Tomlin....he's driving a proud organization straight in to the ground.

Dude. Tomlin's success came with Cowher's players! This has been explained so many times. And he has yet to improve so much as one unit on the team from what we had.

Bill's lack of a QB isn't the issue because HE WAS A PERENNIAL SB CONTENDER WITHOUT ONE! Tomlin has a mediocre team with a HOFer.

You will just explain anything away. Tomlin can do no wrong in your eyes.

Name a stretch of seasons where Cowher lost as huge favorites to crappy teams like Tampa Bay, Minnesota, Oakland, San Diego, Miami, Tennessee, etc as Tomlin is doing regularly.

Explained by who?? People on this board. I dont believe in that bullshit. Not for Tomlin. Not for Cowher. Not for Barry Switzer. Not for Seifert. None of them.

Im not saying his lack of a QB is the issue. Why would I when I freaking loved Kordell Stewart. My issue is what i said. Hold them both to the same standard. If Tomlin has not replaced the talent. Then Cowher failed to get a QB from 92 til 2004.

I dont defend Tomlin cause I love him I defend him cause people are full of ****. I didnt blame Cowher when players screwed up either. My standards dont change.

Cowher had back to back losing seasons and he earned a chance to turn it around which he did.

Tomlin has also had back to back losing seasons (save the argument that 8-8 is not a losing season). Now Tomlin has been given the same opportunity to turn it around. He has had every advantage, including what looks to be a pretty easy schedule this year.

If the steelers miss the playoffs this year, then Tomlin has had his chances, and it's time to move on. Or at a minimum, Tomlin has to be completely removed from the player evaluation process, and so does Colbert if he's the one who is really running that show now. Bring in a strong talent evaluator, and make Colbert an administrative assistant again like he was for Cowher.

I was having this conversation yesterday. They play the regular season for one reason and if they don't make the playoffs, they lost. 8-8 records do nothing but screw up your draft position.

8 to 10 years ago you could stock the entire AFC Pro Bowl defense with Steelers. These days, not so much.

Yeah, but what about QB?

Three 1s and a 2 on LB have equaled 0 pro bowls thus far. Remember when guys like Vrabel couldn't crack the lineup?

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Ron Burgundy again.

Take away Ben, Troy, Ike, Keisel, Harrison, Miller, and Greg Warren, ALL Cowher players and do you have out of Tomlin? Jack ****.

You have Bruce Gradkowski who has all of 20 NFL starts and currently on his fifth team.
Shamarko Thomas, 2 NFL Starts in 2 years
Ike...Injured and look at what happened in the TB game.
Harrison, pulled out of retirement becasue his old *** is better than the Steelers depth chart.
Keisel, late sign becasue lets face it, the young bucks suck. 12 years in the NFL and the beard is still feared.
Miller, There is no tight End on the Steelers roster even remotely close to his abilities. Miller's injury last year showed what he means to the team.
Greg Warren, not a big loss, but he's a solid guy in all types of wicked weather.

Exactly. Tombert has proven they can draft pretty good WR's and RB's, every other position not so much. Again, ZERO players left from the 2008 and 2009 drafts.

You don't need any of us to explain it. Use your eyes and brain. Tomlin won the SB two years post-Cowher. 20 of his 22 starters were Cowher's; you must feel Darnell Stapleton was a key cog in our SB win. As the years have gone on and Cowher's guys have aged and retired/left, every single position on the depth chart is in worse shape than it was before. Go on, name one area of the depth chart that has improved since 2007. RB, I'll give you. What else? Cowher drafted multiple HOFers and was DOMINANT along the lines, dominant pass rush, dominant LB play, franchise QB. Tomlin has added none of those things and all of them are way, way worse than they were before he got here.

But he contended ANYWAY! He built two SB-caliber rosters! Tomlin has yet to build ONE.

I know, because coaching has no impact on play. That doesn't make sense, but I get your point. The coaches aren't accountable for anything.

Problem is, he's also horrendous at in-game coaching, so what duties would he be left with?

Like I said elsewhere, either Tomlin's influence on the draft is not good or Colbert became retarded overnight one day in 2007.

i agree 8-8 is the same as a losing season

I'm not some hothead who just wants a coach fired after a bad year. Every coach, every team will have a bad year from time to time. You get a few key injuries, etc. and it's a bad year.

What is disturbing about the last few years is the losses to bad teams. That should be a fluke occurance like maybe the bad team got a punt return TD and recovered an onside kick, and got a TD on a deflected ball, etc.

how do you lose to the Raiders with Terrell Pryor who is running like an 8 play Tecmo Bowl offense?

How do you play Tampa, with a terrible OL and an immobile pocket QB and you can't get any pressure on him?

Why do you keep doing stupid **** that doesn't work?

Why do you play for FGs? Why is your entire third-down offense based on field position for the upcoming punt despite having a HOF QB?

Why can't you cobble together even decent special teams units?

Why is your team a mess of penalties and turnovers every game, every year?

I'm not throwing Tomlin anywhere. I'm pointing out that Cowher and Tomlin coached under totally different circumstances, different NFL models and different GM models. There is NO comparison. Tomlin is more like Switzer than Cowher. Tomlin has NEVER had to draft a QB. NEVER been successful rebuilding a team. NEVER had fiscal restrains so that he loses players via FA. NEVER won a SB with his players. Switzer has a better playoff record and regular season record than Tomlin. You want him to coach the Steelers? He's won a SB.

When Tomlin shows he can draft and rebuild a team then I'll say he is like Cowher. Until then he just inherited a good team and should be compared with Barry Switzer.

Switzer had a pretty damn good record both college and pro. He got fired from both more because of his personal problems than his coaching skills. And wasn't that the Cowboy's last SB win?

Switzer was a nobody Obx. Lets just forget his long career at Oklahoma fielding a championship team every year.

Yepppppppppppppppp

2007 7th in penalties 4.6 per game
2008 21st 6.1 per game won superbowl
2009 10th 5.3 per game
2010 23rd 6.3 per game loss super bowl
2011 17th 6.3 per game
2012 6th 5.8 per game
2013 5th 5.0 per game
2014 4 games in 31st 11.0 per game

So we were 7th when he started, then fell to an average of 15th and now sit at 31st?

I'm sure there's a point in there, just a stupid one.

More hyperbole as usual. Clearly besides this year teams we arent a mess of penalties. But carry on..

Clearly. He's had so many NFL opportunities since.

You are a guy I couldn't even make up.

Yeah cause he wasnt old as hell at that time he was a young guy in the prime of his coaching career and didnt recieve another offer right?

this thread reminds me of that other thread

It reminds me of the Bucco arguments between me and Todd from a few years back.
BTW, I did send a donation to the American Cancer Society in the value of one case of beer since I lost my bet that the Pirates would never be in the playoffs as long as Nutting owned them. /OT

did you include estimated cost of shipping and handling in your donation?
