Ravens Game Thoughts

I would rather be the worst team in the league than what they are -- mediocre. Mediocre doesn't get coaches fired in Pittsburgh. Mediocre doesn't get you great draft picks. Mediocre doesn't bring about the changes that are required to turn this around. Yep, I'd rather they finish 4-12 than 8-8. Call me a bad fan, but I actually don't care enough about this any more to care.

Judging from the way things look now, 8-8 is nowhere in sight. I have looked at the schedule. I do not comfortable saying that we can defeat one team the rest of the way.

At least he is not locked in with a contract. He did us a favor by refusing that contract...He will get little interest on the FA market if this keeps up..

he'll turn it on about midseason and steal a big pay check from another team

Justin Brown should not dress again, get healthy Lance Moore and Bryant.

These PF penalties on defense are bullshit, but this is what they are going to call. We need to saddle up and lower the target for our hits, aim for the ******* knees.

We **** the bed after the Brown fumble. Time to regroup.

He'll get a sack or two against the clowns, Jax, bungles, or Texans and everyone will ride his jock again.

I agree still.pissed about that. Softest fumble i ever seen

This is where I get in and piss everyone off by being positive.

1.
We're close. Weaton, Bell, and Brown are a great core on offense. This team moves the ball with ease, but needs to tighten up the little things. But all three of these guys make spectacular plays on the regular.

2.
Ben had a bad night, but did y'all see the throw that got called back? Man, he's still got that magic.

3. The defense was surprisingly stout at the goal line on a couple of occasions. We are limited schematically because we have too many new players at LB to really do the complex shifting and blitzing that made our D dangerous in the past. We're also protecting an aging secondary. As a result we're too vanilla. But we really just need to bend without breaking.

4. Coach Tomlin is a good coach. I know the politics, you hate him because he's the "Affirmative Action" coach. But you fire him after the season and his phone will be ringing with HC offers before he gets to the elevator. Yes, he's drafted poorly in the past. But this draft was a good one, but McCullers and Tuitt need time to develop.

5. Our season is not nearly over. We are the Ravens' Super Bowl every year. They hate us more than any other team, and more than we hate them. They play their whole season just to play us at home. That's probably the most effort they'll put out all year.

6. This may not be our year, but we really are just a few players away at this point. We got alot younger this off season, and will again next off season. Ben has at least 5 good seasons left in him. We're closer than the final score shows.

Y'all traitorous ************* want to give up on our squad after 1-1, then fine. Do that. But you just show what yellow bellied cowards you really are. Fake *** fair weather fans.

GO ******* STEELERS!

This message brought to you by the Steelers marketing dept.

The second half of the Browns game actually has me more concerned than last night's game. I don't put any stock in a Thursday night game played on the road. The home teams have won over 80% of all non-Thanksgiving Thursday night games. I expected the Steelers to lose this game on a short week and I expected the fans to panic afterwards.

I still think this is a 9-7, maybe 10-6 team. Last night changes nothing. Thursday night games are a joke, bad football all the way around. Ravens did not impress either. Four times inside the 10 and had to settle for FGs against a less than stellar Steelers defense. This season will be a roller coaster ride. Beat Carolina and start 2-1 and fans will be hopeful again.

Just saw this stat too road teams are 24-42 in thursday nite games since Uncle Roger started them..

I hate the Harbuaghs but you can tell they are in charge of everything, good or bad, that goes on with their teams. Tomlin is just along for the ride and clueless. It is no surprise that the Rats are 5-2 against the imbecile since 2011.

Whoa Whoa Whoa....

Isnt Jim Harbaugh only winning with Mike Singeltary's players?????

See how stupid that argument sounds?

Well, we are now playing mediocre (at best) football with Tomlin's players. He built what we have now and it's not impressive.

So.. my thoughts after that cluster ****; is it Sunday yet? Vikings have the Cheatriots in for a visit. Hope THEY don't let me down, can't take twice in one week.

See how stupid that argument sounds?

You can't compare the two. First off Singletary didn't win with them. Secondly, how many of them are still left? Third, did Singletary have any power in the draft at all? Unless you can answer those questions you can't compare them.

We know that Tomlin won with players that Cowher had a part in drafting. We know almost every player that started the SB in 08' were Cowher's. And the ones that weren't Cowher's sucked like Spaeth, Hartwig, and Stapleton. We also know that Cowher had a hand in drafting because of the dismissal of Donahoe and the power struggle there. So we can surmise that since Cowher's players are leaving the team is getting worse and the coach has failed to replace any of this talent.

