Saw an article but only speculation but it got me thinking. Do we trade a QB for a draft pick and who do we trade? Dobbs or Landry? Drafting Rudolph the QB room is pretty full now. Thoughts?

You don't trade the backup with experience. Until the rookie shows capable.

Not like was mentioned you could get much if anything.

I'm a Vols fan and watched Dobbs at UT. While he was above average as a Vol and ***** Jones didn't help his case any, at all, Dobbs should have never been drafted by us.

We dont keep landry to be 3rd string and inactive every game. I cant believe Rudolf isnt auto upgrade over Landry.

We will certainly try to trade 1 of the 4 when it's time to make cuts to get down to the final 53. We'll take all 4 to camp, just in case there's an injury. Maybe a backup QB will go down with injury and a team will give us a 6th in 2019 for Landry.

.

I believe Dobbs is eligible for the practice squad. Other than that... Dobbs may end up with an injury during training camp that puts him on IR for the year (oh, btw... toward the of preseason would be better). :)

.

Maybe we can try Dobbs in a Slash role to increase the chances of him getting injured in preseason, he looks like IR or the odd man out.

lets see if if mason can pick up the playbook early and light out 3rd stringers, if dobbs has progressed asa passer as we sure know he can run, would be nice to rn some gadget plays with him, odd man odd cut laundry

Personally, I'd still love to trade next year's 7th rounder to the Chargers for Cardale Jones. If we can get a 7th for somebody for Landry Jones, take it, otherwise cut him. Dobbs is worthy of keeping on the practice squad, IMO.

They'll keep Landry, inactivate Rudolph and try to practice squad Dobbs unless someone gets hurt. You can move on from Landry in 2019. Jones has a 1.9m salary and a 2.2m cap hit, his salary is warranted. Obviously if Rudolph is lights out in camp, you could change course on this easily. But if Ben misses 2-3 games I'd much prefer to have Landry in there over 2 completely inexperienced guys.

From Ninersnation.com

How is a player eligible for the practice squad?

In order to be eligible for the practice squad, players must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Have no prior Accrued Seasons in the NFL (An accrued season is six or more games on the active roster);
  • Have one prior Accrued Season in which the player was on the 46-man active roster for no more than 8 games;
  • Each club will be permitted to sign a maximum of 4 Practice Squad players who have earned no more than 2 accrued seasons of free agency credit;
  • If served two seasons on a practice squad, are eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment.
  • A player has served one season on the practice squad if he is on the practice squad for at least 6 games. The rule previously required 3 games on the practice squad roster.

Dobbs was inactive for 14 games this year so he is probably eligible.
Practice squad salary from what I understand is not set in stone so you could offer Dobbs essentially his 2018 salary(500k-ish) to accept the demotion.

Think about it men...

We really need to keep Landry on the roster at least one more year if not two...

This board doesn't give him enough credit...he has shown to be capable of filing in for Ben, and winning football games in the NFL..

That is all you can ask of your back-up QB..and there are alot of teams that would love to have a capable back up of Jones abilities and game experience.

I think he will be upgraded to #2 once they get into training camp.
Maybe it will take a season before he is comfortable enough but that is to be determined by the coaching staff....................

Dobbs will be the odd man out. Jones will be Ben's back-up until Mason learns the O and gets some experience. I'd be hard-pressed to think MR could come in and win a game in Baltimore or Cincinnati, if Ben goes down for a game or two. He would have to be lights out to jump LJ on the depth chart. I don't see a spot for Dobbs and no one is trading for him.

That last part ... If Rudolph shows he's learned the playbook and has the ability and confidence to run the offense, that last part is why you have to at least look and see what you could get for Jones. Not saying you have to get rid of him, but if Rudolph "shows" during camp, you do consider it.

Dobbs will spend a year on practice squad and Landry won't be resigned after 2018. In 2019 the QB's will be Ben, Mason and Dobbs.

QBs drafted in the 4th with mobility and IQ are not going to last long on a PS.

We really need to fake injure Dobbs for IR or he is as good as gone, and thus another wasted pick.

Dint u hear Tomlin in that draft day interview? Steelers are happy they have so much talent at QB but he said one will be left out.

Buh bye Landry!
