Josh Dobbs. Fools gold or worth the wait?

Based on the last two games, I would rather have Landry Jones. At least Landry Jones has won a regular season game or two. Dobbs keeps turning it over to grocery baggers.

He's nothing more than a backup QB, and he will need time to develop.

Developing a back up QB? Need to be developing Ben's replacement, not some sorry back up. Sheesh.

That's kind of where I'm leaning but the jury is still VERY much out at this point. We are talking one camp and 2 pre season games here people. I know we love those snap decisions but this may be a bit much.

How many Franchise QB's do you realistically think you are gonna find in the 4th Round? Not many. Hell it's tough to find one in the 1st round if you are drafting near the bottom all the time. It happens but the chances are much less. The only reason we got Ben is because we sucked *** the year before and were drafting way earlier than normal.

The classic part is Antdeew omits full data. Though 16 practices Josh Dobb's Camp stats are thus:

110-192 57.3% completions, 15 TD 5 Interceptions.

I'm sorry but 57.3% in camp is very poor, and Dobbs five interceptions almost equals the total that Ben, Landry Jones, and Houston have thrown ( 6 )

My bad i didnt intentionally omit anything just posted those stats because they were the first recap post when I scrolled down.
Josh Dobbs: 110/192 (57.3%) 15 TDs 5 INTs

Bart Houston: 66/119 (55.5%) 7 TDs 4 INTs

Now you trying to paint the picture that Houston ints thrown has been better then dobbs by including his total with Ben and Landry is intentionally misleading. Dobbs has only thrown one more interception then Houston with 73 more attempts.

Do you really think I believe they drafted Dobson with the Franchise in mind? LOL. No, they aren't all Dak Prescott, that is for sure.

Point is, do you really want to waste time to develop a back up, when a back up with NFL experience can be had for peanuts? Use that pick on something else. Maybe a package to move up and get a guy you like that COULD be something more than a developmental back up QB. Back up quarterbacks are back ups for a reason. Developmental backups usually end up on a practice squad or somewhere else. Didn't care for the pick at the time, and he has done nothing on the field to make me like it anymore.

Ummm ... might i point out its two preseason games into his nfl career... no he hasn't looked good but can we please wait at least till he throws a pass in the nfl for real before we crucify him lol

Put me in the fools gold category. He's not even accurate in camp, has poor reads, and turns the ball over too often.

Quarterback

Josh Dobbs: 33/52 (63.5%) 3 TDs 2 INTs
Bart Houston: 25/46 (54.3%) 1 TD 0 INT
Ben Roethlisberger: 12/19 (63.2%) 4 TDs 0 INTs

Why is anyone using training camp stats to prove anything? The only thing that probably matters less in sports coverage is what shoes guys are wearing.

Dobbs look every bit like a 3rd string qb. The steelers might be wise to draft another qb next year. Dobbs is very inaccurate.

Said it before, I'll say it again. If he wasn't accurate in college, where receivers tend to be usually open by 2 to 3 steps, he definitely wont be accurate in the NFL. He was a wasted pick. He has career stat lines of 14-25 for 160 yards 1 TD, 2 INTs written all over him.

I've watched both games, and Josh Dobbs is hot garbage.

Forced to choose between him and Landry Jones, I'd just run the Wildcat 100% of the time.

He's a fourth round pick and plays like it. We need a bigger investment in our next QB.

Houston is a camp arm, and rookie free agent. Dobbs a 4th round pick who has taken the majority of the snaps.

In the pre-season games, Dobbs has more turnovers than Houston does.

Neither look like good 3rd QB's. In both pre-season games the other 3rd string QB had better qb's rating than ours.

Botton line, Dobbs is not accurate, has issues reading a defense, and is too turnover prone. If the Steelers head a do over on the pick, I suspect they would draft someone else.

I think this link best sums it up. To date here are the QB's and passer ratings of various quarterbacks in the pre-season.

Hobbs is dead last on the list, and to be honest there are other QB's who rated higher, at least in a qb passer rating that did not throw enough to quality. ( 14 pass attempts per team game ) Needed to rate.

Good lord! I saw an article saying the Steelers should sign Kaperdork. No way in hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The dude is not on a team because he sucks and is a poor leader not because of the color of his skin.

is RG3 still out there? He has to be better than Dobbs and possibly LJ. For a back-up to Ben, I'd kick his tires.

If it was regular season, qb rating might actually mean something. When you have some guys playing against 1st and wnd stringers and others playing against grocery clerks, well, that skews results.

Cripes almighty, glad you aren't a front office employee. You've figured out the career path of a kid who thrown 30 passes in the preseason. Forget about the fact he's playing against some first team defenses without some 1st team players on offense, nor has there been any game planning. He's the 3rd team QB, not the heir apparent to Ben. He's looked at as the future back up at the least.

He may end up like Dixon, Omar Jacobs or Tee Martin, but could turn out like a poor mans Wilson, Tyrod Taylor or Prescott. It's preseason, he's a rookie playing the most difficult position on the field. Relax, eat another snack cake from your recliner.

Remember when Landry Jones led the league in preseason yardage? That translated well...

Kaepernick is significantly better than any QB on the Steelers roster not named Roethlisberger and was voted by his teammates as the Len Eshmont award winner, given to the 49er who "best exemplifies the inspirational and courageous play of Len Eshmont."

LOL, Wilson, and Prescott showed good ability right out of the gate. Our guy has not impressed in camp and is dead last at the QB rating this pre-season. You can not sink any lower.

I am not saying cut Dobbs now. He's our 3rd best Qb by default, however the Steelers might want to look at the wavier wire in the final cuts.

PS: If I had the say we do not draft Dobbs at all. And we would not have picked Golson either. I also wanted a DB over JU-JU to win while Ben was here, and we'll see how that ends up.

I did like the Pitt Qb ( Peterman ) a bit better. He went to Buffalo, I think.
