Steelers sign Jon Bostic 2 year deal

liability in coverage? The Colts were not the Eagles or Patriots, so hopefully he shines on a better team.

I think he is instinct and athletic capable. Just very few players will be a Shazier type cover LBer. Not even guaranteed to find that in the draft....

you have two bags of gold and one bag of fake gold.

You have a penny operated weight scale, and only one penny.

Fake gold weighs.1.5 pounds per coin. Real gold weighs 1 pound per coin.

How do you find out which of the three bags has the fake gold coins?

Put all 3 on scale. Insert penny. Remove bag 1, check weight. Remove bag 2, check weight. If weight drop is greater when removing either bag, then the bag resulting in lower weight drop is fake gold. If weight decline even for both bag removals, then fake gold is still on the scale.

What do I win?

I would in not worry if he can get the job done but will he stay healthy. Solid pick up IMO who could fill in and an immediate upgrade over Spence and Tyler. He also was the play caller for the Colts and can step in and do the same for us. The problem when when we lost Shazier outside of his play making was him calling the plays and getting guys into position. We lost our QB on defense.

remember he was a solid thumper coming out of Florida, will be a 2 down ILB unlikely to be in nickel or dime for coverage would be replaced by Fort or rookie (Eshe or Evans).

scale will only register one weight check, it won't recheck with removal of bags...

once you put a penny in it weighs whats on it once and thats it

sorry no cigar

If they pick a ILB high that will make 4. Do they carry 4? Part I never understand is there is clearly an opening at ILB. A guy like Chickillo doesnt have a good chance to start next year. You have an entire off season to shape your body to the position and learn all the nessesary assignments. Why wouldnt he?

Didn't the carry 4 last year?

Shazier
Dirty Red
Vince
Fort

I think the question is would they carry 5

Vince
Jon
Fort
Dirty Red
rookie

and I think the answer is LJ would be leaving the

Fort

Here is Depot's write-up on him....

Not spectacular, but a decent signing. Bostic is already an upgrade at our ILB postion. Colbert did something and we all should like that.

Boston will play depending on if rookie picks up the system or not. Let's hope rookie can play well. With Bostic it looks like we might only be a shade better than with Spence.

He was more of a thumper in college but decent enough in coverage . This doesn’t stop the need to draft an ILB early but this does give the Steelers the option of not starting a rookie opening day.

AND if that rookie is better than they better damned well start him....................Kapish!!!

Salute the nation

Was drafted by Chicago a couple years ago in the 2nd round. Look like a stud and hits like a truck. Looked like a superstar in the making IMO but not sure what happened?

I remember him in college now.
Eh decent pick up

would Shazier being placed on the Reserved/Injured List impact the number at that position? We all know he's not playing this season, and likely never again even if we hope he does, due to what Colbert said previously.

Sure to a degree. With their approach they went with a bargain stop gap and obviously will draft a ILBer within three rounds of the draft. So it takes two bodies to replace him. Now will the Steelers ultimately keep say a 5th ILBer on the roster? I think it always comes down to special teams. If Slater gets signed I say no. But if no special teamer is signed. There is a outside chance one extra Ilber gets kept sure. But ultimately you have to look at S with the same scenerio. And losing two bodies there, my money is on that position to get that extra deciding body. Again if Slater isn't signed..

Looks like he had a decent bounce back season last year. Solid signing and an upgrade over what we have, and we now won't have to reach for an ILB at 28 and bypass a higher rated safety.

no he was one of the bright spots for the Colts, he is starter capable. I would say even a slight upgrade over Vince Williams.

His bugaboo is mostly if he can stay healthy. If he does he can hold that spot down just fine. But that is a big IF.

I'm going to pull a Coach (tongue in cheek) and point out that I said in the earlier "Predictions" page that the Steelers would add two ILBs ... one through FA and one through the draft .... AND that one would obviously be a Shazier replacement and the other would quietly be Williams' replacement (Bostic) ... They're halfway there ... lol

I remember him being a good prospect in his draft. We got him as a cheap FA due to injuries, that's a good signing there. It's not like he's a Senquez Golson that hasn't even proven he can play due to injuries.

For what I've read he's a sure tackler and we needed that badly, probably even more than coverage

He is a solid tackler doesn't miss much. Colts were changing to a 4/3 as well. So schematically perhaps that is an additional reason they didn't fight to resign.

Here we go again Tomlin at his best.

Tomlin, Tomlin, Tomlin ... lol
You do realize that no FA gets signed without this little fella called Colbert (i.e. the GM) giving the signing the OK. For all you or I know, Colbert may have asked Tomlin what he needed out of FA, Tomlin told him an ILB and Colbert brought him Bostic. Personally, I don't think it works that way. I'd imagine it's both of them agreeing on a FA and in some cases ARII giving the OK.
But, yeah .. Tomlin ... lol
