Draft Grades

Cleveland C+
I know they had some solid picks but look at how many they had. For that many picks, i don't think they got nearly as much as they could have.

They still need playmakers on offense and Njoku was their only pick aside from a RD 7 RB. I think they are still trying to tank to get high picks. Why else would you seem to intentionally avoid skill players and let Pryor leave when you have cap room?

Cincy C+

I think the John Ross pick was bad. He's just speed. I'm not sure he'll survive and if he does, I'm not sure Dalton is good enough to take advantage of him. They already have AJ Green as a deep threat but he's tall and brings down jump balls. Ross needs to be hit when he's wide open.

Their OL has problems and they didn't really fix that. Mixon might end up being a stud but the OL is not as good as it has been.

They got Willis and Lawson at OLB but do they even fit their defense? If they aren't switcing to a 3-4 then I don't see the fit. They had Harrison a few years ago and they barely played him.

Baltimore B
They added Bowser, Wormley, and Tim WIlliams which accounts for the B, but the rest is nothing special. I think Humphrey is an overrated CB. He looks like all the other Bama CBs who struggle in the NFL. They bully college WRs with press coverage but in the NFl they get torched. They made their defense better.

But what about the offense? Not much. They still need playmakers and didn't get any. Unless Perriman has a breakout season, the raven offense will likely stink again this year.

I'm glad to hear that from somebody, even if its from a fan. Because everyone and their brother gave the Stains an A or A+

All you who have the Pats, the Rats, or Cowboys as your #1 team to hate, just wait till the Stains start winning.

The stains must be kept down with our foot firmly planted on their necks for all eternity.

Baltimore A-

Marlon Humphrey CB Alabama - A
Good value and fills a need.

Tyus Bowser OLB Houston - B+
Physically one of the most talented edge guys coming out of college but one year production makes you wonder if the light bulb just came on or he's going to wait until his contract year and then have a 10+ sack season just to turn it off once he gets paid. Motor and heart questions for me.

Chris Wormley DL Michigan - A
Very good value here. Should push for playing time right away and I don't doubt he starts in a year or two.

Tim Williams OLB Alabama - B+
There was talk about Williams with our first round pick. He has a ton of talent but motor and character are concerns. They likely are the reason he fell this far is his off the field issues but if they can get him on the straight and narrow he might end up being a steal.

Nico Siragusa OG San Diego St - B+
A good value for a power interior lineman.

Jermaine Eluemunor OG Texas A&M - B
I am not quite sure he will make their 53 man but he definitely puts some competition at the interior line. Has all the tools to be a OT so if they can coach him up maybe they can turn him into a all pro. Or he isn't on the team in 2 years. But good value.

Chuck Clark S VT - B-
Clark reminds me a little of Ryan Clark. Probably your in the box safety but he can track and tackle so worst case I feel he's a special teamer and backup.

Cincy C

John Ross WR Washington - B
I don't think they needed to go up and get Ross but I guess if he's your guy you do it. Elite speed but durability concerns. I feel he's a lot like Ted Ginn Jr. as worst case scenario you bring him in to take the top off a defense to open up the middle and he''s a helluva return man. Of course there's a lot less returns now than when Ginn was drafted.

Joe Mixon RB Oklahoma - F
Talented? Yes. Woman BEATER? Yes. Ray Rice 2.0 and he is out of the league because of what he did but Cincy rewards Mixon as a second round pick. I knew he'd get drafted I just hoped it would be round 7.

Jordan Willis DE Kansas - B+
I read people thinking we'd take Willis in round one. I didn't believe it but I felt he was an option in round 3. Has some skills but is a little straight lined.

Carl Lawson DE Auburn - A
Injury concerns or not this is a very good value pick. Willis and Lawson might be something to worry about in a year or two.

Josh Malone WR Tennessee - B
Speedy receiver who never lived up to the hype. Boom or bust pick and this late is not a bad choice. But didn't they get a speedster in round one?

Ryan Glasgow DL Michigan - B+
I feel this kid becomes a rotational guy and has an outside chance of starting in a year or two.

Jake Elliott K Memphis - F
Considering Zane Gonzalez went 2 round later and was way better horrible pick.

