and one can't help but wonder if his "grandpa" in AZ will try to bribe him to go there instead.

Thoughts?

The Rooney's would be absolute morons to let Ben walk! It took 26 years to find a Franchise QB. I'd call Arians and offer him Landry Jones giftwrapped with a big Red & White ribbon on his head for a case of Iron City Beer though!

Ben isn't going anywhere.

According to a lot here, he's an idiot and a big dummy and we'd be idiots to not trade him.

I admit I was off by one year. Sorry about that. Still, the idea is there.

He sucks, we should trade him to Cleveland for Manziel and their first round pick.

Then sign Fu.

The question is, how many good years does he have left and what happens after?

Ben is signed thru 2015 and at that point we could just tag him for 2016. And if he does not sign with us it would leave him a 35 year old free agent. Not saying he doesn't have any football left in him at 35 but I can understand the team willing to part ways with him if he demands too much money and allowing him to play his last 2-3 years in Arizona or Minnesota. What I think happens is that becomes a real option and Ben and his agent sign a nice lucrative long term deal this offseason but still being cap friendly for the Steelers and everyone wins. He gets paid and the Steelers get their franchise QB for the findal 3-5 years of his career.

Well, Arians benched his starter yesterday when the game was still within hand. The starter who won the last 2 games for them. Ben isn't going anywhere although he has seemed to struggle a bit this year with what to do with the ball. He has taken several sacks because he seems like he will not run the ball. It's almost as if there is an electric dog fence at the line of scrimmage. He just won't run the ball anymore even when it is obvious he should.

Ben will be extended in the off season. He has 4 maybe 5 years left. These talented QB's don't come by too often. There are so many poor to very average QB's in this league so don't look for Rooney to do anything drastic. I would say within the next couple drafts, look for a high pick to be invested in a legitimate eventual replacement for Ben. Someone they can groom for a few years.

I'll tell you what the **** they better do after this season. Draft a real LT in the first round to replace the stopgap we have now in Beechum. He's a nice kid and very good swingman who you can plug in for an occasional start, but he's not a starting LT in the NFL.

Oh goody, another "This is Ben's contract year" thread.

Fixed it for yaz

Salute the nation

I can see Ben playing 3 to 5 more good years. Question is when to draft his replacement. If he only plays 3 more, then this year might be the year. I would hope we get more like 5 more good years out of Ben. If that is the case, we need to draft his replacement in 3 years, give or take. I'd like to have his replacement sit behind Ben for two years, if possible, but that is tough to predict.

The Haley offense is obviously an attempt to make it 5 rather than 3 years left for BB... That is the only explanation that makes any sense to his continued presence and about the only redeeming aspect of his offense. Question: do we want 5 more years of Ben if it means 5 more years of the Haley concepts?

I cant help but to worry that tomlin will still be here when they go to pick Ben's successor. I mean, we've sucked pretty bad at developing players at multiple positions since the commencement of his stewardship; I cant imagine the trainwreck we'll get to see when he gets to influence a new guy at the qb position

The return of the 60s. Then we will be hearing how he kept the franchise stable for all those years with us being close to 8 and 8 every year either a little above the line or a little below the line.

Or like the 80's when we replaced Bradshaw or the 90's when we replaced O'Donnell. Not many coaches have ever done it quickly.
