Steelers trade for Vance McDonald

the one report I read had Johnson of having the most steady camp out of all the TE's. Not sure he will be as a easy cut as some might perceive.

Johnson has the advantage of being able to play at FB and TE. I think Grimble/James have more upside (notwithstanding this camp's performance) than Johnson. Johnson is better here than he was his first time around, but I think he is pretty limited. Plus, he is 30. Probably, not as big a deal as it would be for other positions, but when you have decent youth a the position, I'd lean toward moving on.

I personally am a big fan of Grimble and his ability, James...not so much. This Vance McDonald, from what I was reading is that he wasn't that well liked of a player amongst the fans but you can't put too much worth into that being that he came from the land of fruits and nuts out in San Fran. I like his upside from what very little evidence has been shown of it. McDonald, Grimble and Johnson in a goal line package...could be devastating.

Johnson may be position flexible, but why carry 2 FBs/4TEs when you have a FB in Nix who is better, and 3 TEs that are currently better. This may be Johnson's cut day.

maybe

But if Vance does everything Grimble can do better...

I agree, but Grimble gives you more as a recieving TE than Johnson. If Johnson is a pure blocker, just throw Nix out there on running downs. Problem solved.

DJ fights for the ball however limited he is athletically, he showed sure hands this preseason too

I'm hoping Grimble isn't cut either. That guy has some serious upside. Johnson though is very versatile and that's what may keep him. Defenses would **** bricks splitting James, McDonald and Grimble out wide...Damn auto correct keeps trying to spell McDonald E-I-E-I-O

I'd rather have situational packages of WRs than splitting out TEs.

EZ: Hunter, JuJu, AB, Bryant
Deep balls: DHB, AB, Bryant, Coates
Possession AB, Eli, JuJu, Hunter

I honestly won't be surprised if we become a No Huddle Pass first team this year. Bell would be the most versatile back to ever be in this type of system. Jeff George was the best RB ever for a run and shoot offense, and Bell eclipses his ability.
