regular season.

AJ and Slash, I agree with both of you. He caught the ball in traffic and exploded up the field.

But on this team, fumbling is the biggest no no on return teams. It made Eli lose his PR spot back to AB and he never got it back.

And this is probably why we just traded for Switzer
