There isn't much to talk about in June, so I thought I'd start a thread on what's most important to win a super bowl. Suppose a new franchise is born in the NFL. What do they need most in order of importance to win a super bowl? This is not an easy type of thread, but in a general sense, I'll give it a try and list 40 roles. *** I reserve the right to edit this *** as more thinking is needed.

I'd rank them

1. Franchise QB. The primary need for any team to get to and win the super bowl.

2. Owner. Suprised? He hires the GM, the Head coach, and creates the culture. Some teams will never win because their owner sucks.

3. General Manager, who runs the draft, free agency, and makes the tough decision on who worth the 2nd and 3rd contract money. Also, this GM is most invoiced in the trades.

4. Head Coach. The best one takes a part of the game and turns into a specialty on offense or defense. This man also hires the coordinators and positional coaches and picks who make the team, who dresses and who starts.

5 ) Primary Pass Rusher. Either OLB, DE, or DT. Good vs. the run is nice, a premier pass rusher has special value

6 ) #1 Cornerback. An extremely important position. The NFL agrees as cornerback is the 2nd highest franchise tag amount nest to cornerback.

7 ) Left Tackle. Usually, the highest paid of the offensive lineman. Seldom do you see the best changing teams.

8 ) Wide Receiver. With the new rules, this positon not only gains the most yards, but it also produces the most significant plays.

9 ) Defensive Line. #1 DT or DE

10 ) Inside Linebacker. The three down variety that can help his team in multiple of ways

11A ) Offensive coordinator, his value goes up if the head coach does not call the plays

11B ) Defensive coordinator. Same thing. You could argue the OC or DC is more important to the success and deserved a higher ranking.

13 ) Running back. Teams don't need a good one to win the super bowl. The smart teams do not put a lot of money into this position, as they wear down quicker than most positions and are easily replaced. Teams are fine with good every down back, and a good third down again. Ours wants 17 million a year.

Other positions

14 ) Tight End
15 ) #1 Safety
16 ) Right Tackle
17 ) #2 Cornerback
18 ) #2 starting DL player
19 ) #2 WR
20 ) #2 starting safety
21 ) Center
22 ) #2 linebacker
23 ) #3 cornerback
25 ) Back Up quarterback
26 & 27 ) #3 starting Linebacker or DL player
28 ) Left Guard
29 ) The 4th DL or LB, depending on your base
30 ) Kicker - Perhaps a bit high to some, they win or lose playoff games
31 ) #3rd Offensive tackle
32 ) Right Guard
33 ) Fanbase, yes this matters. You could argue a little higher
34 ) Nose Tackle, the two down variety
35 ) #3rd saftey
36 ) Primary back up Interior OL
37 ) Kick and punt return player
38 ) Punter
39 ) Full Back
40 ) Long Snapper

Rooney does't want cheerleaders, however Adam Sandler is a Steelers fan.

Another way to look at is is how are the Steelers in the top ten needs? Pretty good, with the exception of Inside Linebacker.

1. Offensive line. Doesn't matter how good your franchise QB and RB are if they're getting the snot beat out of them.
2. Head coach.
3. QB.
4. Receivers.
5. OC.
6. RB.
7. GM
8. DL
9. DB's.
10. LB's.

Somewhere along the line there was a miscommunication and this new franchise took CMVLT. The STEELERS had left him unprotected. I see in your top ten cinerio, you must be thinking Tomlin will handle DC as well as head coach??????

Vicky showed me her boobies and I like them too!!!

Impact linemen on both sides of the ball. Once you get that you can kind of piece together the rest.

Not really, I just limited my list to ten. In today's game I think DC is way down the list. Talent on defense is more important than the coach. Make a DC #11 then.

It's only fair to give them Tomlin. We've been spoiled with his excellence for too long.

We were spoiled by Lebeau who Tomlin inherited ( A Cowher guy ) , and suffered through Haley who Tomlin picked. It remains to be seen if Keith Butler and Randy Fichtner are good coordinators.

The rest.

If there is dysfunction at the top, it isn't going to happen on the field. So when I say owner number one. that person needs to let the football people handle football and be given whatever tools the GM and HC and players need.
