For those who want a QB in round one next year. An early scouting report.

Updated rankings, Jan 2018

1 ) Rudolph. I still think he will picked early. He will be at the senior bowl and could be a man among boys. Top passer ( Almost threw for 5,000 yards this season ), accurate, big, durable, and he's a running threat near the goal line.

2 ) Rosen. Looks like Peyton Manning on some throws. But is he durable enough? A little awkward looking, but surprisingly athletic.

3 ) Jackson - Not for everyone, but he's a near Mike Vick type of talent.

4 ) Mayfield. The senior bowl week will make or break him. Does he have the arm? Is he over 6 feet tall? Can he adapt to pro coaching with footwork? I think his football character and work ethic is good, so don't compare him to Manziel.

5 ) Allen. Amazing upside, hard to judge due to the talent around him. Not ready to play in the NFL. A perfect pick for round two for a team that has an aging, but talented QB.

6 ) Darnold. Did not come close to living up to the hype. Forces the ball. A bit Interception prone and very fumble prone. Very high bust potential, but if he can play as he did two seasons ago, you'll have a winner

7 ) Luke Falk. Will have to prove he's not a systems QB. Can he make NFL throws, and what type of arm and velocity does he have? He'll be at the senior bowl, so we'll see.

If Ben is coming back, we need to take a guy that will help now, possibly an ILB.

Ben has one more year on his contract and seems to be having fun. He'll be back in 2018. 2019? Who knows.

Right now, I like ILB and Safety in rounds 1, and 2. BPA at either spot.

Homer pick. If Ryan Finley decides to go pro, I'd take him in the late second. Kid can make all the throws, protects the ball, and appears to be a good character. 6-4 and durable.

would he last to the late 2nd? The Steelers rarely trade up. He would be my choice of all the QBs, if he declares.

I doubt "the" guy is there where the Steelers draft. So it comes down to this. The Steelers with all their weapons are a pretty attractive spot for a Cousins. If you believe you could contend with him for championships you make the move. If he just wants big bucks **** him. Go with Jones and look at the kid. My guess is you would contend with Jones for a playoff spot. Then draft one when you are in the middle of the first round not the bottom.

so, you would purposely tank a season or two with the talent they currently have? Sounds dicey. Cousins is going to get paid. I really doubt the Steelers go that route, but stranger things have happened. I would take a serious look at McCarron. He could be a good stopgap, better than Jones, to give them some time to make an adjustment.

Its not tanking. Jones made all the throws last week. Why would you think Mccerron would be better. Cause he has a hot girlfriend and went to Alabama? If Jones turns out hes free. If he busts you draft early. The worst thing you can do is draft in the latter part of the round and tie yourself to that pick for 5 years. If the guy you truley believe in falls that is different. Just dont take one cause you have to. Give Landry a chance. He could be as good as Cousins. Easily.

I don't know. He doesn't seem to get the publicity. Maybe if he declares that will change. You never know, Wilson went a lot later than most people expected.

He has a hot gf? I haven't noticed.

I do like what I saw from AJ and he is not going to sit behind Red forever. I think he's a FA, that's why I brought him up. I'm just not sold on LJ. That's just me.

I think Jones has played well enough that I'd be fine letting him have a season after Ben retires, and concentrate my draft while Ben is here on winning now.
If Ben retires after 18 you can draft a guy in that draft possibly. You never know, Rodgers dropped to 24, Brees fell to the 2nd round.

Are you going on that game they played against the Steelers. He is under 1000 yards for his career. There is less to go on than Landry. Im not sold on Landry. How could you be? But I fail to see what a guy like AJ has that Jones doesnt. I will say Jones needs a ****** make over if he is going to be a starting qb. He looks more like a Skinner than a star qb with that moustache.

It was against the Browns......I'm still taking a QB early.

He played decent last year vs NE I think as well. You're probably not getting your next QB as long as Ben is around, unless you get lucky.
If there's an ILB or a S or even a TE there in April that has the potential to start day one next season, I'm not passing on that for a QB that's going to sit

Darnold. Darnold has not impressed me in two viewings. This guy thinks he's Brett Farve, except he doesn't have that special type of arm to pull off what Favre did. He's hot-headed or if you prefer very competitive, but his emotions get the best of him too often. While the tools are there to be great, I saw some stuff I did not like and his accuracy is just okay. Could be a real boom or bust type of pick. Right now I do not think he's worth trading up to obtain and think he should stay in school if possible unless he has a strong close for the year. Fair or not, beware of hyped USC QB's like Sanchez and Leinart. While I did not think either was good NFL prospects or QB's the hype attached to them wasn't a good thing for their development.

No mention of the fact that hes still a kid. A sophomore.

That game and some what I've seen in pre-season. You are correct, there's little on AJ to go on compared to Jones. I wouldn't be against bringing another young arm in to compete with Landry if he can't handle a whole season. Just to hand him the starting job with Dobbs as his back-up is where it terrifies me with the current talent they do have. I could see AB getting very impatient if he doesn't get his catches.

I think we are in agreement. So long as the young arm isnt a first rounder just to take a first rounder. If tge guy you think really could be it falls. Go for it. Dont waste a second though either. They have two of those guys on the roster.

I thought TE should be a need in this upcoming draft but we have McDonald under contract and we can get a TE later in the draft.

ILB/QB are my top two concerns and not in that order. Safety is another and that can probably go round 2/3.

We could get lucky and sign a veteran to a deal at ILB to cover that position up for a year or two. I think the time to draft Ben's replacement is now, even if he is back next year it allows whoever that person is to learn the system.

Certainly, I don't want to them to draft a guy just to appease the fans. They need to get their guy. If they need to move up, I hope they go against their grain and go get "him". Picking #11 and stealing another Ben is kinda unlikely. I would like to see some aggression, but not to break the bank.

given the overall age of our core group of players, we need to bring in a QB of at least their age. a Rookie QB will not be as beneficial overall to the immediate success that we expect given we still have AB and Bell in their prime. Someone we've not seen mentioned very much that is a FA QB after the season is Case Keenum (Coolie just splooged). He's 29 and is coming off unarguably his best season. He's got a good/decent OL in Minnesota, but none of the weapons we have. He'll likely fly well under the high dollar radar, since Cousins and Brees top the FA list. Minnesota may want him back, but they also have Teddy Bridgewater signed. Sam Bradford is also a FA for Minnesota, so the Vikings will most likely offer the same low dollar contract to both and sign the first to accept.

so you bring in Keenum and draft a QB. That's typically how we've operated when transitioning positions.

Landry Jones? **** that guy. We know what kind of immobile pick-six machine he is.

No guarantee Bell is back next year. It is likely he gets tagged again unless they can figure out how to pay him something he will accept.

I agree that Landry has shown he is not the QB of the future. With the players we have we need a good QB. We will find out all too soon how life without Ben is and I don't want to be one of these teams that's so so every year without a franchise QB.

God knows you have to get a QB early, there is NEVER any quality QB's beyond pick #20.

I would guess more successful QB's are drafted after #20 than before. Marino, Moon, Montana, Brady, Brees .......

Can we sign and trade Bell to Cleveland ( He's from Ohio ) in exchange for the Browns 4th overall pick and select RB Saquon Barkley?

We'd save 12 million or so in cap space, giving us ANY ILB or S in free agency we want.

Besides Rb's seldom last long.
