Mason Rudolph.....

I doubt they retire at the same time.** Centers do not last as long as his game is not based on power.* Its based on movement and quickness, which drop off as you age.

He's undersized and average at moving DT's backward for the ground game.* He's at his best on the move, pulling, combo blocks, etc...

In terms of value to the team the following players I think to mean more*on game day.** I'll see if I can name 10 of them.

Ben
Bell
AB
Ju-ju
Gilbert
Big Al
Heyward
Tuitt
Watt
Burns
Haden

That is 11 guys, you can argue one or two, and I didn't even list DeCastro, or Boswell.

Bottom line: Pouncey was replaced twice by*two different journeymen and we did not lose much. But if one of the above players 11 players I mentioned goes down, we are in some trouble as a journeyman can't replace them.

You include Al and Gilbert, but leave off two All-Pro linemen on that list.

Idiot.

To Be fair, when Pouncy was replaced by Velasco, they didn't seem to miss a beat. That said, Velasco is now out of football. Player relations for Univ. of Georgia.

The issues I had with Pouncey early on was that he was hurt all the time. Missed like all but two full seasons or something. Then when his rookie deal was up we handed him the highest salary for a center ever. As for now...he is at least earning his paycheck while on the field. For as all world everyone on this site thinks he and DeCastro are. It seems odd that they can't get any push on 3rd or 4th and inches. Go figure. That all said I'm glad we have the line we have. :)

To be fair, we changed our blocking scheme when Pouncey was out and Velasco put balls on the ground.

Are you serious? Andrew Luck was considered the best quarterback prospect in decades when he came out, which made it much easier to move on from Manning. Rudolph isn't even in the same area code as Luck was coming out and early reports are that he has the weakest arm in mini camp.

its the colts fault they never gave him a ol, and let him scramble so much

No wonder he is out of football,......I couldn't imagine carrying a pair that size around....................

Seriously, I was against the oft injured Pouncy and then combine the "free Hernandez" hat thingy........... NOW though he is ALL PRO and rightfully so. Those that can't see that aren't watching because it takes a serious talent to make and progress down field some of the blocks he is asked to do. The ONLY thing complexing is why is BELL's YPC average so low with this great of talent on the OL ????

Either there is some revisionist theories being tossed around, or someone is looking at the wrong Pouncey.

Maurkice Pouncey, besides the 2013 season when DeCastro blew out his knee from a bad cut block and missed 15 games, has only missed 5 other games in his entire pro career. 2 maybe 3 of them being week 16 inactives.

Mike Pouncey on the other hand has missed 19 games in 6 years, 11 from his hip injury in 2016.

No doubt the brothers were idiots with the Free Hernandez stunt, but Maurkice owned up to his mistake about it. His brother hasn’t.

Absolutely. They changed by not pulling (& getting to the 2nd level) the way they did with Pouncey as Velasco was an anchor and didn't function as much else. Not taking anything away from the guy because what they did run, he executed at a level you'd hope for.

I unfortunately can't find anything from that long ago with Velasco, but here are two great examples of Pouncey's value in 2015 (when Cody Wallace filled in):

That's actually incorrect, Ike. Pouncey missed all of 2015 when he broke his fibula in the preseason and then developed the infection that required another surgery later in the year. Some were unsure he was ever coming back from that one, but he's been strong as a bull since.

I stand corrected Steelworth, thanks. Pouncey was IR’d in 2015. Since he wasn’t in the regular season roster, he’s not listed on the stat reference for 2015. My bad. I don’t know if he was a IR designate for return initially, but he did end up having 6 surgeries for that infection.

No worries brother, it happens. And 6 surgeries, damn, I didn't even know it was that many. Was a couple I thought I remembered, but's that's just crazy, and illustrates the severity of his health/injury -- and his ability to come back from it demonstrates why they love him so much, and we as fans should too.

Comes from watching the games and recognizing the blocking schemes. Velasco did well, but he wasn't blocking on the second or third levels downfield on running plays.

He did well and the coaches adjusted the game to his strengths. I'm glad he was successful, but he can't do what Pouncey does or that Pouncey is easily replaceable, that is my point.

Lol.......

Ben is currently 36 years old.
Ben has 2 years left on his current contract.
So Ben will be 38 when this contract ends.
This gives Rudolph two full years of clipboarding, film studying, getting reps ( hopefully as the 2 ), picking brains, etc.
IF Rudolph can show he belongs, then this might work out well for all parties involved.
And IF we were to win the 7th in the next 2 years, Ben may want to ride off into the sunset ala Jermone at 40.
Lot of IFs, but the ingredients are there for a possible nice smooth transition.
But everything is on Rudolph's shoulders, first and foremost, to make any of this possible.
Rudolph has to show he can ball with the big boys.

Jermone and Knoll. Two legendary Stillers.

But in all seriousness, I agree with this post.

He had the riches contract for a center ever for motivation to make it back. As far as loving him for making it back? Really? I'm glad he made it back and able to still play at the highest level ....but I don't love him for that. It was kind of his job. And again. He had the highest contract ever for a center as motivation.

I see someone else has already corrected you on Pouncey missing all of 2015, and Steelworth is correct. Poucney is average vs. bull rushes. I'm my opinion he's a little light, I do not think he's 300 pounds. More like 285. Next to the other lineman he looks small.

Maurkice Pouncey was also accused of assaulting two people drunk in a club on his birthday, as you might have guessed it wasn't captured on a place with video.

He ballasted a fan on social media saying I'm rich and your not, and whined to the media about them being on his brother's case because he was sensitive. Want more, he pissed Tomlin about talking about his injury on Social media.

You can say he hasn't been a stand up guy off the field. On the field he's good, but over rated and over paid. If the Steelers give him a 3-4 year deal after his contract expires near the tag amount, they are asking for trouble.

Never a bad report about a guy in minicamp.

Exactly. Tons of propaganda out there between draft day and camp. Ask any team right now, they love the guys they got, can't believe they got them this early, it is a great fit for our system, yadda yadda yadda.........over 50% wont be on a roster week one.

I see someone noticing the obvious. Of course Steelworth is correct, it’s why I owned up and propped him for it. Something that’s an anathema to you.

Your opinion means little, literally. You have no objectivity to your ramblings.

So you say a person/player is accused of assault and there is no video? So your are saying there is no video to prove it.

Stand up guy off the field? For being a millennial on social media? Well then, tell AB to take a hike then he has done far worse.

Seriously, you need a MRI.

The victims had injuries to show. One was a 140 pound man, the other a woman. If you for players tweeting about the injury status when the head coach say don't all I can say is you are wrong. Its just another example over the lack of control Tomlin has over his team. The other examples I showed are valid. Free a murder, I'm rich your not, etc...

Your the one with issues, pretty much every time I post, you have to reply. But fear not, I'll correct you when needed so the board remains factual.

I had to grit my teeth after watching the first link. Against Patsies, THIS is a hold on Wallace, No. 72?!?!?
