By Brandon Wallace SteelerNation.com Shortly after the Pittsburgh Steelers signed their pro bowl kicker Chris Boswell to a new 5-year deal worth nearly $20 million on Thursday, the Steelers also gave inside linebacker Vince Williams a new 4-year deal through 2021. Last season, Williams had careers highs in both tackles (88) and sacks (8). Entering […]

Why give such a llong contract to an older LB with limited talent like Williams, Larry Foote part 2.

28 years old is hardly an older LB. And his game has never been about speed, it's being smart and being in the right spot. You can't have all pro's at every position, you need guys like Vince, they put in the work, they are where they need to be, and are solid at what they do. Everyone wanted to knock Foote too, until he got hurt and that middle of the D was just completely and utterly a mess. Vince gives you some stability. And a 20m contract is peanuts for a starting LBer.

28 is getting old for a thumper in a passing league, he will be exposed once again this year, bad move to extend a below average LB.

Foote was very underrated and under appreciated. I do not think Vince is at that level though. Vince is solid but i would consider him average overall. He is the best MLB wt have, but that is not saying much.

yeah cause the guy behind him is going to be so ******* awesome next year. wait who is the guy behind him?

So you sign a mediocre LB to a 20 million dollar contract ? Williams needed to be replaced and upgraded and instead we extend him for way too much money. What was the rush ?

You can't have all pros at every position. Williams is a solid football player who developed into quite a pass rusher last year.

We are paying him like he is a very good LBer, he's not and better players will be cut and available or be free agents next year. could have waited and upgraded, hell, Michael Kendricks is getting paid less than this guy and was available for a song.

Solid signing. Always expected from the Steelers looking after their own

i can't think of Foote without seeing him 2 yards behind Rice, repeatedly, on simple dumpoffs that netted 20 yards each time.

Vince is a tad bit slow but he knows the system.
He's a useful LBer

Not at 5 million a year . Tomlin loves some mediocre players like Touissan , Grimble, McCullers and Williams

So you think a guy no one wanted besides the Browns would be a better option? Lol .

Keep on posting. You'll be banned soon as I feel like it. I'm sure you'll find your 100th IP though.

You have no idea if only the Browns wanted him. We all know he is BETTER than Williams and cheaper. We are now stuck with Williams as a starter the next 3 years unless you wanna pay a mediocre ILB 5 million a year to be a backup. Another bad move by Colbert and Tomlin.

Bwahahahahah - he would be 3rd string on any good defense

Steelers have lost their minds, totally forgotten how to draft LB's and DL and overpay the schmoes they have.

Williams wouldn't get an offer on the open market for 5 million a year, He is a dime a dozen run stopper who sucks in pass coverage . But who would replace him next year, LOL. ILB is a huge problem on this yteam and we just paid one of the problems a ton of money to continue his suckitude.
