Harrison today

Who is to say if things had been handled differently, he would not have been an *** through the year?

Let’s just hope all of you are right.

In training camp he refused to practice in training camp at what point were the coaches supposed to handle things differently.

https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/2017/12/29/friday-insider-harrison-situation-avoided/

Readers of this site know that Harrison wasn’t happy. And, apparently, he wasn’t afraid to let his teammates know he was unhappy with his situation going all the way back to Latrobe.

According to a source, Harrison refused to practice as early as training camp when the Steelers were dealing with some injuries at the linebacker position
. At the time, Mike Tomlin said Harrison wasn’t practicing because the team had a plan for him. Harrison said he was just doing what he was told.

But Harrison was seeing the writing on the wall, even then. The Steelers inserted rookie T.J. Watt as their starter at outside linebacker, and the kid was making plays. People were raving about him, including the coaching staff.

Then, linebackers coach Joey Porter told me the Steelers planned to, “go with the young guys and use Harrison if needed.” He would be a relief pitcher. And relief pitchers don’t get into the game if the starter is being effective.

That wasn’t what Harrison wanted to hear.

Harrison apparently asked to be traded following the team’s first game of the season, when he played just four snaps despite Bud Dupree missing the game with a shoulder injury while Anthony Chickillo and Watt started and played most of the snaps.

At age 50, James will be better than Bud and Chickillo. Bud is a little better Jarvis Jones, he’s a non factor. Chickillo is a special teamer, nothing more. James should have been a back up at the least and get half of bud’s snaps, I don’t care which side he plays on.

Yeah, coverage be damned because damnit, I like James!!!

A good coach gets something from all his players. You have a 53 man roster that can be used each and every game. How much better would Dupree be if Harrison had been getting some of his snaps when he wasn't getting it done? How much fresher would Watt have been during the game if Harrison was giving him a 2-3 play breather a couple times a game? What if we would have Harrison to spell a DL for a bit? Once we lost Shazier, why not move Play a 3 LB scheme, and move Harrison into the middle? So many things COULD HAVE been done during the season? Harrison knew he was not going to be the starter, but to give him ZERO time, that was just stupid.

Now Harrison is fresh, and pissed off at the Steelers, while playing for the *'s. Who the **** didn't see that coming? I'll tell you who, Moe, Larry, Curly and Shemp (Rooney, Colbert, Tomlin, Butler), That's who. I honestly believe that they figured he would just quietly slink away and wait for them to call him, then expect him to be happy to come back. I don't see him EVERYDAY, and I knew that is not how he would handle it. He came back to PLAY, I wouldn't be surprised to see him play for someone next year too.

If it comes down to NE & PIT in the AFCCG, I fully expect that #92 will get a sack, and a couple of hits on Ben during the game. Wouldn't even surprise me that he even tries to make it a statement too. Harrison will be out for blood, and not be tired out at that time in the season. Just hope he doesn't kill Ben in the process.

He doesn't play special teams, can't cover (which our OLB's now do 60% of the time), was acting like an *** REFUSING to practice, SLEEPING during LBer meetings...Yup, the FO really screwed the pooch on this one. I don't why it's so hard to understand, James would still be a Steeler had Sutton not outperformed expectations coming back from injury basically making it impossible to keep a malcontent around any longer.

Are you talking about the game where DeShone Kizer got some 300 yards passing?

I didn't watch all Bud's dropbacks. But I doubt he was tremendously effective. Sorry dude. There's just no way to argue it. Now I'm not suggesting Harrison is a better fit as a full time starter for the Steelers, but from an output standpoint, he destroyed Bud. There's no point arguing about it. As I said, it's done. But let's not pretend Harrison had nothing to offer. The Steelers just didn't want what James was offering. Fair enough.

If you didn't watch Dupree's dropbacks, then don't comment on anything about his game today. He covers TE's, Clev TE's had two catches for 38 yards, one of those catches was for 34 yards, and Dupree was rushing the QB on that play. That was the play where he just threw Haden aside for another 15 yards. Kizer got 300 yards because he 4 passes that went for HUGE yardage because of the secondary miscommunicating. Kizer is a slippery guy, he managed to get out of at least 4 sacks today, one by Watt, one by Dupree, one by everyone (that fourth down scare at the end), and one on a run that was called back because of a hold.

