With so many here on this board saying our draft is awful, I want to interject a little perspective..

Many of us rely on others for our info......Our opinion is formed & shaped to some degree by the likes of Mel Kiper et al.....Here is an interesting analysis of some of this talking heads top goofs.....

Baboon / Bufoon / Lagoon all sum up the "MEL" expert talking head. In fact I think I coined that phrase from past Mel Kiper rants, He's a "talking head".

Wonder how he will like retirement..................OH, that's right,,,,,,,,,,,, no accountability.

As I’ve said repeatedly, these so called experts are all full of crap. I remember when he criticized the Colts when Trent Dilfer wasn’t selected by them and said that’s why teams like this never win or something on that order. Their GM can’t remember his name came out and blasted Kiper.

I think I remember him tearing up the Steelers draft class. Giving us the lowest grades in the AFC North. If I am remembering correctly.

Kiper being from Bmore is so much of a homer it’s not even funny. Everything they do is perfect according to Mel.
He acts like he knows more about what each of the 32 teams needs are than their own GMs know. Personally Mel, you’re somewhat like our resident expert on this board, Coach.

This just proves the draft is a crap shoot. The best was watching the "analysts" this year freak out about the Saints trading up to draft a DE instead of Jackson.

However, there are some outside circumstances that effect whether a player is successful in the NFL. Certain players could actually be better prospects coming out but might not have the work ethic or even the right system to succeed. And injuries usually play a huge factor in most "busts".

Someone on here mentioned in another thread there is a political aspect to some of these "predictions" and the fact that Kiper was a friend of Jimmy Clausen's agent and was pimping him hard is a prime example of some potential bribery or at the very least conflicts of interest when it comes to draft experts. Speaking of which, shouldn't Kiper be retiring this year because of the Clausen bet?
 
Kiper is Baltimore thru and thru. Back in the Late 80s to mid 90s used to deliver to his house. He loved his Baltimore Colts, I would give him a "Here we go Steelers,Here we go". It would tick him off. No harm no foul. As with all the talking heads, part of their job is to get we fans to react. As others have said, Does not make them anymore Knowledgeable than a lot of posters on this or other sites. Time will work it all out.

Many a time over the last 33 years old Dracula hair cut talking head Mel has given the steelers A LOW DRAFT GRADE. It's like he has a beef with them for some unknown reason. Maybe we didn't draft his MaMa backin the 40s or something.

Mel is just a fan and like all good fans full of **** but he loves football I can take him over a lot of the ********* out there. the good morning football show on nfl network makes me wanna hurl. I remember on the radio one time Dan Derdorf said the St. Louis Cardinals were so cheap they didn’t even invest in a copy of the sporting news little alone Mel’s kipers draft report before making their picks. I went out and sent for a copy lol man I loved football still do. before the internet that’s about all you had the sporting news and Mel’s draft report. I really admire the true believers and those who would show up even if they were playing out in an old pasture it’s the love of the game that makes it purely Americana. Geez look at the draft now hard to believe the intense interest in It and the combine and lot of it is due to you guys and guys like Mel... Goooooo melllll keep up on keeping on!!!!

I honestly think the team you go to has way more of an impact than people think. Saquon Barkley would have been a bust if he went to the browns. I think a player who goes to a crappy team and ends up a bust could have been a decent player on a better team.

With there being no cap on spending for coaching if I ran a team I’d keep my talented coaches on high paying contracts without the ability to talk with other teams. Say it’s a 3 year deal guaranteed but can’t speak with any other teams until after the three years.

Melvin Kipper is what he is and that is PURE entertainment. His loud BRAVODO is proof to the entertainment value. Like him or hate him most tune into just see his outrageousness and what he has to say. Accuracy is to the way side but how you deliver your schpeel is what's it's all about. EXCITEMENT

Kiper is linked in with other sports agents, and they love it when he pumps their guys.

I meet the man at a Miami Hurricanes football game. They were playing UCLA many years back in an epic level game.

Mel sat one row down and one seat over from me. An engaging guy, willing to talk draft and in-between stuff plays. He's very much like you see on TV.The man seated to his left was had very slimy slicked back hair and dark sunglasses with a stay the heck away from me vibe. Mr. Drew Rosenhaus.

Rosenhaus has an in for Miami Hurricane players and represents many X Canes in the NFL. He also represents one Mel Kiper Jr.

For the record, I told Mel Cade McCown doesn't have an NFL arm at the game. You could see it on the sideline passes. Mel says McNown is going in round one. I guess we were both right. But McCown busted big time.

IMO Mel's real talent is which teams like who. Like I said the agents and he both use each other for own gains. As for pure football, I don't think he's an X's and O's type, but he does indeed love the game.
