Roquan Smith, how much would you offer in terms of draft picks to move up for him?

He is small framed and like Jarvis Jones there is a question if he hasn't maxed out his frame.
So you wonder if he will be pushed around in the run game. I think you have to play him off.
I think he is a better athlete than LVE so naturally I would welcome him if he slid to 28, but he won't.
To trade up for him?

He is listed as 14lbs heavier than Deion Jones, with whom he has been compared.
I'd trade a lot for him. Unless i misread the trade value chart, getting to 10 can't, reasonably, be done. If i could give up this year's firat and next years 2nd and 3rd, I'd do it. Id really like to keep the 2nd this year. Might still do it, though.
Hmm. I don't know if I would trade the possibility for several good young players to get one guy that could potentially be good. He could end up being a bust like Jones. He could end up being like LaMarr Woodley and the Steelers not paying him, he walks and goes elsewhere, then does nothing great. It's quite a gamble and right now I'd say no because there are other needs besides at LB.

Yep, I stand corrected. Don't want them to overpay for a guy who is good for several years then gets hurt or tanks.
Polamalu was viewed as a can't miss prospect and they went up and snagged him. Think they view this ILber as a can't miss prospect?
I mean I get his attraction, but that is asking a club who has only did it once. To go against their grain and do it again. And let us be honest. The Steelers need depth. @ OLBer,S,RB,WR,CB, and T.
Just not sure that would be the wise move...

Lots of people consider Roquan as a can't miss prospect. Unlikely to make it out of the top-10 kind of can't miss. There are some issues he had from a shoulder injury which kept him from doing the bench press and there were some rumors of him dropping out of the top-10. He showed up at the Combine a good 10lbs heavier than he played and still put up a 4.51 in the 40.
I couldn't find his pro-day results, but he, apparently, impressed Darth Hoodie. I think he would be a good replacement for Shazier.

Of note the draft chart is nothing like it was since before the rookie scale went into effect. The money is slotted already, whereas before the scale existed the drafted player salaries were much more exorbitant. This impacted how the chart was used back then. With the new rookie scale the chart is watered down because the salaries are slotted for the clubs to already have a generalized idea of pick/round/cost. This why we are seeing more player trades.

One of Bostic or Burnett is going to be better than good on this defense and they both look like good stop gaps. At least 4 maybe 5 QBs go. They dont need Oline or a receiver in the first round. You are virtually eliminating close to 10 unneeded guys. They are getting like the 12-17 BPA at a position they can use. Absolutely no reason to trade up. A good player will fall.
IMO, he and Evans are almost interchangeable. If Evans would run, we'd have a better comparison, and Evans may even help himself. As it is... both are pretty much the same size, played in the same conference and have a similar game.

What Ive seen of Evans always seems to be him stuffing the run or blitzing and tracking QB. What is he like in coverage?

To be 100% honest I am not certain I’d take him straight up at 28. The more I watch him the more I put him in the Jerome Baker range. Don’t get me wrong I like Jerome Baker and Roquan Smith but if Smith is there at 28 and Baker is there at 92 I think I like the value of Baker in the third.
Now Tremaine Edmunds I’d trade up for. But again I actually like Terrell Edmunds in the third as a much better value.

In 2003... when Troy dropped and the Chargers traded out of the #15 spot (I think the thought was that SD would take Troy at #15)... the Steelers traded up from #27 to #16 to get Troy. We gave up our 3rd and 6th round picks to switch spots.
The only way that I see the Steelers doing it this year is if someone drops to at least #15. I might do it for Roquan Smith. I DEFINITELY do it for Tremaine Edmunds!

I'd give up our 1st, a 5th, a 7th, Martavis and a conditional pick next year (2nd or 3rd).

He balled out at UGA and was a huge factor this season.
Even with my UGA glasses on, I wouldn't trade up for him.
The Steelers do need an ILB for sure, but Smith is necessary for the Steelers to trade up for.

to me, their game style is similar. Smith is, obviously, faster and more confident in his speed, but Evans has played all over the LB corps. While Evans may be a bit slower, he's a bit larger, too.
i don't recall Ray Lewis lighting it up when he ran a 40, because he didnt.
40-time doesn't necessarily equate to stardom. look back over the results and see for yourself.
