Possible Government Shutdown

Dems are just hanging a big sign around their necks, saying: “We shut down the government! We love illegals more than US Citizens!”

I am not quick to condemn him either way. He is quite the negotiator and seems to have a 'Trump' card ready to throw at the most opportune times.

Nope. DACA has to go. It is illegal and there is no justification for it.

Who are they?

I demand names - they need 60 votes in the Senate

From FOXNews:

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2018/01/19/government-shutdown-looms-as-democrats-stand-firm-on-daca-demands.html

Complicating matters for McConnell, R-Ky., is that he will not even have all 51 votes from Republicans. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., is convalescing after surgery, while Sens. Jeff Flake, R-Ariz., Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. have all indicated that they will not vote for the measure, meaning that McConnell will need to win 13 Democrats to get to 60. So far, only Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., is the only Democrat who has indicated that he will vote for the resolution.

They want to make this a war over lettuce pickers kids over taxpaying Americans?

No IRS refunds this year! - tell the people that ....and who voted for it

Trump should issue an executive order officially declaring Congress to be Fucktards.

Senate in disarray with shutdown hours away

The chamber couldn't agree on scheduling a vote, let alone passing legislation to keep the government open.

No vote is scheduled, and the two party leaders spent the night sniping over who's to blame for the impasse. Democrats are demanding protections for hundreds of thousands of young immigrants facing deportation, and Republicans are insisting that government funding not be tied to immigration.

Senate Democrats have lined up in opposition to the spending bill approved by the House, putting the government on course for a shutdown.

The democrats are committing suicide for the midterms. Against the tax plan and now they're shutting down the government. Brilliant strategy!

I don't know why they just don't make the dems go on the record with a filibuster. Then let everyone know that nothing will happen until they let it come to a vote.

I think the Democrats have let the far left Libs make way too many decisions for their Party....that's what I think

The military will be working without getting paid and the Dems dont care.

CNN poll: DACA not worth a shutdown, except to Democrats

Washington (CNN)With hours to go before a midnight deadline for Congress to fund the government or shut it down, most Americans say avoiding a shutdown is more important than passing a bill to maintain the program allowing people brought to the US illegally as children to stay

Which is more important...avoiding a shutdown or continuing DACA?

A majority of Americans says it supports keeping the government open over finding a solution for the DACA program.

56%-34%

That's complete BS and you know it. I was a 6F0X1 during my 20 years active and a civilian Air Force Budget Officer now. We never missed a payroll in the previous shutdowns and reprogrammed funding into the Mil Payroll from 3080 and 3010 funding pots to cover previous closures. This will be a short at most 2-3 week shutdown if any and the AF will move available uncommitted dollars to source the payroll delta. Stop with the drama dude.

BOOM!

Here's your drama

The government has officially shut down

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/1/20/16910722/government-shutdown-2018-shut-down

------------------------------------

The government just shut down. What happens next?

Military

The military is considered essential and will still report for duty. However, the troops -- including those in combat -- will potentially not be paid during a shutdown.

If the shutdown goes on for weeks, about 1.3 million active-duty military will be expected to work potentially without pay. The military is currently paid through February 1.

In addition, many civilian Department of Defense employees will not be working during the shutdown, including instructors at military academies and maintenance contractors.

Furloughs

Thousands of federal employees will be placed on furlough -- meaning they won't report to work Monday. Whoever works for agencies and departments that are considered nonessential, including agencies that pay out small business loans and process passport requests, will cease to work effective immediately until Congress is able to agree on a bill for the federal budget.

The employees in these departments would be placed on "furlough."

I have been furloughed . Have to report to work Monday to sign some paperwork, then it's off to North Carolina until they get this sorted out.

I am not sure this is true. I will admit to being new to understanding all the different appropriations, but isn't 3080 and 3010 funds already set aside for aircraft procurement and as such, cannot simply be diverted without approval of SecDef or some appropriations committee? Like I said, I am not 100% sure but I don't think the Air Force can just redirect funds on a whim, can they? And reappropriating certainly takes time. It isn't instant.

The funds are not “recolored” that would be illegal. The uncommitted AUTHORIZED CRA funds are moved to the payroll accounts. Think of it as moving money between different checking accounts.

Didn't know they could do that.

Oh, come on, Up-Chuck is looking out for the little guy, the downtrodden, since they are his biggest donors.

Maybe not ...

So do the pos congressmen/women still get paid for not doing their ******* jobs?

I just saw Chuckie on TV. He looked like hell. Maybe we could change the name of the shut down from Schumer's shut down to Trump's triumph.

Yep. "Here's the background: The government shutdown only affects agencies and employees that are funded through annual appropriations. But that doesn't apply to members of Congress. Salaries for members of the House and Senate are written into permanent law. (Members in both chambers currently make $174,000 a year.) That's why politicians get paid even in the event that Congress can't agree on a bill to fund the government.

It's a different story for congressional staffers. Individual members and committee chairs will decide which staffers are "essential" and need to stay on during the shutdown (with retroactive pay) and which staffers get sent home. The latter might get back pay later on, but that's up to Congress.

There's another twist, though. The current Congress can't actually stop itself from getting paid. That's because the 27th Amendment specifically says that the salaries of the House and Senate can't be altered until the start of a new term. The idea was to prevent members of Congress from handing themselves a raise before an election took place."

Back in '94 when the Dems shut down the govt, Bill Clinton simply borrowed several billion from the govt employee union's pension fund. I don't see why they wouldn't do the same for Trump.
