Gilbert

I said it when he was signed it was a dumb move . What a shock Gilbert finally got his fat *** in shape and coincidentily it was a contract year. The Steelers stupidly took the bait and signed a poor player that gave up 11 sacks last year and is well on his way to eclipsing that this year, good thing we don't know as much football as the Tomlins and Colberts of the world because they are football gods and we are just stupid fans who don't know the game.

let's see 5 sacks in two games he is on pace to give up 40 sacks this year only by himself

8 milion sbonus

Gilbert looks like he went from 340 to 320:) but it is he does not have the feat:( to contend with elite rushers, on both sacks Ben should of just thrown the ball away as he saw the pocket was falling like how the Ussr fell apart.
Why was Foster the last ol to set up he had to look back to Ben every time until there was less than 10 secs on the play clock, looked lost out there, aside from DeCastro no OL played well.

If big Dan does not dress it’s time to raise more questions on Tomlin and his job security. I want Worlids gone after the year and I would not mind a transformation to the 4-3 as Spence looks fine and if he were to start on the weak side he could do a better job than worlids vs the run.

We could make a switch to the 4-3(don't snap it’s time to think out of the box and it's just a thought, this post is thought’s because the DL has no identity so far and I can’t stand it.
You would need a fast under DT have Mcullers and McClendon( 1 more year ) as the 1T, could at times put kesiel as the 3T, RE Tuitt/Cam Thomas and Heyward at LDE ROLB shazier MLB timmons/spence LOLB lolb Spence. Maybe for 20% of the D reps.

Until we see Big Dan at NT or signs that the run D can stop a offence to under 100 yds on the ground hopefully 80 ypg it can’t hurt to think of going to a 4-3 as Heyward@ tuitt both can play inside if needed but are better suited on the edges, Mclendon could be a short term 3T with McCullers and Cam clogging at the NG spot.
I bring the 4-3 topic b/c the saying if it aint broke don't change is totally irrelevant to our run D and it does not look like Lebeau or Tomlin made any changes in the game to the run d aside from a few breathers to lt and Vince Williams on.
Why the 4-3 easier to find CB's and with an aging secondary a cover 2 either the Tampa 2 and adding a better interior pass rush from inside can help better than the way our 3-4 looks with the rush from the edge, largely b/c the DL cannot stop the run and the missed tackles.
We know Worlids is not worth 11 mill and we will let him walk so drafting a pass rushing DT like a Aaron Donald/ Gerald Mcoy type Dt to play as the 3T can help while being backed up by McClendon next year with Mccullers and thomas as the NG.

An example what some 4-3 looks can look like occasionally this year and full time next year
2014
LE Heyward
NG Cam Thomas/Brett Kesiel/Mccullers
DT Steve Mclendon/ Kesiel
RE Kesiel/Tuitt/Thomas
LOLB Spence/Shazier
MLB Timmons/Spence
ROLB Shazier/Jones

2015
LE Heyward
DT McCullers
DT fa/McClendon/rookie
RE Tuitt
LOLB Spence
MLB Timmons
ROLB Shazier/Jones

2015 draft
1 CB
2 OLB/DT
3 LG

It may take another year for Wesley Johnson to enter the starting lineup to take over for Foster.
Its time Art ii really puts heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! on Tomlin for results

Jarvis although it is his 2nd year has to show he can get to the QB, hopefully he is working hard on agility drills to get faster and lighter on his feet to help with his burst.
Remember! These are just thoughts and ideas as watching the D was like watching a chic flick with the wife, we may stick with the 3-4 hopefully JJ and Worlids get their *** ready for Cam Newton.

After this play Gilbert should have just taken himself out of the game

Someone needs to put together a lowlight recording of his games with us. I need a good laugh.

Gilbert is playing some of the worst football of his career and Beachum isn't playing a whole lot better on the other side, consistently getting pushed back into the pocket. I suppose at least hasn't allowed, what, 4 sacks in two games?

That play was just embarrassing.

