The offensive identity

This is a little deceiving. Brown's defender leaves him after the ball is thrown deep. It makes Brown seem more open than he actually was. The D would click and close on a pass directly to AB here.

Thats not true. Shuster's route puts the defender outside on Browns inside route he is trailing if the ball is out in front he has to make a hell of play

Whats wrong with coaches depending on the talent they have assembled on this team to win one on one matchups. The jaguars stacked the line of scrimmage and showed single high safety looks. Plays were called and plays were changed because of those looks. With the expectation that our QB WRs can and should beat their one on one matchups. This isnt 95 when we ran into 8 and 9 man fronts because we didnt trust Kordell. This is Ben and we trust that he can make reads and make throws that Franchise QBs make. Plays were left on the field either due to missed blocks, on the first pick Connor was late picking up the blitz causing Ben to be hit. And people wonder why Bell doesnt come off the field. The gif above shows James not doing his job and providing interference for Bell to have a chance to score. These are little things that hurt the offense.

This play was changed at the line of scrimmage. Ben audibled to this play. He never comes off Brown watch Ju Ju

This is what gets to me.

Ben has always changed the plays in the RZ and in short yardage. Which is why its so hard for me to ***** about Haley.

Hell. Even IF Haley called that play, why would Ben decide to throw to a guy that was clearly being blanketed???

When again he stays on his pre snap primary and never scans the field. Ju ju is coming open and running to a spot between the LBs

Ben does not have free reign to change every play, Tomlin has said this before.

Do you have access to the game?

Ben has been focusing on AB since game 1. I understand AB getting 10 targets or so a game but Ben needs to scan the field, make his progresssions and get the ball to the best WR. If Bryant is in single coverage on a go route, you probably should be throwing to him. So far, we have gotten 2 PI calls and a handful of overthrown balls to him. Those 2 need to start to click. And, we should not have Bryant running short routes. That's what JuJu and Rogers are for. That's what James if for. Get rid of Vance. The dude hasn't caught a ball yet and he's our highest paid TE. WTF was that all about? Another dumbass move on a TE. James is playing well so use him. And, bring Bell out of the backfield. Enough of the lining him up outside. We did that last year out of necessity due to injuries. We have enough WR's and TE's now that we should always have a RB in the backfield - always.

Add that the OLine needs to play alot better, when we did try to run the ball vs the worst defense we couldn't, and at least one guy on the OLine gets bull rushed into the pocket on what seems like every pass attempt

Agree. If the OL plays better these first five games, we are looking at a different team. Munchak had done such a good job with them before, and Hubbard didn't play this bad last year, but he didn't have to play as much either, I don't think. Very confusing. Jax's D is pretty good at getting to the QB, so that may not be an appropriate measuring stick.

As I stated in the other thread, the idea that the O needs and "identity" is silly. I don't know if it is a fan made-up idea or some sportscaster with too much time. If Ben doesn't play well, it will be hard to win games. The D held us in this game for a very long time. The O needs to pull its weight and, if the OL gets its **** together, I think you see an immediate change.

Imagine the situation Tomlin's in. He doesn't even have talent and he doesn't put the work in.

There's not even a cliff to drop off...

Question if changing the call is the right read why would the coach stop him..just becasue the play wasnt executed doesnt mean it wasnt the right read or decision to change it.

When it happens over and over and over, the coach needs to make a change. I'll ask again, what do you consider Tomlin's responsibilities?

What coach in the league is sitting Big Ben or Rogers or Brady?? If the read is correct if the justification is there to make the change but the execution is off what coach is sitting there franchise QB?

Please answer the question. What are Tomlin's responsibilities? I'm not talking about solely in relation to Ben or the plays you showed. What are his responsibilities as a head coach?

Answered already to you. And why not those plays show its about guys we are paying alot of money to make plays. That there are plays there to be made. Isnt that a coaches job to put his team in position to make plays. So they can win? And when its your stars your main players doing the ******* up no coach sits down established players. You keep calling the plays and hope they play better..

Take, for example, when the offense committed its only turnover of the game on a sack/fumble that Roethlisberger took from a cornerback blitz.

It was 3rd-and-8 and the Bears blitzed two additional players from the right side of the offensive line. Hubbard picks up the most inside man on the blitz, but nobody could stop the cornerback as he overloaded that side of the offense.

However one of the best ways to counter the blitz is to target your pass to the area the blitz vacated on defense. That left Eli Rogers, Jesse James and Bryant all in space with only two defenders between the three of them to cover an entire half of the field.

Watch Roethlisberger’s head and how he never even looks to his right and notice the Bears’ blitz, nor his open receivers:

And its not just Ben look at Foster. This is against a 6 man front. This cant happen.

All it takes in football is for one player to not complete his assignment and a play can be destroyed. That happened with Nix in the above play, and again with Ramon Foster on the play below:

Watch how Foster’s job is to seal No. 90, defensive end Jonathan Bullard, to the inside and give David DeCastro a large enough hole to work through and lead block for Bell to follow. Bullard gets under Foster’s pad level, using his leverage and arm extension to push Foster closer to the hole, closing the space needed for DeCastro to attack and lead the way. Foster comes high out of his stance and is never able to recover.

The Steelers’ front has been losing these kinds of battles here and there in each of their first three games. While some, or even most of the offensive line can win their battles, if one person fails, the entire plan can crumble.

When did you answer what Tomlin's responsibilities are? Forgive me if I missed it, could you please restate it? What are Tomlin's, or if it's easier, any head coach's responsibilities? I'm not talking about individual plays, but in general.

I don't think anybody is absolving the players of their responsibilities. Ben SUCKED this week, and he was far and away the #1 reason we lost. No debate. But I'd really like to know what you hold a head coach accountable for.

You have asked and i have answered at least twice

Then it shouldn't be hard to answer it again. Obviously, I missed it, forgive me. Please be kind enough to answer again.

To prepare and put his team in position to win football games. Which Tomlin has done more often then not. Just because the offense doesnt come out and score on its first drive or if the defense gives up a TD on its first doesnt mean they werent prepared. But thats what you hear. Make adjustments. Last week we started the third quarter in the no huddle and drove down the field but we only got a FG. Mostly because of the two plays illustrated already.

I realize Tomlin's teams have a history of losing games they shouldn't lose, but I just think back to him entering the locker room after the win in Baltimore beseeching his team to remain steady and focus on "a hot J'ville team coming to town. They whacked these guys worse than we did. Let's get ready to work." Dealing with success as a favorite has been a problem, but not due to being fat and unfocused.

Thats Tomlin moments after the Ravens game telling the team to get ready for the Jaguars..doesnt sound like he was over looking them. The steelers started 4-5 last year and the Coaches made defensive position changes and offensive philosophy changes that led to a 9 game winning streak. And all the bashers never said a word. But when they were 4-5 they wanted all the coaches fired. And i never credited it to the coaches i simply said what i always say THE PLAYERS EXCUTED AND PLAYED BETTER.

Here is another opportunity wasted. Hubbard allows pressure. Ju Ju beats Ramsey. Ben has no time to take advantage.
