Gheez, you really are defining stupidity. He was drafted in the fourth. We swapped picks with another team and moved up several picks in the fourth. That pick IN THE FOURTH, was near the end of the FOURTH. KC also included a 6th rounder as Pitt had 2 5th rounders that year.
So in your imaginary land your punter in the 5th with less production in college was drafted roughly 30 spots later than Sepulveda who had a decent career until his injuries ended it. Forget the fact this punter you speak so highly of hasn’t played one snap in the NFL. Come to think of it , I think you pulled your own diagnosis right out of the DSM-V. Good job!

Punters are not hard to scout. Since there is very little difference between punting in college and the NFL, the Steelers could upgrade the position, and save $1,337,000 in cap space.

Steelers have a lot of roster spots to fill at the moment. They just released 3 DB's that contributed last year. The odds are way against them
taking a QB or Punter in the draft. They might have to take as many as 3 DB's with their 7 picks and currently Heyward Bey is their #4 receiver.

2 NT Tim Settle, a wide-bodied NT who has the size, strength and girth to command a double team, would bring some shades of Casey back
3 ILB Joswell, good vs the run and say we sign a decent tier 2 ilb like Preston brown and add Timmons for depth, then if Shazier cant come back then joswell can be the long-term starter
5 A S Whitehead depth
5 B OT Gates need depth and he played both sides, better suited for RT early, can also play OG.

I'm still waiting for Harrison to run a 40 yard dash. For all we know he could be a 4.65 40 type of guy and if that is the case, I don't want him in round one.
You can say the same for Evans, who worked out a bit at Alabama's pro day, with just okay results.

Every time I see a mock where we take a QB, it baffles me. What is the rationale behind a QB ANYWHERE in this draft?
We have Big Ben for at least 2-3 more years. Landry isn't going anywhere. We JUST drafted Dobbs. We are NOT going to carry 4 QBs, so if we draft a QB, who gets cut? It just makes NO SENSE to draft a QB unless it is a can't miss franchise QB.

Let's see who they bring in to camp first. Berry is a bottom of the barrel type of punter and paid 3x more than what a rookie contract for a punter would be. There are better punters in the draft.
The bet I will take, and you will run from is the Texas punter ( Dickson ) in the draft will have a higher average in the NFL in 2018. You likely agree, so why not upgrade and save cap space? That's all I'm saying, Cope.

We're not going to take the texas punter, because we already have a good punter. You're inability to recognize what Berry does well, is a strength for our team, and is the reason why we will not draft a punter.

I think he's off the board in rounds 4-6. I also think he's worth the one of the Steelers 5th round picks. Dickson would upgrade the position AND save us money on the cap. Will the Steelers draft him? The odds are against it as there are 31 other teams.
The bet I will offer you is the Texas punter ( Dickson ) will have a higher average in the NFL in 2018, and a cheaper cap number in comparison to Berry. Rules, a major injury and the bet is void.

As for the bet you would offer. Idiotic and purely subjective. A higher average of what? Distance? Touch backs? Inside 20s? You can’t even use that data anyway because it is dictated by field position. Cope has already explained this so a third grader could understand the concept.
I will ask you this. What is the cap figure for a 4th or 5th rounder this year? A 4th rounder at Pitt’s slot is approximately a $3.1 on a 4 year contract. 5th is $2.7. Berry is $1.9 this year. So, we are only talking about $1.2 difference this year on an unproven rookie instead of a proven veteran. This does t taken into account of Berry signs a multi year extension. At which time his base salary would decrease to $680k.

A mock draft is a guess as to who you would take in a round, and if you're honest, you pick a player that has a chance to be there. I never said I'm 100% sure Steelers would take him in round five. I said I project him to be taken in rounds 4-6. I would bet he's picked before round 7 if you want to shake on it... you won't.
I did say higher average, meaning a higher average of yards per punt.
Also, stop with the lousy math Ike. Berry is 1.9 Million this year, a rookie using your numbers of 3.1 Million on a four-year deal would average .775 million a year. A cap savings of $1.125 million in 2018.
If you want to projects costs of each player for four years on the cap using your numbers.:
Berry = 7.6 million over the next four years, assuming his cap value stays the same.
A 5th round punter would = 3.1 million over four years.
A CAP SAVINGS OF 4.5 million and like I said I believe Dickson will be a better NFL punter.

As mentioned, average yards per punt is a subjective stat because of the punt situation. Cope has given you so much material on this even YOU could write a book on it.
Hey genius I looked at the same site (overthecap) you did on the rookie salaries. As usual your reading comprehension needs work. Look in the mirror at the lousy math peacock. Berry wouldn’t receive a contract of 4 years at the $1.9 number....Well he would if you were the GM. He would receive a contract with the minimum vet salary plus the proration of any signing bonus, which I wouldn’t guess would be more than $2.5 or $3 million.
