I know you guys are following this. This whole thing is horseshit. DACA seems to be a major sticking point, and I don't know why as DACA is illegal anyway. It flies in the face of immigration law. LAW.

That said, I hope they shut it down. I am tired of this crap with continuing resolutions, and the willingness to hang our own citizens out to dry over illegal immigrants. ******* broke the law, why are we giving them anything other than a one way ticket home? The only way I consider a DACA compromise is with the funding for border security. Then MAYBE. Shut it down. Don't give in. If they give in, vote them out. It is time our government starts acting like adults and pass a damn budget. It is part of your ******* job. Not open ended continuing resolutions to fund pet programs. SHUT IT DOWN.

The "silent filibuster" has completely ruined the original intent of how legislation is passed. Unless you have a super majority you can't get **** done. Should definitely be changed back to the way it was when a filibuster was only meant to guarantee that an opposing position would be heard.

A DACA comprise for wall funding, e-verify, and voter IDs. Otherwise, we are back here in 10 years.

Screw em, shut it down. It's ridiculous that we need to negotiate to even enforce already existing laws. What the hell has happened to this world?

There already is a wall in most of the places it will do any good. I'd much rather have universal e-verify. Half the illegals come by plane anyway and overstay their visitor visas.

If the Democrats want to shut the govt down over allowing illegal immigrants in the country, then let them.

It's really no BFD anyway.

What does a government shutdown mean?
https://www.theblaze.com/news/2018/01/16/what-really-happens-during-a-government-shutdown

All non-essential government services will cease operation, and employees performing those duties will be furloughed, which means they will be forced to take an unpaid leave of absence.
Special: Sudden Trump move could destroy cryptocurrencies

This typically includes:

National parks
National monuments
Smithsonian museums
Maintaining federal websites
Processing of passports and VISAs
Smaller agencies of federal government, such as the Bureau of Land Management and the Federal Housing Administration will see delays on applications for things such as drilling applications and mortgage applications, respectively.

What essential services continue running during a government shutdown?

All military branches
Federal law enforcement agencies
U.S. Postal Service
Social Security payments will still be sent out
Medicaid checks will still be delivered
VA hospitals
SNAP/food stamps are still available to those who qualify

How many government employees can expect to be furloughed?

During the last government shutdown in 2013 about 850,000 federal employees were furloughed, which was approximately 40 percent of the workforce. That shutdown lasted 16 days before Congress reached a deal.

Once a budget deal is reached, Congress typically passes legislation to retroactively pay furloughed workers for the days missed.
How many times has a shutdown happened before?

According to the Congressional Research Service, there have been 12 shutdowns since 1981, the year it was codified in the Anti-Deficiency Act that government must stop running in the event of a funding gap. Previous to 1981, the government stayed up and running in anticipation of Congress reaching a deal and retroactively funding the programs.

What I'm seein' at the end of all this is a whole buncha feds getin' extra paid vacation time on us.

These shutdown threats go both ways.

I hope Republicans stand firm and get a good deal because that's all they are... negotiations.

I said last year... this should all be building up in some way shape or form to massive immigration reform sometime around March. All these "side deals" during each one of the shutdown threats eventually need to be consolidated into a bill that both the house and senate can pass and get on Trump's desk.

It would be a huge win for the Republicans for that to happen. Give the Dems DACA and CHIP and move from a wall to "border security" at the discretion of immigration enforcement (same money) and in return get complete overhaul of chain migration, ability of executive branch to decide countries of origin and a merit based system of immigration.

Obeying our own laws is now racist.

Yeah that's the most absurd **** ever. Get in line like everyone else and go through the process. It's pretty clear. I can't help it if your country is a shithole. Respect our laws and assimilate.

Yes you can help it. If you’re white and American it’s your fault.

While we are on the subject of immigration, let me share some information about Trump's " shithole " comment and exactly why he used that term. I'm sure there are some out there that are familiar with this information but I'm also sure that many are not....enjoy.

What I Learned in the Peace Corps in Africa: Trump Is Right

It is well worth reading but here is the opening snippet for yinz on the go.......

Three weeks after college, I flew to Senegal, West Africa, to run a community center in a rural town. Life was placid, with no danger, except to your health. That danger was considerable, because it was, in the words of the Peace Corps doctor, "a fecalized environment."

In plain English: s--- is everywhere. People defecate on the open ground, and the feces is blown with the dust – onto you, your clothes, your food, the water. He warned us the first day of training: do not even touch water. Human feces carries parasites that bore through your skin and cause organ failure.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined that a few decades later, liberals would be pushing the lie that Western civilization is no better than a third-world country. Or would teach two generations of our kids that loving your own culture and wanting to preserve it are racism.

I hope the Senate shuts it down. I will be out of a job, at least temporarily, but they have to get this right. They cannot cave in to this DACA bullshit.

Our local fuckstick media reported yesterday that he was undoing Obummers "DACA legislation". I'm sitting there yelling at the stupid ***** "There was no legislation!". Oh that pissed me off.

Yep.

Migrant farm workers are flying in business class on Delta Airlines...

Trump invites Schumer to WH

Trump phones Senate Dem leader Schumer, invites him to White House to try to reach deal to avert shutdown.

He needs more than Schumer and the Democrats. Hell, 4 or 5 members of his own party say they aren't voting for it. If they pass anything with any DACA concessions in it, then Trump is part of the ******* swamp he claims to detest.

I am not quick to condemn him either way. He is quite the negotiator and seems to have a 'Trump' card ready to throw at the most opportune times.
