New Year's Day and we have 3 bowls plus the 2 playoff games. The thing that sucks is because they want each playoff game by itself they are playing all 3 of the early bowl at about the same time at noon.
12:00 Outback Bowl - Michigan vs South Carolina -
best part is that the Big Ten is already 7-0 in bowls so i can root against Michigan and Harbaugh. But i think Mich will smash South Car. Sure Michigan lost 4 games but that was to 5 Ohio State, 6 Wisconsin, 9 Penn State and 16 Mich State. They smashed Florida and SC beat Florida in a close one.. Michigan is not a great team but they are good. I'm not sure how good South Car is.
12:30 Chick-Fil-A Bowl - 12 UCF vs 7 Auburn
Interesting game. Let's see what UCF has. Their HC Scott Frost is leaving for Nebraska, but he will coach the bowl game. It's hard to say how that will go as he juggles 2 jobs. It's a huge game for their program. It's a huge step up in opponent talent level. UCF has not faced a defense with anything close to Auburn's talent. On the plus side, their offense is based on deception and not power so they may have some tricks up their sleeve. I hope so. If they get blown out, it will only justify snubbing the little guys in the future. Although if they win, it will be dismissed as Auburn not being that into the game, as if a 3 loss team has reason to be disappointed they are not in the playoffs.
1:00 Citrus Bowl - 14 Notre Dame vs 17 LSU
I have a feeling this will be a horrible game. Both teams just want to run the ball. Sometimes a low scoring game can be exciting if it's low scoring because of great defensive plays. But if it's low scoring because each team keeps running into a wall then punting, it's not so great. Notre Dame has a freshman QB. The thing that makes bowl games great is sometimes a team improves a ton during the extra practices and adds some unexpected wrinkles. I hope somebody does something unexpected in this game because if it goes as i expect, it will be a snooze.
