GOAL line Defense weak?

Now Tomlin is responsible for injuries and playing guys over doctor orders.

Tomlin picks who starts, who gets x amount of snaps, and who is inactive for the games. Do you disagree with this? Speak up, my guess is no.

I'm sure Tomlin gets coloration from the doctors, and the players, but in the end, he has the power to rest a guy if he wants to.

Why don't you think about what you are saying.......you seem to think Tomlin made Dupree wait to have surgery. No, the player makes the decision whether to have any medical procedure as recommended by the team doctors. Logically the head coach doesn't recommend any type of medical protocol. The team doctors do.

>>> That is not what I am saying!. Tomlin could have rested him and kept him out of drills for camp. As it was Dupree re-injured himself, and it cost the Steelers time.

So to answer your question, Yes having the procedure earlier probably would have provided the opportunity for 48 to not be on IR when 2016 started.

>>> Very good, so you admit Tomlin mishandled the situation. Pretty hard to argue with hindsight. Tomlin could have kept Bud out of camp / drills. Groin injuries can linger, unwise to rush a player back especially in camp and the pre-season.

" A groin injury has plagued Dupree through training camp and the preseason, which apparently required surgery to fix. "

According to the various reports, namely Tuitt himself, he didn't suffer a torn bicep. And who is rushing him back? Tomlin sat him from practice. How is that rushing him?

>>> Tomlin can sit him for the next game if he wants to. And if Tuitt needed more time and causes more dame to his muscle, it's on Tomlin for not doing it. That is what I am saying.

How has Tomlin mismanaged Bell's injuries?

>>He rides him too much, and Bell wears down. Didn't Bell say he was injured before the playoffs last season? Why not use Williamsor someone else a bit more if that was the case, keeping Bell fresh for a game that really matters like the playoffs?

Tomlin says he is a denigrate gambler? Link for this please. Denigrate (criticizing) gambler? What is that? Or do you just pick words and not understand what they mean?

>>>Sure I can. Tomlin has said this multiple times and has said it when he should have kicked a FG rather than going for it.

"I am a degenerate gambler," Tomlin said yesterday, then nodded toward Colbert sitting next to him. "This guy has to talk me off the ledge. We will see what happens. I am impulsive by nature. He's got a lot more patience than I do. I am going to detail my training camp schedule while we are waiting to pick 32nd."

So there you have it, Tomlin is a degenerate gambler, and he does in fact push players back too soon when injured.

I dont care what anyone says something is wrong with you

Williams was hurt last year and if you watched games and not the gamecast you would know this

Your propensity to attempt to absolve Tomlin from any blame is unparalleled here.

1 ) Unless the player is ruled out, Tomlin can play them. Sometimes it would have been wiser to rest them. 20.20 stuff. That was my point. If you have a key man injured, rushing him back is not always wise.

2 ) What the team doctor says can differ from a 3rd party doctor and the pressure of the head coach to play. And most players will yield to what the head coach wants as time in the NFL is limited, and injured players or who aren't taking one for the team are usually frowned upon.

Nothing is wrong here, I have the ability to objective criticize my own team when they make mistakes, who in my opinion underachieves and plays sloppy ball more than their talent would indicate.

Point and case, NEVER have just two DL players when you're close to your own goal line.

You go out way covering for players or coaches who make mistakes and criticize others who question the Steelers often without acknowledging given points made that are true. Then for some reason, I'll never understand you get hot over the issue.

At the very least, you now know that the coaches were wrong on a play that leads to a score in a close game, and our head coach admits to being a degenerate gambler when it comes to football decisions.

So why are you the only person in the world to have this thought that Tomlin is at fault for Bud Dupree last year. With all these blogs websites etc the only suggestion of this is by you?

You havent made any factual point. The facts are using that same defense they held the Browns to 57 yards(?) So if it worked for most of the game it leads me to believe it could of worked on that play.

