This Could be a Tough Draft for Steelers

Mayock had his only mock last night. He had us taking Michel in the 1st round and that was with LVE still on the board.

I hate that we basically have a draft where from about pick 12-15 you essentially have 2nd-3rd round talents through to the end of the 2nd day. All of them have issues or flaws which makes our 1st rounder worth only slightly more than a third rounder.

I think that we're going to see a ton of people drop with a bunch of WTF moments. Guys like Isaiah Oliver could be one of the first corners off the board while I've seen plenty of mocks where Josh Allen is still around when we pick. It's going to be fun but I predict some broken TV screens round the country when the Steelers pick is called in.

Absolute best case for me tonight is a trade down for an extra 2nd rounder by someone with a chubby for a QB.

Not sure if that's new. You usually only get blue chippers in the top half of the 1st round and even some of them bust. No matter who we take at 1-28, they will have flaws and many people bitching and moaning about the pick. Many on here bitched and moaned about Watt being the pick last year. So far, so good for him, though.

Yeap, unless someone falls, the best scenario should be to trade down, yeah I know, the 5th year option but I don't care much about it if we could get one extra player on 3rd round that could help shore up the need for a future RB, S or OLB

I know what you're saying but this year I think the disparity is greater. I think that Watt was a genuine first rounder last year (i.e. the team had a 1st round grade on him). This year there are 15-19 players that teams have a first round grade on. That's not great for teams picking in the late 20's like us.

Plus whoever we pick will be labelled with being a first rounder when they are probably only a 2nd round talent. Similar to 2012 which was a top heavy draft class which tailed off quite steeply though with some depth later on.

Same reason why JJ Watt started at Central Michigan or Big Ben went to Miami OH. Some guys are late bloomers.

Evans is better than LVE today, but if we are only worried about today then why draft at all? Just sign free agents.

As i mentioned earlier, it's like Shazier vs Hightower. Hightower was better as a rookie because Shazier had a lot to learn, but now Hightower can't eat the peanuts out of Shazier's ****.

You also have to consider when watching film of botyh guys, that Evans gets to play behind a DL that keeps him mostly clean to just pursue and make plays. Plays that he misses quite a bit in open field.

LVE played on a ****** defense where he was the main target of any blocker. Evans is not an offense's main concern.

But hey, Evans went to Bama and we know that every single Bama player is great. The steelers must be in on my Bama conspiracy because it's been a very long time sice they drafted somebody from Bama. Deshea Townsend may have been the last.

Or maybe it's because Saban likes BIG defenders to bully college offenses and they aren't always the fastest or most athletic and the Steelers prefer players that are athletic over guys that are just big. And just maybe, when i look at college players through the lens of the steelers, I too look for the more athletic guys that fit what the steelers are trying to do.

You still hate the SEC. Known fact...

a RB in the 1st and a WR in the 2nd would give me tingles!

make it so!
