A while back I asked has our DL play regressed. Some of you laughed. I think we know the answer today.

Tuitt and Heyward has a combined 3 tackles. Hargrave who has hardly plays these days had but one and looked very slow and tired.

The QB pressures were lacking, and I saw too many holes for the Jags to run through.

This unit can be better.

No excuses for the below average play but i think Tuitt and Hargrave have both been playing hurt for weeks now, especially Tuitt.

The inside got dominated but Watt and Dupree were getting mauled, which is not an excuse - rather a fact. Watt does not have the NFL strength to fight through and Dupree has only shown solid backup level skill so far. The sad part is that I think that Dupree will got a 4-3 team and end up a decent player but we stupidly use him counter to his skill set.

D line? What a joke, fat dancing bears aren't worth a ****., cut them all and hire waiver wire scrubs

The front 3 in a 3-4 must be big and able to play all 3 downs. Our issues are we don't have a true NT and don't try to use our 3rd DL that way. As everyone knows, we go to 2 DL quite often. You absolutely can not play that way. Our run defense has continued to get worse when going in this direction and since Butler took over. They have no interest in Big Snack II. That is a HUGE need, all pun intended. We need a BIG ******* UGLY NT to anchor the 3-4. That will only make every one else better.

Enough of this, we were out of our gap bullshit. Get a BIG ******* UGLY NT that demands a double team on all 3 downs and your gaps are less important.

I couldn't agree more, hell we've used 2 DL several times in goal line or short yardage plays, totally ridiculous.

The big ugly NT seems to be a premium player around the league. For that reason alone it's time to abandon the 3-4. Another reason is the DL in general rarely gets any pressure on the QB because like you said they are too big and slow. Unless you blitz there is no pressure. And QBs like Lord brady have exploited this for years now.

I'm all about drafting a NT early to compete with Hargrave. Just not sold on him. We've been eaten alive by the run all year. We need our DL to be so much better than they were yesterday. We know we are deficient at MLB and we have one OLB who can't contain (48).

There were some in the draft. I had a few in my mock drafts over the last few years. They aren't a sexy pick but to still run a 3-4 effectively, you need to draft one high, especially if you don't have one. And, who knows, we may have one on the roster but they are so worried about playing gaps, they don't use him that way. Get the NT over the Center and plow his *** over on every damn down. That plugs the middle and collapses the pocket.

If we still had Timmons the lack of DL tackles would not have been noticeable yesterday. You need a big/quick linebacker to bring a big back down.
Williams is too slow and Spence too small.

Didn't I tell you dancing Bears are an offensive term?

File that one under he must have Biff like manure for brains. 2 DL near the goal line? Hello, just run in in their and aim for the pint sized ILB picked up off the street.

Totally disagree on Watt, 1. He's a rookie, he'll get stronger, 2. He had like 7 sacks even though he was in coverage for 75% of his snaps this year. 7 sacks while rushing the QB on only 25% of the snaps is pretty good. I didn't see Jax running wide left very often.

Butler must GO!!!!! Won't happen but we need change on this defense. Might as well start with Bulter in my opinion.

How about we go away from the 3 - 4 completely.

Yep. Watt had a pretty damn good season.

Tuitt probably hasn't been healthy all year and he was the only DL to make plays yesterday, but they weren't nearly enough.

Hargrave doesn't appear to be in the same physical condition as he was last year. He was quick as a rookie, now he just looks big and slow. You don't see that same burst and explosiveness that he flashed.

Seriously, I keep hearing about players playing hurt and that's great to an extent. If that player is playing hurt and is a detriment to the team, as evidenced by our piss poor run defense all year, then that player needs to sit and get better.

Hopefully Butler will be told to retire just like Arians was when he was here.
