QBs: Ben Roethlisberger, Mason Rudolph, Landry Jones I don’t see Josh Dobbs making the roster this year, unless he has experienced some exponential improvement over the off-season. He can remain on the practice squad and find himself back on the roster in 2019. I doubt the Steelers cut Jones as he is good veteran depth […]

I could see them keeping CB Coty over S Golden. More experience...

Also not sure they will scrap Hawkins, so I could see one less WR. Rogers (on the PUP)

I could see Berhe over Golden because ST. One of the reasons we signed him.

Yeah forgot about him for a sec. (sorry missile). I could see him over Coty too.

I agree with your picks on the QBs. I don't think the Steelers would cut Rudolph since they used a 3rd round choice on him. Dobbs is out to me, too, unless he has a sparkling preseason. We also need a backup and Jones is the guy for that, as he is the only other QB among Dobbs and Ruduolph who has starting NFL experience.

Very good.

The way I see it, the following spots are open:

The 6th WR...if we keep six. Tomlin might opt to keep 5 Wr's, and place 1-2 of them on the practice squad and roll with a LB or DB who plays special teams well.

The 5th OLB.

The 4th ILB.

The 5th Safety

If that STs ace shows solid special teams play, I think he locks up the 5th spot.

The one thing that scares me is the depth at Offensive Tackle.

My only disagreement is that the Steelers won't keep 3 slot WRs. JuJu is the early projected slot in 3WR sets.

Then Eli and Tucker are both only slot receivers.

JaySam though he's the 3rd RB, I think he will be a slot WR as well. So that is 4 potential slot receivers. Since JaySam is position flexible it creates pressure on 2 positions: Slot receiver and 3rd TE. JaySam can already do what Xman can as a TE, so I don't know if he will stick.

Though pre-camp assessment of the WRs, My call would be: AB (X, but can play anywhere), JuJu (Z, Y (could handle X)), Washington (Z), Tucker (Y (X in a pinch)) DHB (XYZ-special teams), Hunter (Z).

It also depends on scheme, if this OC wants to go big at the goal line with WRs, Hunter is a keeper. Hunter is a better Z receiver than DHB, who is a much better X, and good Y. Though he's probably the best WR at running end arounds on the team).

I think Eli may be on the roster as well, but it may be as a roster exemption. If Tucker is killing it all preseason, they might not want to lose Eli, and could PUP him. PUPs happen at the start of camp, and Eli will not be ready to go fully by then. I projected him to be ready by week 3/4 of the preseason, but that is past the PUP designation. Might be best to retain the talent and keep him on the roster as an exemption, in case of a season ending injury to another slot receiver.
