Grading the 2015 draft

When I watch Dupree, sometimes I think he doesn't know the system.

My best guess is Chickillo knows " the system " a bit better. Chickillo has started nine games. He might not be as good as Dupree, but the gap between the two is not that far apart either.

If forced to choose between Dupree at 6 million a year or Chickllio at 2 million a year in free agency, I'd take Chickillo and either spend 4 million on veteran free agent OLB or draft an OLB high.

I see Chicky is back in the light again. Nice.

Dupree: C-, a disappointment as a pass rusher and run stopper.. only contributes in coverage

Coates: D, had a spark when he started now he's just garbage
Grant: D-, would be F if a higher pick
James: B+, been a solid reliable contributor which isn't easy to find in the 5th
Walton: C, has barely played, but a 6th rounder and still on the roster so.. neutral
Chickillo: C, hard to complain about a 6th rounder, but not being able to secure regular reps at a position of dire need since he got here is sad
Holliman: D, would be F but I gave them props for taking a shot at a "ball hawk" player like Holliman in this spot. I wanted someone with his skill set, just didn't pan out

Dupree is not worth more than six million a year based on his history. He's poor vs. the run, a little injury prone, lacks awareness, and only offers a better than average pass rush. I think his effort isn't the best.

That's an interesting question. I just looked it up and the date to start the 5th year option is January 1st. The last date would be early May. The Steelers optioned Dupree just before the draft on April 23rd, so they waited a good amount of time.

Personally Dupree is not Jarvis. He is a serviceable OLB and actually does a good job when he drops in coverage. Perhaps switching sides will help his game?

Yes, the Steelers waited a long time for the option year. That suggest they were thinking about it for a while.

Beating a left tackle for a sack is a bit harder than beating a right tackle for a sack. But teams tend to run right more than left, and being a weak run defender the switch could help Dupree vs. the run a little.

Dupree does a good job in coverage? I would not go that far, he breaks up few passes.

Well, you WANT it to mean that, but that doesn't mean it does. What it, really, means is that there was no "WE GOTTA DO THIS NOW" mindset, because, well...you don't.

Want to take a completely wild guess on when they picked up Shazier's? Go ahead.

My google all had stories dated 4/23 or 4/24/2017. Said it was done on Monday, which would have been 4/17. Do you REALLY think they waited that long to decide on Shaz?

I'm with Cope on Golson. Has to be an Incomplete.
Chick, IMO has to be B-/C+, min. a 6th rounder who actually contributes regularly shouldn't have the same grade as a guy who barely plays and was drafted earlier even if it is a position of need.
I have a hard time giving a 7th rounder anything less than a C. Making a roster is an automatic B for a 7th rounder, IMLTHO, Not making the roster is average = C. I don't recall when he was cut though. I suppose if cut before camp even starts, should be a lower grade!
