This question is posed by Ed Bouchette.
How will a few series in a preseason game Aug. 25 help a quarterback be ready for the Sept. 9 start of his 15th season? Will he be more prepared for that opener in Cleveland by playing briefly against the Tennessee Titans at Heinz Field?

Is the risk of injury — which is why Roethlisberger won’t have played in the other three preseason games or for very long Saturday — worth it?

“I probably don’t need to, but I’d like to get in there a little bit,’’ Roethlisberger said. “I think it helps knock the rust off a little bit. The speed is different from practice to a preseason game; even regular-season games, the speed is different.”

No. It's not worth it. Let him shake the rust off during an embarrassing division loss on opening day at Cleveland. It just seems like this team doesn't appreciate preparation enough, or they have an inflated sense of how good they are. "I probably don't need to.." Yeah you do. Everyone does. And it should be for more than a few snaps.

I think we are the only team that has so many starters and especially starting QB barely play at all during the pre-season. Of course, we don't want any injuries but they must play some or they won't be ready for the season. Ben started slow last year and Bell took 5 weeks to get on track after missing all of camp. So, yes, it is important that Ben play in this game and it should be for more than one series.

Marcia, Flaccid, and Chortles all played week two and are/will play this week, the last opportunity to play against starters in the preseason.

You play and depending on performance you play them to the half. If the first series they are sharp, then you substitute.

What's funny is many who would say he should play in the preseason more, would be the same people frothing in rage towards Tomlin if he got injured. "He didn't need to be in there", "why would Tomlin play Ben more than one series"

Some of you may not react that way, but you know this would be the case.

Don't count me in that group. Tomlin sucks, but I would not fault him in that particular case. Everyone realizes the risk, and I, along with most of the coaches in the NFL, think it is necessary.

get the rust off he played like crap vs clev last year and that dreadful jags game to start off.

Do whatever Ben wants, it's his offense, his team, he will be the reason we win or lose.

40 points or bust every game!

This is why we slow start all the time. ******* afraid to be play. This is stupid. Play scared get hurt.

Your ***** has played more than our *****, **** the CHEATRIOTS !!!!!!!!!

Salute the nation

Give the man his reps.
He could get injured in any game. So just throw him out there for some greasin' and groovin'. --- non pervy jokes

This is where coaching comes in to play. He was still missing passes in that brief preseason appearance. They should have played him until he looked sharp.

they didn't plan on the rain
