RD1- Mason Rudolph QB Ok St.
I’m going to believe the smoke as fire. I think if an elite S or ILB fell they’d jump on it BUT I don’t see guys like Tremaine Edmunds, Roquan Smith, LVE, Derwin James or Fitzpatrick still being on the board. Steelers also have a 36 year old QB under contract for only two more seasons and scrubs like Kirk Cousins just got 30 million a year guaranteed. Rudolph could sit two years before starting and then the Steelers would have two more years plus the 5th year option. I’m not saying this will happen but if positions of need are off the board at value for #28 I honestly do believe trading down or going Rudolph are serious options this year. The other option is if the Giants or Colts don’t go QB in the first round to try to sneak back into the latter part to snag Rudolph.
Rudolph is big, strong, nimble feet, enough arm, above average accuracy, understands check downs. Probably needs help playing under center but if the plan is to sit him like the packers did with Rodgers that should not be a problem.
RD2- Terrell Edmunds rover VT
I think the Steelers are interested in both Edmunds brothers I just don’t see Tremaine being around when #28 comes. But with the signing of Bostic and Burnett the elder Edmunds makes sense. If you look at his measurables he is off the charts. And when he played rover at VT he was phenomenal. I feel Burnett will be a rover ILB/S with Bostic being our 3 down ILB and VW coming off the field on passing downs.
RD3- Ian Thomas TE Indiana
Again his measurables are outstanding. I was confused when I looked him up in mockdraftable.com but they had lots of his measurements wrong. He has 11 1/2 hands which is 99 percentile, 34” arms which is 84th percentile. Watching his tape he definitely needs help route running but he can one hand a football better than OBJ. He has the speed needed to work the seems. Has to be more aggressive in blocking.
RD5a- Kalen Ballage RB Arizona St.
Everyone who wasn’t pissed is now throwing empty iron city beer cans at the television. But watch Ballage and then look at his measurables. He and LB are very comparable with Ballage getting the nod in athleticism. Watching Ballage and his patience and upright running style also reminds me of LB. watching him break arm tackles and fall forward also looks like Bell. Both have good hands. Steelers have to consider the very real possibility that Bell is gone after 2018. This gives them two cheaper options if he is in Ballage and Connor.
RD5b- Jerome Baker LB OSU
It was a toss up between Genard Avery and Baker. Steelers have met with Baker so keeping with my theme as so far every player I’ve drafted the Steelers have either interviewed or shown plenty of interest in via whom goes to their pro day. Baker is under sized with short arms but he can fly. If he can earn his keep on special teams maybe he knocks Fort off the 53 man.
RD7a- Jamiyus Pittman NT UCF
Pittman is the true nose guard the Steelers are missing in the rotation. Hargrove has done well but there’s no one behind him with sand in their pants to hold down the interior. Pittman is a high motor with heavy hands whom uses his leverage to beat his man. Probably not starter material but definitely rotation guy.
RD7b- Richie James WR/PR Middle Tennessee St
James was electric his Sophomore year amassing 105 catches for 1,625 yards 15.5 average, and 12 trips to the end zone. Got injured his Junior campaign and instead of staying in school left early. Has returned punts before and in order to get a hat game day will have to show the ability in camp.