I went to bed right after the field early in third. It looked like the O was moving the ball okay and the D was tightening up. I thought I was going to wake up to a 13-10 win or a 13-9 loss, it's just how these games go. I could have taken that 13-9 loss with oh well, it was in Baltimore, wait until they play in Pittsburgh. But, things got pathetic.

Oh, it's becoming clear that if the Steelers are going to do anything in a game, they better get all the points they need in the first half.

Up to a point, I was expecting a typical Steelers-Ravens game

Hey guys, I just woke up from a comma, when did we hire Rueben Amauro away from the Phillies as our GM. Extensions for everybody. 10 years for you, 10 years for you.........................and another ten years before we win another Super Bowl.

Sad times these are indeed, that was tough to watch last night. I'm gonna keep drinking the kool aid and hope the Steelers turn it around these next few games and make a season of it. So many little things have gone wrong, at so many positions, maybe they need a few games to work out the kinks. Having Dri Archer back won't hurt either. :) More importantly, they really need to get McCullers on the field, see if he can shore up that d line.

Yes Archer was missed last nite. Get well soon little guy

Two idiots I fought with about Tomlin this week and were so stupid I had to put them on ignore was SteelBuckeyes and SteelerinLebanon, can't wait to hear them make excuses and come suck the idiot Tomlin's dick.

Ignore me if you want, but I never said to not dislike him I only ever told you to stop being such a negative *** and have rational discussions. Looking at your above post you still can't. Name calling seems to be all you know how to do.

Tomlin made some poor decisions late in that game I never said he was perfect but I still do not lay all the blame at his feet. The players are well paid they should be ready for a game and were not. They should not need a coach to have to pump them up for a game like this. Tomlin did not cause the fumble that cost a shot at 7 and gave them 7. Tomlin is responsible for not going for it on fourth down and conceding the game at that point. I am not ready to dump him it is too early but he needs to step it up. Our defensive philosophy has to change and that is on a combination of Tomlin and Lebeau. We do not have the right players for a conservative bend don't break Defense we have to be aggressive and willing to risk big plays for turnovers not just give up big plays while being passive.

Those who claim it's too early/soon to move on from Tomlin.. that he's learning well as he goes.. that you see glimmers of hope in his coaching (where?).. that he deserves more time.. that anyone who wants to move on is irrational and has a knee-jerk opinion.. please note that only five head coaches have been in place longer than Tomlin. Only Belichick, Lewis, Coughlin, McCarthy, and Payton have been in place longer.

Whenever you're read, Field Goal Mike.

I am afraid what is needed at this point is to replace Lebeau. Replacing Tomlin does not change much at this point and who do you replace him with right now.. I have the ultimate respect for DL but he is not changing his philosophy to meet the changing rules of this league. Seeing as we are no longer allowed to hit anyone to stop a completion we need some highly skilled fast DB's who wont hit anyone and incur the wrath of the refs or commissioner. That is Colbert and to some degree Tomlin. We have tried to stay old school in a league that is now built for pansies.

Valid points.. but I And if I'm choosing between the best DC in history and Mike Tomlin, Tomlin loses.

As for replacing Tomlin, I can't think of anyone who could/would just jump in this week, so it's something I would do in the offseason. But I think there are (and have been in recent years) some great candidates coming available.

Do you think Butler could bend to the times or do you think we need a whole new crew. Talking Coordinator not head coach for now.

Butler has been the heir apparent to DL for a while now. What made everyone assume he was the man for the job was the FACT that our LBs were so damn good. This ALSO made DL look like the HOF coach he is/was.

What about now??? No Potsie, No Harrison or Joey Porter, No Woodley (pre-fatness), No Foote, No Timmons (better as a follower than calling plays)???

Nothing has passed DL or Butler up as far as the game is concerned, IMO. THEY JUST DON'T HAVE THE RIGHT PLAYERS!

I cannot believe I'm going to say this BUT Phil Simms (of all people) said it best last night during the broadcast..."who do the Steelers have on the outside that truly SCARE an offensive QB?"

Without consistent play from our LBs, our system doesn't work.

I'm not going to get into a debate as to who is responsible for the lousy personnel decisions BUT you cannot make soup with dishwater!

I am not 4-3 Fan but it seems we might be better suited personnel wise to moving that direction. Heyward and Tuitt might be decent in that scheme and put McCullers and Thomas or McClendon inside. Use Worlids on the end *** a pass rusher situationaly then let him go next year. Shazier, Timmons and Jones as your LB's. Troy deep safety with Thomas put Allen and Gay on the corners and pray that we get help next year that spot. Let Tomiln call the Defense for the rest of the year just to see if has any real ability. If he sucks more ammo to fire him if not he proves he is capable of coaching something.
