Steelers Franchise Tag Bell

I think they can allow him to seek trades if they do the non-exclusive tag. I think the exclusive tag means he doesn't go anywhere. I could be wrong on that but that's what I've been reading.

As much as I want him on the team, tagging him hurts the team more than it helps.

A long term deal would not have been in the team's best interest. Bell's not your typical RB, but can we really expect him to play at a high level for 3-4 more years with the work load he's received the last few years? I believe history has not reflected well on backs performing well after consecutive 300-400 touch seasons. The drop off is significant.

Steelers just need to put their best offer on the table, if he doesn't take it by 4PM, then have the non-exclusive tag on him and
let him see if he can get what he wants from another team. It would most likely be a team in the second half of the draft,
but someone like Raiders or Skins might go for it.

Yes he is grateful the Steelers stood behind him in all his woa's. Let him go the game continues to much young talent out there.

Its likely his last season as a Steeler. I would look for the team to draft another RB during the draft as insurance.

Bell apparently wants the Tag price for every season at a minimum. $14.5 mill per year. Great athlete but I would give him permission to seek a trade.

Bell also told Fowler that the contract he turned down last season was in fact 3 years guaranteed of 42 million.

Did he retire yet? Until then, sign the tag and get ready for camp. $14.5M reasons to be there.

Tag him and let his agent see if he can work out a trade. Use the $$$ saved to pick up a S, ILB or OLB in FA. Use the first round pick (and other picks) you get for Bell, along with our own draft picks to restock the defense and find the heir apparent to Bryant. Everybody is happy.

THis is what I have been advocating for the whole time. Look, Bell is the best all around RB in the league.
No question IMO. His blocking is fantastic and his receiving capabilities are very good. He is not a #2 WR like he suggests, but whatever.

The problem is that his # has just gotten to be TOO expensive. He is not looking for market value.
He is not looking for above market value. He is looking to set the market at a rate well above the current value.
At 26 along with the injuries he has accrued, I'm just not giving him that much.
Honestly, I'm not sure I would have given him the 13.3 they offered last year.
You can produce 80% of his abilities with a rd 2-3 RB. Again, this doesn't underscore his capabilities.
He is THE best RB in the game. I just think our funds would be better used elsewhere.
Get a starting FS and ILB in FA. Then draft BPA and ensure you get a good RB before rd 3 is over.

This is what I don't understand. If they couldn't agree up to this point, why on earth would they agree weeks/months after the tag is applied.
Bell says he still believes it can get done after the FT is applied. Doesn't make any sense as to why the best offer hasn't already been given.
You either take it or not.

No way in hell are they going to give him 14.5 per, so long greedy ****. That would have to be a 5 year contract to spread the bonus out, so that's 72.5 million, hahaha. ABs contract is a total of 68 million with only 19 fully guaranteed.
Bell turned down 42 guaranteed??? Where is everyone at that was trying to defend him and his asking price? Hell Ben's fully guaranteed money off his last deal was 34.5

Nobody would even play the dude more than 9 million...he's being a dick.

Colbert should have left him walk. He's going to be a sulky dude. I agree his market value is below 14.5 million.

What tag did the Steelers use?

Someone here has suggest that nauseam.

I agree with you 100% or if you prefer, you agree with what I have been saying for a while. Either way trade him!

They should make out great with comp picks with teams overpaying for Bell & Bryant next year. I can see them going RB & WR in this years draft but neither at a high pick. They can worry about those positions next year if need be.

Bell doesn’t understand some or all of the following:

The amount of leverage he has in the current negotiation.
The absence of upside in being spiteful or uncooperative in the negotiation.
The odds that he will benefit financially by waiting for the increased leverage that will come after he loses the franchise tag.

I bet he has frustrated the hell out of his agent.

Clearly if he wants that kind of money, then he can't value winning since the contract will hamstring the organization's ability to win. So I def think he should go to one of these cash strapped losers and be happy

First of all it is ad nauseam.

Second, why couldn't you just agree 100% with SB and let it at that? Why would he prefer to agree with you? Is your ego that damn fragile?

I really don't care, but is it that important to you?

Im still here nothing you will say wont convince me that when i watch the games that if Ben is worth 23 million next year and brown is worth 17 million that Bell isnt worth 15. I dont want to hear about what other backs are making or WRs or QBs. Watching the Steelers Football games he is worth just as much as Ben or Brown.

Unfortunately we've won two Super Bowls with an undrafted Free Agent. You really think Bell is worth anything near a franchise QB?

Yes when i watch games i dont see some huge difference in importance and at 15 he still is 8 million behind.. you sitting here telling me kirk Cousins is a better football player then Bell. The Vikings are prepared to offer 3 years 91 million all guaranteed.

And yeah that undrafted free agent sucked. Smh

It doesn't matter what Bell thinks he's worth or what some other team might pay him or how much we want him to be on the team. What it is about are the STEELERS. The team, not the individual. With Shazier's injury and cap hit, we just can not afford to pay Bell 15+ million per year. We have other needs and we CAN win without Bell. We can not win without Ben. I really hope if they tag Bell, that they allow him to seek a trade because that tag almost guarantees we don't win it all this year as we will not be able to add any FA's to help improve our biggest weakness, the D.

Unfortunately it's the position market.
By the way, Ben's last contract he got 34.5 million guaranteed. ABs contract gives him 19 million guaranteed. You're going to seriously sit there and tell me the offer he turned down that was 42 million guaranteed wasn't fair???? That's 8 million more than Ben, and 20+ million more Tha AB

Fair to whom you or me?? Apparently not to Bell. See you are only looking at as what the Steelers will give him. He is looking at it as what i can get from everyone. Same way you would if you were in his shoes. Like i just said kirk Cousins may get 91 million guaranteed. You dont think that plays a factor in a player like Bell's mind. Cousins is not a better football player then Bell. I know it you know it and so does he. So its not just about what the steelers will offer.. and if Bell wants to take it upon himself to abolish the going market for RBs thats his prerogative.

Bell's a damn idiot then, because it goes by a players market value and position has alot to do with that. Any player can demand what he wants, it doesn't mean he's worth that.
