Donald Trump taking zero salary to serve this country.

Trump donates three-month salary to Department of Education

President Donald Trump is donating his second-quarter salary to the Department of Education.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders says Trump chose to give the department $100,000. His first-quarter salary donation went to the Department of Interior.

"It's that time again, as many of you have probably noticed, for us to announce where the president will be donating his quarterly salary," Sanders said Wednesday during the daily White House press briefing. "This quarter the president will be donating his salary to the Department of Education."

Education Secretary Betsy DeVos says the donation is being used to pay for a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) camp sponsored by the department.

As a candidate, Trump had promised not to take a salary if elected. But by law he must be paid, so he is donating the money. Taxpayers can write off such donations, potentially lowering their income taxes.

DeVos says she is grateful for the donation.

"The president is committed to our nation’s students, and to reforming education in America so that every child, no matter their ZIP code, has access to a high-quality education," she said after receiving the check from Sanders during the briefing.

The Trump administration has also proposed a 13 percent cut to the Education Department's budget, slashing it by $9.2 billion.

White House calls for ‘thorough investigation’ of Debbie Wasserman Schultz staffer scandal

The White House called Thursday for a thorough investigation related to the arrest of an IT staffer for Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz who remained on the job and with congressional computer access for about five months after FBI began investigating him for fraud.

“I do think it is something we should fully look into and there should be a thorough investigation,” said White House press secretary Sarah Sanders. Mrs. Wasserman Schultz, former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee, fired the staffer, Pakistan-born Imran Awan, after he was arrested Monday at Dulles Airport outside Washington trying to flee the country.

House of Representatives boosts military spending, gives Trump border wall money

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Thursday approved a $68 billion increase in military spending next year with legislation that also provides money to start construction of President Donald Trump's Mexican border wall.

The beefed up defense spending would allow the Pentagon to continue military activities in Iraq, Afghanistan and other trouble spots and hire more troops while providing soldiers with a 2.4 percent pay raise.

It also would allow the Pentagon to undertake a shopping spree with money to buy ships and submarines, aircraft, tanks and other big-ticket items.

U.S. coal exports soar, in boost to Trump energy agenda

WASHINGTON/LONDON (Reuters) - U.S. coal exports have jumped more than 60 percent this year due to soaring demand from Europe and Asia, according to a Reuters review of government data, allowing President Donald Trump's administration to claim that efforts to revive the battered industry are working.

The increased shipments came as the European Union and other U.S. allies heaped criticism on the Trump administration for its rejection of the Paris Climate Accord, a deal agreed by nearly 200 countries to cut carbon emissions from the burning of fossil fuels like coal.

They included a surge to several European countries during the 2017 period, including a 175 percent increase in shipments to the United Kingdom, and a doubling to France - which had suffered a series of nuclear power plant outages that required it and regional neighbors to rely more heavily on coal.

"If Europe wants to lecture Trump on climate then EU member states need transition plans to phase out polluting coal," said Laurence Watson, a data scientist working on coal at independent think tank Carbon Tracker Initiative in London.

Not so fast Spike. Before we sell too much of that black gold, maybe we should look a little harder at the 'green' agenda. This article makes a point that if valid, could make that coal stuff a lot more valuable. I always wondered why we never saw a cost analysis on what it actually costs to operate an electric car. Now I may know why....

note; that this is an unsigned 'opinion' piece in my judgement but all I could find in rebuttal were cost-benefit pieces that fluffed anti-fossil fuel, Bloomburg stuff. It's still a debatable argument at any rate.

At a neighborhood BBQ I was talking to a neighbor, a BC Hydro executive. I asked him how that renewable thing was doing. He laughed, then got serious. If you really intend to adopt electric vehicles, he pointed out, you had to face certain realities. For example, a home charging system for a Tesla requires 75 amp service.

The average house is equipped with 100 amp service. On our small street (approximately 25 homes), the electrical infrastructure would be unable to carry more than 3 houses with a single Tesla, each. For even half the homes to have electric vehicles, the system would be wildly over-loaded.

This is the elephant in the room with electric vehicles ... Our residential infrastructure cannot bear the load. So as our genius elected officials promote this nonsense, not only are we being urged to buy the damn things and replace our reliable, cheap generating systems with expensive, new windmills and solar cells, but we will also have to renovate our entire delivery system! This latter "investment" will not be revealed until we're so far down this dead-end road that it will be presented with an oops and a shrug.

If you want to argue with a green person over cars that are eco-friendly, just read the following:

Note: If you ARE a green person, read it anyway. Enlightening.

Eric test drove the Chevy Volt at the invitation of General Motors...and he writes...For four days in a row, the fully charged battery lasted only 25 miles before the Volt switched to the reserve gasoline engine. Eric calculated the car got 30 mpg including the 25 miles it ran on the battery. So, the range including the 9-gallon gas tank and the 16 kwh battery is approximately 270 miles.

It will take you 4 1/2 hours to drive 270 miles at 60 mph. Then add 10 hours to charge the battery and you have a total trip time of 14.5 hours. In a typical road trip your average speed (including charging time) would be 20 mph.

