Gruden to the Raiders. A 10 year deal worth $100,000,000.00 ?!

They could have hired me for a flat 20M for 10 years and I would do just as good as Gruden will do...

We're talking coaching an NFL team,......Not lining up at the buffet table....................

Salute the nation

I think the popular teams will end up being a tough ticket with thousands and thousands of fans going. I do love Vegas though. Will be a party.

It's silly money in a silly game.

As someone put it earlier, the salary cap has gone up like crazy in the last decade. Why haven't coaches' salaries? I mean, we all know why Marvin Lewis is still in Cincinnati.... he takes his $3 million and year and likes it. Over and over and over again even though his players are making twice as much as they did in 2000.

This is really nothing in the scheme of things to the owner unless it's a complete wash out and he lasts 2 seasons. But you know what they will do then? Buy a minority coach on the cheap to replace him. Get anyone that just wants a chance at $2 or $3 million/year and they will buy out Gruden's contract.

This really isn't all that bad a publicity move in my opinion moving to Las Vegas. Kind of worth it.

If Gruden is worth $100M......hmmmmmm

Browns offer Bill Cowher $150M!

If a guy like Gruden is worth $10 million a year, imagine what they can pay coaches like Belichick and Tomlin. Top coordinators have to love this as well as their pay should start to go up.

I think gruden will work well. The raiders have talent and have severely underperformed. The 10yr deal is ridiculous. It's rare for a coach to stick around that long, let alone one who has already been around a while.

After he won with Dungy's players against his old team, dude was 45-51 and 0-2 in the post season. He's there for the name recognition to help transition to Vegas, but they will play mediocre ball and won't be a factor at all. The old Raiders are dead and buried.

If I was the other owners I would have Davis picked up at the airport for the owners meeting by a swarthy guy with no neck and a many vowel last name. Its always been tge Raiders among a few others that come up with these ridiculous contracts that reset the market. It would be different if it worked. Never does.

Went over his stats, etc.

I think he can succeed but I think he will need a good D coordinator.

Not sure Jon will turn them into a Juggernaut, but he could get them back onto winning ways. And maybe throw in a SB along the line....

Unless you are coaching in the AFCN and you suck.

Thing is, I can fly to Vegas for literally a $100 weekend from where I live. That stadium will ALWAYS be packed. With opposing team's fans, sure. But they won't have attendance problems.

I believe you are right, wig. I can drive there in about 4 hours and flights are cheap. Folks from opposing teams will see it as a chance to gamble a little and watch the game.
The only way that will change is if the Raiders become consistently good, and that may take years.
Loved going to the Cardinal games here with more than half the stadium in B&G.

Fly out of Great Falls for the lowest price. We do it 2-3 times a year

his old team, that he helped build into a powerhouse in the late 90's? have we forgotten how bad the raiders were until he came along?

some of you people act like jon gruden is on the same level as rich kotite, because it's "hip" to say "Gruden sucked". whatever.

Power house? He was 38-26 and 2-2 in the post season with the Raiders. That "power house" got crushed by the Bucs and then both teams returned to mediocrity rather quickly. Some legacy. Come on, the guy has turned Chucky and his MNF job into celebrity. His numbers arent even as good as Madden's. Hell, Tom Flores was 8-3 in the post season. And now Gruden's been out of the game for 10 years.

The guy is worth it because of the total package. It is a coach and a face for the franchise.

very shrewd. And savvy business move

I vote for Tony Romo to take Gruden's place in the booth

I can see Vegas NFL packages. A perfect excuse :)

Gruden is alright, Romo is definitely a better commentator.
