IIRC the rates it is based on still has some effect of the big Peterson contract left in it. The reason this year's tag for Bell is so high is because, for the second time you tag, them, it has to be 120% (or something like that) of the prior tag you used.

If this was his first franchise tag, it would be lower.

I can't see spending huge money on Bell when he's only played every game in one season out of five and they're going to lose in the playoffs anyway because their defense sucks.

Bell will get hurt again, miss 6-8 games and finish the season on IR again.

Bell is good but 2 good RB's can be found for half of Bell's demands...leaving us with cash for the defense.
