After a well-deserved day off, the Pittsburgh Steelers were back at St. Vincent field for their training camp practice, even with the rain making an appearance. As noted by head coach Mike Tomlin in his post-practice interview, referees were introduced for the first time at camp and used at a minimum capacity in this session. […]

I have not read much about our 5th round pick Allen until today. The fact that Tucker burned him and it wasn't even close makes me worry he's just not fast enough to play coverage in the NFL.

Its very early but our first two picks are exceeding expectations! Edmunds is flashing a lot of talent and standing out. He's leading all players in camp with 3 interceptions. Looks like a great pick! Both Tomlin and Haden had very nice things to say about Edmunds. It would take some balls, but why give him a chance to start as a rookie by starting him in 2 pre season games?

Washington is #2 in receptions so far and betting a variety of DB's His consistency isn't there yet, but for rookies I look at who can flash ability for the coaches to mold.

Our 3rd best rookie so far would be Samuels.

To the board: Give me your three most impressive rookies so far.

To be honest unless someone has been to camp to see these guys firsthand we would all just parroting what were being told in the press. I will wait to give my real impressions until I see them on the field.

I would like to believe all of this, but the local press always talks up the guys. We will see in the first preseason game.

The three PG reporters said Allen has looked pretty good. Getting burned once will happen more than once for any rookie during camp.

Which three said this and how did they say it? Getting beat happens, getting toasted by a guy not likely to make the team is a red flag. We'll see. I don't think he'll hold up in coverage.

Coach, it was one damn play. In training camp. Holy hell. Get over it.

Here you go Coach. Tucker also beat Joe Haden deep. Is that a red flag? It was one play Coach. From the article......

At Sunday's practice, he displayed both quickness and effort. He beat Joe Haden as well as young safety Malik Golden deep

I have read Haden doing lots of good things. For example in the same practice:

Washington crosses Haden’s face running a slant. Great recovery by the corner, working over the top and breaking the throw up.

Can you show me something good in coverage that Allen did?

Are you serious? Three separate reporters have said he is doing pretty good. Not outstanding, but doing pretty good. You question the manner in which they said it. Really? He was doing well enough, he ran with the starters yesterday. Besides, we are comparing a safety to a corner, a rookie to a ten year vet. Yes I know I made the comparison first. Point was, players get beat. Even by scrubs. It happens. And this one happened in camp, where the rookie is still learning.

Dude is a rookie, and a 5th round pick at that. He got beat on one damn play. What some fans expect from players just because they put on a certain jersey is ridiculous.

Currently Markus Tucker is projected to make the roster. He's the #2 Slot and #3 X. He had a killer mini camp, but there is a lot of competition for that second slot spot. Tucker has to fend off Samuels and Hunter, who are gaining snaps. All three are well ahead of Quadree and Jones. Eli isn't in the conversation, as he can't cut yet.

Chukes is killing it. As much as some people here want to throw shade at the guy, he's getting first team snaps at LT (When Villa banged up his bicep/shoulder) and second team snaps at RT. Alex Kozora is writing a daily camp diary on Steeler Depot. It's a comprehensive read, but very in depth. I highly recommend it if you want to read how the players are doing, and where they are lining up. He focuses on WR vs DB, then does some OL v DL. Sometimes he catches the backs on backers as well.

You're a ******* idiot.

Coach get off the agenda, it’s camp. They are putting in the defense in stages. Everyone is getting looks everywhere. Mighty Mike is playing some backend safety as well.

And for up-tenth time, Allen was drafted as a box safety/hybrid not for his coverage ability. After OTAs he was being used as a walk up dime backer because of his tackling acumen. Korza and Lolley are blogging the reps each practice. Read so you know more before you act informed.

Read the three PG Q&A's from this week.

And according to Alex K, the D has won all the 7 shots this training camp. It's 7 plays to score from the 2. O gets a point for a TD, D gets a point for the stop. 7 plays, or 7 shots to score.

Yeah, but how did he say it?
