Ben's gonna play 3 more years, so the immediate need for a replacement is not there right now. So, for me, Shazier's replacement needs to be number one. Is there anybody out there that might be able to do the things RS did? Especially when we will be drafting at 28? Jewell from Iowa might still be around. I saw him play a couple times this year against PSU and Ohio St. Seems like a stillers type of player. Tough, good hitter and tackler, great motor.

Who's most people lookin' at?

#1 ILB They have to replace Shazier. Followed closely by OLB, if they decide Bud is not the answer and they are not going to pick up his 5th year.

I understand the need for ILB or Safety, but it starts up front. NT Vita Vea is whom I would love them to draft.

Unless you get a new coaching staff, ain't going to make any difference at all. This is the team where number one defensive draft picks go to die. They might make the Pro Bowl but they won't get to a Super Bowl.

All depends on what happens with Butler and/or the new DC. We do not have the personnel to run a 3-4 right now (hence why we play so much 2-4) but we are almost a hybrid Tampa-2 team. If they want to move in that direction a NT is secondary. IF they want to transition back to a traditional 3-4 then a big ol NT can be found in the middle rounds of the draft.

That would be swell, but I'm pretty sure he won't last past pick #10-15

Best defensive player at ANY position.

Lets not act like this defense wasn't moderately less mediocre when Ryan was playing, forcing his replacement isn't completely necessary, we need help everywhere. So I'd pick whoever the best defensive player on the board, regardless of position.

However, if one of the top QBs drops to us, and there aren't any comparatively talented defensive players available, I take the QB. But, I expect quite a few QBs to be taken in the first, so we should have a shot at a decent player for our defense. We'll see.

Steelers need a ball hawking Free Safety. Then we need a true blue 3-4 Dedicated Nose Tackle. If we are going to continue a 3-4 Defense we need a guy who can stuff the middle and handle double teams.

After that LB'er, LB'er, LB'er.....ILB, OLB, ILB.....

After that take another DL, & DB.

Might want to go F/A for ILB so that #1 draft pick can be a FS, like Justin Reid from Stanford. Zack Brown and/or Demario Davis will likely be available. Doesn't mean we can draft another LB later

anything between ILB/S as #1 priority, then OLB. Also let me add that the FO could get a starter in one of these three positions in FA

Vea is an AMAZING player. At first blush, you might assume he is just another big tub... he is not. The guy does not have a gut... but he is HUGE. Reputable scouts are comparing him with Haloti Ngata... believing he can play inside and outside. The guy swallows ballcarriers. He easily ragdolls Olinemen around to get where he needs to go. He is scary good. No one moves him... no two guys move him. BTW... he also served as the short yardage and goal line RB in High School.

Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2017 (selected by coaches).

I want a stud ILB... I did even before Shazier was injured. But if Vea is available? I would be thrilled. Unfortunately, I doubt he reaches us at pick #28... but you never know with the overall devaluation of the NT position.

With the thought of Bell sitting out could we take a RB? I know it’s not on anyone’s radar but I really don’t see a long term deal worked out and could tag him once again.

Trade Bell to Cleveland for their 2 first round draft picks. NT,safety, corner or running back. That would be my dream. Cut the defensive coaching staff as well.

As much as it's not sexy, I think we need an ILB and the Biggest Ugliest NT we can find in the first 2 picks. We must replace Shazier and we must plug the middle of the field. I know that won't happen because of our D schemes but that is what needs to happen.

I agree! Hell I'm about ready to go to a 4-3, that way we'll at least be rushing 4 bigs most of the time, and we use our best LB (Watt) like a 4-3 LB any ways.

Big and ugly doesn't guarantee anything. Just look at Big Dan.

Thank you Ben! Now we can ignore QB in the draft for 2 more years.

Our ILB's are terrible right now.

Williams. Plays within a system but is slow and needs to be paired with a faster player. When Shazier went out, Williams struggled.
Spence. Too small, under powered. Not fast. Could be cut with a 1st or 2nd round pick spent at ILB.
Dirty Red. Best at special teams, also too small and slow
A. Fort - I like him in coverage. His tackling is not the best though.

I'd spend our 1st or 2nd round pick at ILB, BUT he needs to be fast enough to stay on the field.