Dupree isn't lighting the world on fire, but he isn't dog **** like most of you are saying either. He's a million times better than Jarvis Jones, and yes, at this point in their careers, with what this defense is asking the OLB's to do, he's better than Harrison too.

It's early to make any type of assessment on Dupree. The kid has all the tools. It's not out of the question he puts together a solid playoff run. I for one am hoping it happens. One thing I'm sure about, he's no Jarvis Jones. I'm still holding out hope for the kid. Same goes for our other youngsters like Sean Davis and Artie Burns. The book has yet to be written on our recent draft picks , nothing like the playoffs as a time to shine. On the opposite end of the spectrum are players like Mike Mitchell and Will Gay. I'm afraid their best football is behind them at this stage.

Dupree was drafted nearly three year ago. It's no longer premature to make assessments of him as a player. The bust alarm is not yet going off, but it's starting to power up.

The guy everyone should be bitching about is Tuitt. He has been turned loose just like Cam has. Only Cam is producing. Tuitt is my key to us making a run..STEP THE **** UP

Do you guys not remember having hissy fits because all TEs killed us. Not just Gronk all TEs. Outside of Gronk thia year what TE has given us any trouble..Dupree is a big part of that. We dont play our OLBs the same way anymore their primary job isnt sacks. Thats why Cam has 12. Thats why we need Tuitt to make more plays. They have more rush opportunities then the OLBs..only Cam is producing

Looks like he's fitting in.....

Square peg in a round hole.

I suspect Tuitt never fully recovered from the bicep and back issues from earlier in the season.

Being healthy enough to play and being at one's best aren't necessarily the same thing.

Joey Porters the guy who determines which LBs see the field, he's the one who should be fired folkes... apparently he's still butt hurt over Debo taking his job way back when. There's NO WAY Bud Dupree should've been starting over Deebo.

smh

Harrison whined like a ***** throughout the season and was becoming a team cancer.

**** him and the pats for the quadrillionth time.

That and couple in the possibility of Harrison playing bad intentionally just to get the **** out. Would I want him back, hell no and now he is associated with the cheating ******* as well. Good for you Mr. Harrison.............

**** this arguement

Salute the nation

Harrison signing with the Patriots is probably going to be a bigger distraction for the Steelers in the event of a rematch with the Patriots than him remaining on the Steelers would have been.

That was most likely Belichick's primary motivation behind signing Harrison.

Can you imagine all the Harrison-related crap the national media would be throwing at the Steelers in the week leading up to a prospective AFCC game against the Patriots?

It would make the diversion created by Brown's social media antics after the divisional round last year seem minor in comparison.

I think it will be opposite. This locker rooms seems they are done talking about him. And glad he is GONE.

I truly hope Harrison is on the field. i truly believe the Steelers will attack him.

LOL.....Good stuff. Thanks for the laugh.

Today's game showed why it was stupid to cut Harrison. Set aside the fact that he could have helped as a situational pass rusher for the steelers. The main problem is he immediately helps the Pats.

They were awful at pass rush. So what if JH can only play about 15 snaps. That will likely be 15 key passing downs where you now have to worry about a pass rush where before, you didn't.

It was so obvious that the Pats would pick him up. I know that sounds like hindsight but it's not in this case, It had such a high likelihood that the steelers never should have cut him.

Steelers say he was unhappy? Let him pout in a corner but don't essentially gift him to the Pats.

Sucks but he was very impressive in his debut with the Cheatriots. He is definitely better than Chicklo and Moats but we chose to keep them instead.

James was upset in the beginning of preseason. No kidding. They sat him all last season behind a worthless Jarvis jones cause our coaches knew better and he was washed up. Turns out he was the best olb on the team when they finally played him. This preseason he is told he isn't playing for the youth movement cause he is old and not James Harrison of 08. Seen this play out before, benched before given a chance. So you want a potential hof linebacker who knows he is better than the likes of bud, moats and chickalo be a cheerleader when not given a fair chance to compete for spot or playing time. Can't imagine why he was unhappy and pissed. He felt he wasn't given a chance ...... again.

Why does this thread remind me of the off season?

Because 95% of the discussion is people who claim to know better than the FO, and whining throughout..... definitely offseasonish. Yet, the whining is super strong in here, worse than usual.
