The wait is over...

The Pittsburgh Steelers have finally made a move in free agency, and have done so at a crucial position. The team has reportedly signed former Colts linebacker Jon Bostic to a 2-year contract.

This from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport:

For those who don’t know, Bostic is a 26-year old linebacker who last played for the Indianapolis Colts, but has also played for the Patriots and Bears. He is coming off his best statistical season by totaling 97 total tackles and a sack for the hapless Colts last year.

If you are looking at this statistics, you may notice the 2016 season is missing. After being traded to the Detroit Lions, he was placed on injured reserve with a foot injury and missed the entire season before being traded to the Colts prior to 2017.

Bostic is an inside linebacker by trade, and is a huge need for the Steelers in the absence of Ryan Shazier. As expected, the team adding a free agent linebacker would be in the cards, but don’t think the team won’t also address this need in the upcoming NFL Draft.

What this signing likely means is the reunion with Lawrence Timmons probably isn’t happening. Nonetheless, the Steelers liked Bostic’s game enough to sign him to a two-year deal. Stay tuned to BTSC for the latest on contract details, and more!

Was drafted by Chicago a couple years ago in the 2nd round. Look like a stud and hits like a truck. Looked like a superstar in the making IMO but not sure what happened?

He was more of a thumper in college but decent enough in coverage . This doesn’t stop the need to draft an ILB early but this does give the Steelers the option of not starting a rookie opening day.

He has a sorted injury past .So that is his risk. He had a career best in tackles and called the plays for Colts also showing zone coverage capable. I think he can man Shaziers spot and not be a Spence type liability. A solid signing IMO but doesn't stop the Steelers from drafting a ILBer in 1 or 2. Will he hold up a whole season? Who knows, but should get that rookie Ilber some time to ease into playing time.

A former second round pick of the Bears, they thought so much of him after two season they traded Bostic to Patriots for 2016 6th round pick.

New England had little use for him. Not much but a solid back up type, and a bit injury prone.

Better than Spence or Dirty Red...maybe a bit.

Works for me. Sounds like the kid has it. Don't know why he isn't more popular than he is?

no he was one of the bright spots for the Colts, he is starter capable. I would say even a slight upgrade over Vince Williams.

His bugaboo is mostly if he can stay healthy. If he does he can hold that spot down just fine. But that is a big IF.

He ended the season on IR with a knee injury. Anyone know tje extent. At least it gives them an option allowing tgem to pick a BPA at ilb or S

I didn't see any off season surgeries. So I am thinking it was just a end of the year type that wasn't overly serious.

Just curious as to what makes you feel he is just a solid back up? Have you watched tape on him? IMO he is starter material if he can stay healthy. He’s no Shazier in coverage but not many are.

97 tackles for colts last year. Colts play 4-3.

Is this Colberts new Farrior type pick up?

No as Farrior was a lot more proven and healthier.

I think this is more of a stop gap. But with last season being his best, that is at least encouraging for a short term play.

He saw numerous articles on him and based on their opinion formed a coach opinion.

I think if you look at it he wasn't his best earlier but I think that was him getting comfy within his new scheme/team. Then as the year went on his play improved.

I would expect the same type of early growing pains, and then his play would improve.

Which isn't uncommon for the Steelers out of the gates. To start off slow and then pick up speed.

OK, it's something for depth and he may be the day 1 starter depending on who they draft. With 97 tackles, he has to be better than everyone other than VW.

They are also getting him early enough that he can learn the playbook and be there for all practices during the offseason.

Typical Steeler signing and that's not a bad thing. Potential and price tag play significant factors in this signing. They are trying to put 10 lbs of gold into a 5 lbs bag. Expect more of these signings.

liability in coverage? The Colts were not the Eagles or Patriots, so hopefully he shines on a better team.

you have two bags of gold and one bag of fake gold.

You have a penny operated weight scale, and only one penny.

Fake gold weighs.1.5 pounds per coin. Real gold weighs 1 pound per coin.

How do you find out which of the three bags has the fake gold coins?