According to General Motors, the Volt battery holds 16 kwh of electricity. It takes a full 10 hours to charge a drained battery. The cost for the electricity to charge the Volt is never mentioned so I looked up what I pay for electricity. I pay approximately (it varies with amount used and the seasons) $1.16 per kwh. 16 kwh x $1.16 per kwh = $18.56 to charge the battery. $18.56 per charge divided by 25 miles = $0.74 per mile to operate the Volt using the battery. Compare this to a similar size car with a gasoline engine that gets only 32 mpg. $3.19 per gallon divided by 32 mpg = $0 . 10 per mile.

The gasoline powered car costs about $15,000 while the Volt costs $46,000........So the American Government wants loyal Americans not to do the math, but simply pay 3 times as much for a car, that costs more than 7 times as much to run, and takes 3 times longer to drive across the country.....

This is the "gorilla in the room" with electric vehicles; we would need lots more power plants to supply the required electricity to charge everyone's car. Our residential infrastructure is just part of the costs. Can you imagine how much a KW of electricity would cost then? Not just to run your car, but for lights, laundry, heating & cooling, etc!!!!!

So lets see...still no impeachment and the Dems are preparing to get hammered in the 2018 elections

Pelosi: 'Unimportant' to win midterm elections

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) on Sunday said it is “unimportant” for Democrats to win the midterm elections in 2018.

Democrats sought to make several special elections earlier this year a referendum on President Trump's first several months in office, but Republicans managed to hold onto all of the seats vacated by the president's Cabinet nominees.

More Winning – Foggy Bottom Begins Self-Draining as “Desperate” Career Diplomats Quit

A pearl-clutching op-ed in the New York Times declares the hurt sensibilities within the State Department are leading to multiple people quitting

Specifically citing the different managerial strategy of Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, and the priorities of the entire Dept. of State mission being reset, the career bureaucrats are dropping like flies

An exodus is underway. Those who have departed include Nancy McEldowney, the director of the Foreign Service Institute until she retired last month, who described to me “a toxic, troubled environment and organization”; Dana Shell Smith, the former ambassador to Qatar, who said what was most striking was the “complete and utter disdain for our expertise”; and Jake Walles, a former ambassador to Tunisia with some 35 years of experience. “There’s just a slow unraveling of the institution,” he told me.

A push to eliminate some 2,300 jobs; the vacancy of many senior posts, including 20 of the 22 assistant secretary positions requiring Senate confirmation; unfilled ambassadorships — roughly 30 percent of the total — from Paris to New Delhi; and the brushoff of the department’s input in interagency debate and in pivotal decisions, like withdrawal from the Paris climate accord. Days are now marked by resignations, unanswered messages and idled capacity.

The reasons for this dismemberment are unclear. Is it punishment for Hillary Clinton’s department? Or an extreme iteration of the “deconstruction of the administrative state”

Remember when all those polls came out a week ago showing Trump with historic low job approval numbers? Well the response here was bloody murder. "Fake news!" "Those are slanted, liberal biased polls!" "Check the Rasmussen poll, that's the real, legitimate poll." "Look at the Rasmussen poll, that'll show you what's really going on." "The Rasmussen poll, that's where it's at."

Okay, let's do that.

Trump drops to new low in Rasmussen poll
http://thehill.com/business-a-lobbying/344610-trump-drops-to-new-low-in-rasmussen-poll

President Trump's approval rating has dropped to a new low, according to a conservative-leaning pollster that has consistently given Trump better marks than other polls.

Trump's approval fell to 39 percent Monday, according to Rasmussen Reports — the first time his approval has dipped below 40 percent in the conservative poll. The poll showed him with a disapproval rating of 61 percent.

The conservative poll has generally shown approval ratings higher than those of other surveys, but the new poll places it in line with the findings of other surveys like Gallup, which has Trump's approval at 38 percent.

Fran Coombs, the managing editor of Rasmussen Reports, said Trump’s approval rating has been trending downwards over the past couple of weeks before the president’s numbers reached a new low Monday.

Where has Trump's support gone? Reading this board, and this thread in particular, you'd think everything was just fine. Sounds like some people around here are fooling themselves.

US stocks open higher, Dow nears 22,000

U.S. stocks opened higher on Tuesday, the first trading day of August, as the Dow Jones industrial average approached another milestone.

The 30-stock index rose about 90 points at the open to a new record, with Goldman Sachs contributing the most gains. The Dow also traded near 22,000. The S&P 500 rose 0.2 percent, with real estate and financials leading advancers. The Nasdaq composite climbed 0.2 percent.

Dow futures briefly signaled the index would break above 22,000 for the first time. The Dow is coming off its strongest monthly performance since February, having risen 2.54 percent. Shares of Boeing contributed the lions share of the gains, adding more than 300 points to the index.

The Dow, along with the Nasdaq and the S&P, notched record highs in July as investors shrugged off news of the turmoil in Washington as well as geopolitical tensions. The White House is once again on Wall Street's radar after the recently appointed communications director Anthony Scaramucci was fired on Monday. He was in the position for 10 days.

"The market wanted to go up and did, posting five new closing highs in July, as it continued to watch the Floor, rather than the man or groups in Washington," Howard Silverblatt, senior Index analyst at S&P Dow Jones Indices.