Embarrassing to Gilbert, embarrassing to football, embarrassing to the Steelers, embarrassing to those great Steelers offensive linemen of the 1970's, 90's, and 2001-2005.

We all remember highlights involving Steelers offensive lineman of years past - showing the lineman bullying the defenders, and opening up a lane for yet another 8-yard run by Franco, or Bettis, or Parker.

Now? Gilbert being rolled onto his back like a girl scout who wandered onto a football field and lined up at RT.

Oh, and we knew this was going to be a problem. How many times did we read that a defender had rolled Gilbert onto his back in training camp? 2? 3? At least Gilbert practiced being rolled over in camp so that he could do so without injuring himself during the game.

That is the play that elicited my quote.

Adams was actually not bad on the Right side. Y'all seem to forget that was his rookie year over there. There's no way he would be worse than gilbert on the right side. With his run blocking he'd have to be better

Adams was indeed a decent (not great) run blocker. The Steelers really should consider putting him at RT and making sure that the TE lines up alongside him for any pass play.

After all the $$$ they invested in Gilbert it won't happen. Would be a tacit admission that THEY screwed up.

That is another high reason I want Tomlin and co. exited. The inability to bench when necessary. Cam was benched in San Diego but here he is not being a backup but a starter. Fine to give him a try, but he is clearly not working in that role.

We can add Ike, etc. to the list.

Do you include Munchak in that group? Sure he was part of the input. I never consider anyone I don't know stupid-either coach or fan. Ain't that smart.

As to benching these guys that were mentioned in another post, the guys behind them in most cases are worse! Part of the problem with the team is of late the acquisitions have been so bad and the talent evaluation so bad the guys we kept could get beat by bench riders from another team. The team has no heart or drive. I saw players standing and watching the play run away from them during the last game, Two names I remember Thomas and Jones. Usually Jones at least runs down the field to be around the ball after a big gain.

To be fair to Jones and not just jump on the continued vitriol spouted against him since last year, most of the time when he was running down field to be around the ball after a big gain, the big gain came on Worilds' side or straight up the middle. Jones was decent (not great) last game against the run and maintaining his assignments against the run. He's improving in that regard. Just not consistently putting enough pressure on the QB.

Edit: Depot has a little article about the left side's problem stopping the run. Not very informative, as it's a rehash of what we can all see. but here it is.

I actually saw some improvement in his game as well all though it did not get stated that well in my post. My point was though he stopped chasing and watched on some occasions. Early in the game I saw him make a few plays.

Agreed. I think that Jones is one of the team's better defenders at this point.

Mike Munchak is a coach and was a good player in his day. Munchak can instruct, motivate and prepare a player but if a player is a ***** and hasn't the heart to want to excel? No amount of others telling the player he is that good or how much money is thrown at the player will get results. Gilbert is either not playing a position he is comfortable with or an overpaid oaf that at a minimum belongs on the practice squad.

When I was growing up, a frontal wedgee was called a "gilbert." If someone gave you a Gilbert, it hurt (if you were a guy)

Gilbert was a dual ot at Florida, it was clear by the combine he did not have the feat to play the blind side, I believe he started as a lot in his first 2 years at uf then spent his final years as a rt and looked like a good one. He was fat when drafted and as a rook too heavy and even last year, he trimmed down in camp and I guess the fo saw commitment to give himself to this zone 1 cut blocking scheme. this is why they shelled out the cash, problem is at times he can't pass block at all and mt and Haley should have miller or speath to help him. Haley made no adjustments it was relevant after the 1st sack which would been 3 for dumervill had he not lead with his helmet on the first hit on Ben. I understand Haley"s offence target is primarily get the ball out of Ben"s hands fast but instead of always using 4 wr sets with bell in the back field and often going into motion towards the end of the snap count to a wr, Haley should use some 3 wr 1te and 1 rb sets with fl brown se Wheaton slot Moore/miller. Speath/Palmer bell.
When it's 3rd and under 8 put miller in the slot and put speath to chip on the backside then dip into flat or just a short stick route Wheaton for a slant/comeback or screen.
