As a special teams guy. He has been awesome in that department. Any team could use a player like this.

Don't get me wrong, I still think he's marginal as a defensive linebacker, but on Special Teams, his energy, effort, and awareness and out.

And Steve Tasker was a marginal wide receiver, and that's putting it nicely.

Dirty Red playin' hard on ST...gotta love the grit.

After just 2 games? Let's wait until the end of the season before we start pimping him for the meaningless Pro Bowl.

People have been under estimating big red his entire football playing career. It continues here though he is a smart player.

He was making big gold line stops in preseason. So I would like to see what he can do in the regular season as well.

For a slow *** LB he has a great way of always being around the ball making plays.

He is the perfect reminder that a high football IQ and great instincts at the MLB/ILB positions are as important than measurables. You have to read things so quickly there that the smart player will often play faster than the great athlete who has to stand there for a second to figure out where he's running.

This is why Sean Lee is so great. He won't win any races but he immediately knows where he need to be and gets there. Watch a game and he's all over anything in the middle.

Ray Lewis talked about how late in his career, he was nowhere as fast as he used to be but he was still making plays because he was smarter and read the play quicker. It was like getting a head start.

That's what i saw from Matakevich in college. Tremendous instincts, so i didn't care how he tested. You also have to consider what the steelers need at that position. They have Shazier. They don't need another crazy athlete. They need a guy who will always be in the right spot.

Actually, Tasker was hard to cover as a receiver. Jim Kelly used to " bet " people they can't cover him in camp.

He blocked a punt that lead to a score and was Johnny on the spot in a fake pass on 4th down. Who else has done better on special teams in the AFC? Rudy is the front runner for the pro bowl as the ST man.

He also missed the gap and got run over by a rookie QB on a goal line stand. Other than that 44 has been solid role player.

Quit calling him Rudy. Rudy was nothing. Red has some game.

I'm not trying to knock Dirty Red Coach. Just saying it's a long season and we've just begun.
Start this talk in December if Dirty Red is still playing ST at a high level, then start your campaign for a Pro Bowl.

Back then it was legal to hit WRs so little guys like Tasker may have been hard to cover in practice but in games they'd get knocked out. Guys like Welker and Edelman never would have made it 15 years ago.

I heard they are considering him for the hall of fame
