I'm thought about the hubbub Finland summit and here and my thoughts.
First, I think it's really worthwhile to read the entire transcript of the press conference.

I thought there were some very good things said by both sides during this. Putin is smart and so was Trump in my opinion maybe up until the very end. When you consider what was REALLY talked about: energy competition, Israel/Syria, Crimea, I'm not sure the 2016 election meddling is very high on Trump's list. I think he's tired of talking about it. I think he asked Putin, got and answer and quickly moved on.
I think you have to understand that to Trump, the election meddling is just no big deal. He strongly feels it did nothing to effect the outcome of the election, no matter how the democrats, media, intelligence community quack about it.
I will also say that he didn't exactly agree with Putin. He answered the question with a question "Why would they want too?" He told the press what Putin said and he asked a rhetorical question. Not sure that's 100% coming out and saying "I believe Putin".
I also think that when you ask Trump about Russia and election meddling, he is now answering the question Russia and "collusion" as much as just "meddling" like buying facebook ads or hiring trolls to create division in social media. When you read Trump responses (both leading up to the foot-in-mouth blurb) he was almost exclusively talking about "collusion" with Russia. NOT whether Russia did anything else, only whether Russia did something with HIM or HIS TEAM.
All that said, I didn't like the way he stated his answer at the end. It was too easily pounced upon by the press as "sky-is-falling" and too easily used by Russia as a "win" (although who really cares about that). He could have stated it a bit better.
I do believe Russia is NOT the U.S.S.R. anymore. Times are different. This is not quite the same type of adversary it was from 1950-1990. I think Putin's and Russia's goals are much more economic than they are territorial. When I read between the lines of what Putin is really interested in it's about maintaining good energy prices (not too low, not too high). I think it's the cause of their increased interest in the Middle East (and why they want a foothold with the Syria/Iran Shia group). I think its part of why they annexed Crimea.
But Russia the economic enemy is actually much less a threat than China the economic enemy. And Europe really needs to take the lead on how to deal with Russia as an economy because Europe is 10 times bigger GDP-wise. Russia will never be one of the "Big-3" economies. It's importance is really only limited to energy and very raw materials (lumber, grain).
In conclusion, I don't think this is all that big a deal. I don't like what he said, but it wasn't treason or "high crimes and misdemeanors" or anything like that. Once again, everyone (i.e. media) loves to cry chicken little and "this is the end". And I do think the phrase "keep your friends close and enemies closer" resonates with Trump.
You have to wonder why the intelligence community doesn't let 2016 go and start to show Trump NEW intelligence that shows Russian meddling NOW. That seems to me as a way to push Trump to do something. When you keep bringing up 2016, he immediately defends himself, ties it to "collusion" and doesn't believe it (because he never colluded in my opinion). Not saying what Trump did was right but I understand where he's coming from.

Poland has repeatedly requested a permanent U.S. military presence on its soil and has offered up to $2 billion in funding for such a base. U.S. soldiers are now present on its soil through NATO's back-to-back rotation.

The National Guard's deployment to the southwest border in mid-April has led to 10,805 "deportable alien arrests" of people who illegally entered the United States from Mexico, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokeswoman said
The National Guard's presence also helped lead to the interception of more than 3,300 others who were turned back before they crossed into the U.S
There are 1,601 National Guard troops at the border assisting with various surveillance, maintenance, and related operations. That number could tick up considerably if the 4,000 National Guard troops President Trump approved on April 4 are called on in a future request from CBP.
Troops are providing support from the air, surveillance backup, and assistance with infrastructure projects like vegetation clearing and road maintenance, not including border wall construction. Another task is to specifically free up agents to leave their desks and get back out to the field. The troops monitoring remote video surveillance systems have then been able to report sightings to a greater field of agents, and thus the number of apprehensions has increased, officials said.

There are military reasons why the white/baby blue paint scheme would be preferable, but I guess in today's electronic warfare environment it doesn't matter. It used to be a thing, however. Looking forward to the new paint scheme.
