Burns has been getting a lot of negativity and I thought he had a pretty good year.
I was curious about what WR's did against us in our 4 losses.

Bears 1 catch 9 yards
Jags 1st 6 catches 78 yards
NE 8 catches 94 yards
Jags #2 6 catches 93 yards

In todays NFL if you hold the other teams WR's under 100 yards you have had an excellent game.
We did not give up 100 yards in any of our losses, so I wouldn't consider our CB's to be the problem.

Teams are beating the Steelers by running the ball and throwing short to RB's and TE's and getting
yards after the catch.

Especially with the depth of young db's on the roster with plenty of upside ie Hilton, Burns, Sutton, Allen.... there's plenty to like and the cupboard is certainly not bare. I'd list Sean Davis here too, I think he can settle into being an above the line safety for years to come. Just need to find someone decent to pair him with. And bringing in Haden was a stroke of luck/genius, may need to rework his contract a little but he adds so much to this group.

Yep LBs and safeties. I think at least 4 of our draft picks should be LBs and S's and we should be hitting the FA market too

our defense was doing pretty decent until Shazier went down.

I think the Steelers have miscalculated a bit on the NT. Much easier to get a 3 and out when its 3rd and ten rather than 3rd and 3.
I'd like the Steelers to go after Justin Ellis of the Raiders, he won't get you any sacks but seems to be coming into his own in stuffing the run.

butler should have allowed Haden to play press on LEE, those 3rd down conversions Haden was about 5 off if he was Press he would have had shots to break those quick slants that they kept those long drives going.

In case you haven't been up to speed, we're blaming Tomlin.

It appears Butler is coaching and installing a game plan and then during games Tomlin just takes over and calls whatever bullshit he "feels".

This is HIS clown-****.

I agree the CBs are not to blame for the pathetic pass rush by the overrated stiffs in the front 7

AGAIN,........Butler OR Tomlin????? You are right in the diagnosis of the play / alignment and how it should have been solved but the credit / blame is hard to say ownership of.

Yes SIR, great write up and detective work on the stat(s). I didn't realize that we never gave up 100yards to WR in our losses. That soft zone is what is killing us as it just doesn't work. That and add in the SHITy 2DL formation, that's like a VICTORY formation for the other team.......

For the team who was #1 in sacks/pass play. ******* bums.

We didn't give up 100 yards because Chicago and Jax ran down our throats, no need to throw a ton.

Burns is man corner and does well in man, struggled a bit in zone.

We lead the league in sacks, but didn't touch Bortles.

I think part of Davis' problem is Mitchell. Mitchell isn't that good, plus he is such a wild card that I think Davis gets caught trying to do too much in an effort to cover for Mitchell. He sees Mitchell out of position not where he is supposed to be and gets caught in between where he is supposed to be and where Mitchell is supposed to be. I think if you upgrade Mitchell, Davis' play will improve. Perhaps vastly improve.

Most didn't blame the corners. I BLAME bone headed coaching from the defense run by Tomlin who didn't commit more to stop the run, and used 2DL men only on goal line situations.

I bet the run defense and pressures / sacks would have been better if we played Harrison more during the season and didn't cut him.

Bortles appears to be the type of QB that is good enough to win with in the regular season IF you have a powerhouse running game and a very good defense. But he's not going to give you many 4th quarter comebacks or score in crunch time when needed.

Do the Jags keep him?

The sack numbers were good, but can any of us honestly say we have a dominant pass rusher? Like Harrison used to be or Woodley from 08-11, or Lloyd, Greene? We don't have that one guy that teams have to worry about.
Williams had what, 8 sacks? That will not happen without Shazier. Watt is probably our best pure pass rusher, but he only rushed the QB 25% of his snaps, he dropped into coverage way to much.
Heyward and Tuitt are both very good, but even they need that outside pass rusher to force QBs to step up into the pocket and right into their pass rush. See that last possession by Jax at NE, this guy who wore #92, he looks familiar, was getting a good rush forcing Bortles so step up into the big uglies.

With so much emphasis on the passing game, defenses using so many sub packages. I may look for another big Dlinemen that can get pressure up the middle on passing downs.
Use Heyward, Tuitt, Hargrave, rookie DT, AluAlu, Walton has a 4 man front and rotate them, or at least 3 of them in at all times and actually let your best pass rusher(Watt) rush the damn QB more.

I like this, but neither Hargrave or Alualu are pass rushers on 3rd down. We need to find a good NT/DT who can get the inside push and stay on the field.

Hargrave isn't very good vs the run, and hardly played. Its tough to play nickel when you have a soft middle. Once Shazier went out, Williams became more of a liability.

Hargrave I think can be that guy, he was pretty good before he started dealing with a back injury, and this was only year 2. I just want guys that can push the middle of the pocket. If we actually let Watt rush more, then you can use 3 DLinemen, but the problem you run into with just rushing 4 guys and rarely blitzing is, look late in the NE game, NE started keeping an extra TE in to block, so with the 5 OL and extra TE they had 6 blockers vs 4 pass rusher, so they doubled Jax top two pass rushers and they stopped getting pressure.

When we do that stupid 2DL crap and send a LB, offenses either:
A. double our two DL and single up on our LB.
B. They keep a TE or RB into block and now all 3 of our pass rushers are doubled and the ****** QBs like Hundley, Kizer, Brissett, Bortles have all day to wait for someone to get open and end up with huge running lanes

Yes sir. Can you please tell that to Tomlin. He doesn't seem to have a clue.

This team is and has been light in the *** up front for some time now. No toughness at all.