Bud Dupree: ‘I’m Going To Push The Issue So I Can Play This Week’

BY MATTHEW MARCZI SEPTEMBER 14, 2017 AT 06:20 AM

Woody Allen once said that if you want to make God laugh, you should tell him about your plans. That is to say, you can make plans all you want, but ultimately you only have so much control over whether or not that plan will actually come together the way it was intended.

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker Bud Dupree had big plans for his third season, and a big part of that plan was staying healthy. Then, he says, he ran into David DeCastro trying to execute a stunt during training camp and injured his shoulder. “I ran right into him”, he told Joe Rutter. “Perfect spot, perfect hit”.

Since then, he has been in and out of practice. Though he was good enough to go during the Steelers’ third preseason game, he was also expected to go for the previous game but, despite dressing, did not play.

There was concern over whether or not he would play during the season opener as well, but he told reporters he expected he would. “That was the plan going into the game”, said. He practiced on a limited basis last Thursday, but then finished out the week sitting out on Friday, and ultimately did not dress.

He said after Sunday’s game that he was told when he arrived at the facilities that he would not be playing. “I was sent to get a second opinion, and it was more than [we thought] it was”, he said. But he added, “next week I’ll be out there and deal with the pain”.

“I’m going to push the issue so I can play this week”.

While it would certainly be a boost to get him not only back in the lineup but also operating at full capacity, the Steelers managed to do well with Anthony Chickillo starting in his place. Drafted the same year as Dupree, only in the sixth round rather than the first, he recorded two sacks against the Browns for the first multi-sack game of his career.

During the first half of last season, Chickillo was rotating with Arthur Moats at the left outside linebacker position while Dupree was on injured reserve recovering from sports hernia surgery. After a few games, he passed Moats and ended up starting until Dupree was activated to the 53-man roster.

As well as he played in his first game of the 2017 season—and I know there is a not insignificant segment of the fan base that is still kind of pushing for him to be in the starting lineup—however, Dupree is going to be seen as ‘the guy’ until he shows that he is not.

That could come either through his on-field play or through his inability to stay on the field, both of which were issues for Jarvis Jones. Dupree is seeing his season impacted by injury before it even began for the second year in a row. How will he look when he does get on the field?

Yeah it sounds like Tomlin is pushing him to play

This is why so many on this board challenge you Coach. You say you understand the game, but all you do watching clips or the game itself is to follow the ball during the play. You don't follow the ball you look at the formations and identify the assignments. Then determine if the players followed their assignment.

This was the right defense was called, but Golden bailed his gap at the snap when he didn't need to. Crowell walks in practically untouched because no one was in the gap...which was Golden's responsibility not #98. Williams was right where he was supposed to be to protect his gap and cover the underneath. In fact he did a good job trying to get there from the opposite position. Golden had no reason to drop into coverage because Crowell didn't go in motion or run the parallel flat.

And also note, that was Golden's ONLY defensive snap. Never saw another one even though Wilcox was out. So the missed assignment was noticed.

One day you'll learn about feeding the animals around here...

Well, nit picking doesn't seem to matter much when you win. People forget about it.

We beat the Browns via narrow margin and had a blocked punt TD score being the difference. The team was undisciplined as a whole.

Had we lost then deploying 2 DL players only in a goal line situation would have been a more visible issue.

I say it's an issue now, and wonder if any reporter asked Tomlin this question. Does anyone know? When someone asked what type of questions would I ask the coaches after a game this one would be one.

The coaching staff needs to put the players in the best position to win, and IMO they did not on this touchdown play against the defense.

Who is this "we" you speak of??? Do you own the team? Member of the front office? Coaching staff? Medical staff?

Oh wait, you're a fan...just like the rest of us.

Bermuda I understand it well....I don't mind some of the questions Coach brings to this form, a long as they aren't attention seeking or agenda based because he thinks he knows more than professionals who've done it far longer than his arm chair criticisms. The condescending attitude of his belief is right regardless of factual indicators is comedic gold though.

Or it's something simple as trying to pad his post counts.

Fans should be able to say " We " when referring to the team they root for. Do you disagree?

There is a reason why the Steelers do better at home and one big reason why is the FANS.

You continue to play checkers, while I'm playing chess.
