Haha, well the elephant in the room is. Ben has made through 14 games so far. the bubble wrap needs to be pretty close for him.

I tore my calf once, heard a pop, horrific pain, bruising, couldn't walk, the whole shebang. Was fine in about 3 weeks with no particular treatment. It was weird how fast it healed. May it be the same for AB.

Hopefully - we don't know how badly ripped it is though, how much bleeding and swelling he has

Pittsburgh's best weapon has been sidelined at least until the postseason.

Hopefully, the news that Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown has a partially torn calf muscle means he does not have compartment syndrome and won’t need surgery to relieve pressure on the injured area.

One thing is for certain, he did not go to the hospital for a torn calf muscle. There was clearly concern for something more severe.

Brown was injured in Sunday’s game against the Patriots after a direct blow to his lower leg while he attempted to make a catch in the end zone. By video, his leg whipped into the defender’s leg, which caused his ankle to invert.

After x-rays, it was reported as a calf injury and soon thereafter Brown was sent to the hospital for further evaluation.

He is likely undergoing test of pressure in his lower leg to rule out compartment syndrome, wherein there is enough bleeding/swelling to cut off microvascular blood flow, as the muscle is constricted by fascia and has nowhere to swell. If the compartment pressure is high, Brown might need a fasciotomy, a procedure that involves the casing of the muscle being cut to allow swelling.

Compartment syndrome is one of the true orthopedic emergencies. If not treated, amputation is possible.

This is why we have Hunter. He's our emergency WR in tow, and would not be surprised if he starts on the outside this week. Keeping JuJu and Eli in the slots.

Apparently when AB is out Heyward Bey has to be in the game in place of Martavis.. I bet he out snapped Martavis in the 2nd half.

They play different positions. Bryant is the Z, DHB is the X. JuJu could play X in 1 or 2 receiver sets, but in 3 or 4, I want him inside at the Y and Hunter and Bryant outside.

Steelers preach position flexibility, are you saying Bryant can't play the X ?

not buying if you are selling

If the Steelers have to count on Hunter, they're in trouble.

He's shown nothing - or less if that's possible - this season.

We still have solid weapons to survive without Brown. Not that it's easy to swallow, because nobody is going to give us those spectacular moments, but we're not exactly trotting out Cobi Hamilton again either.

For the regular season

You want a guy just starting to get comfortable at the Z position, route wise, to relearn the responsibilities and patterns on the other side of the field, and expect him to be better?

You keep Bryant where he is, because he is comfortable there. He'd look lost on the other side. He had a year off from football, and never had to learn the X because he was always the starting Z when he played.

The only position flexible WRs we have are JuJu, Brown, and DHB. Though Hunter played both the X and Z in training camp.

he isn't a fricken rookie he has had plenty of time to learn more than one position and do well at it.

His burst hasn't been there this year, that has nothing to do with his route running.

They could re-sign Ayers...

He knows the system - did some nice things late last season - and is on the Bears' practice squad.

Looking at his twitter feed, he keeps up with several players on the team, and realizes he f-ed up by not accepting the Steelers' offer to re-sign after the exhibition season.

I hear you Slash, I just personally don't think he's smart enough to make a seamless position swap. It's like asking a RT to play LT and be just as good or better. It's the same positioning, but done on the opposite side with mirrored technique.

I played the X in HS and to this day, catch the ball much better running right, than I do running left, because that was the direction of my inside slants and drags. Same with these guys. Bryant has never lined up or even ran a route from the X, so I wouldn't expect the coaches to flip and play him on the other side. I just personally don't see it IMHO.

If I'm a betting man, when we go 3 and 4 WRs, Hunter or DHB will be the X. JuJu should be running X in 1 or 2 WR sets.

How can anyone not love this guy...

Despite injury, Steelers WR Antonio Brown hosts holiday shopping spree for kids at Ross Park Mall

On Sunday evening, Steelers fans saw Antonio Brown being helped off the Heinz Field turf on his way to the hospital with a serious calf injury.

Brown has been ruled out of Pittsburgh's Christmas game at Houston, but the injury did not stop him from riding into Champs Sports at Ross Park Mall on a bike for his injured leg and hosting a shopping spree for 84 students from Holy Family Academy.

As Brown met the kids and handed out gift cards, the NFL's leading receiver was also setting an example for them by making his scheduled appearance at the store.

"It's all about how you handle adversity," he said. "You play the game long enough, you are going to experience some adversity. But you have to keep the right mentality, regardless of that adversity. Always work to get better and hold true to your word. I made a commitment with these kids and I am here today, regardless of how I feel."

I think Ayers burnt his bridge back to the Burgh with his tweeting comments about which receivers the coaches should be playing/starting when he was just a ps squad player for us. Stupid move to comment on how your coaches should be coaching when you're just barely clinging onto a spot.

Well, he wasn't wrong. Maybe they can bring him on as a player/coach?