J.J. Dielman OL Utah - C
Probably could have gotten him later but I think he could be a swing interior guy that back ups three spots. There's value at that if he develops.

Jordan Evans LB Oklahoma - A-
I really liked Evans. He needs to get stronger to get off blocks but as a sub LB in coverage he will excel right away. He also is quick enough to beat blocks. It's just when he is engaged it's game over.

Brandon Wilson CB Houston - B
At this point in the draft you have to take production or height weight speed. You won't get them both. Wilson is a speedy CB who blew it up to show elite athleticism. What can he do with it is the big question.

Mason Schreck TE Buffalo - C+
Must have liked him and didn't want to hope they got him as an UDFA. Nothing wrong with that as long as it's not a LS in the 6th round.

Cleveland B+

Myles Garrett DE Texas A&M - A
Yeah, best player by far.

Jabrill Peppers DB Michigan - C+
Analytics go for height weight speed and while physically Peppers checks the boxes mentally and production are big concerns.

David Njoku TE Miami - B+
20 year old still growing and learning. If the Browns can coach him up he could be the next Jimmy Graham. We will see.

DeShone Kizer QB Notre Dame - B+
Best of what is left at this point in the QB class. The Browns instead of trading up for a Weeden or Manziel let a QB fall to them. I applaud that philosophy as this QB class was pick your flavor and no one was a clear #1 prospect. I can give as many accolades to Kizer as Trubisky so a good value pick.

Larry Ogunjobi DT NC Charlotte - B
Again height, weight, strength guy. Has the ability and decent production at a smaller school. Time will tell.

Howard Wilson CB Houston - B
Reminds me a lot of WJIII just got him a lot later.

Roderick Johnson OT FSU - C
Waste bender with long arms. Analytics says you can turn him into something. Tape says he should have stayed in College.

Caleb Brantley DT Florida - D
Yes, a D. At this point the Browns have filled every hole they had via the draft so they have the RIGHTS to sign Brantley. That is it. I wait out the court case see where it leads and if he is actually innocent then sign him. If not let his right expire and move on with him never sniffing the stench of cleveland. It's a gamble but a 6th round gamble with a team with too many picks.

Zane Gonzalez K Arizona State - A
Best kicker in the draft this late.

Question about Lawson and Williams. Both guys were pumped as potential first-round picks and were picked much later than expected. We see this happen every year. How often do these highly rated players from draft sites that fall in the draft actually develop into good players?

Two different issues:
-Lawson is health, if he stays healthy he is a top 40 talent in this deep draft
- Williams is a headcase and I doubt he can stay productive for a complete season in his whole career. When he is ON he will be a disruptive force, the thing is: where is the switch hidden?

I'm not questioning why they fell, I'm questioning the history of supposedly highly regarded prospects falling in the draft and their level of success in the NFL.

randy gregory is the only thing that comes to my mind regarding your question.

TJ Watt will be a far better player than JJ.

Jarvis Jones that is.

I wish I could look into the future as so many can. We have no idea what these guys will or will not bring to the table in the next one, two, four years.

You are pissed over a 6th round LS? A CB from Middle Eastern Central Tennessee St would have given us the same value in the late 6th round, little. A back-up QB in the 4th round, who will be competing with Landry Jones? He's NOT Ben's replacement. All the players drafted are young guys going to the next level, to prove their worth and spot on a NFL roster. Some will work out, some will not. We see it every year. Let the coaches get their hands on the rooks and watch their progression. I'd rather see the grades in a year or two. What grades were AB given? Was he under sold? Vince Williams? All I'm saying is lets watch it play out. We are the AFCN Champs. I will give them the benefit of the doubt.

All fair points, but please, don't cite us being "AFC North Champs" as some sort of trump card; that's for fans of teams that NEVER aspire to do anything more than just win the division; this is the Steelers we're talking about. We focus on Superbowls.

Cincinnati TV station urges boycott of Bengals

Well, maybe the decision to draft running back Joe Mixon won’t go over as smoothly for the Bengals as believed. Local TV station WCPO, an ABC affiliate, wants fans to skip the team’s home games in 2017.

“We are urging every Bengals fan to take drastic action,” an online editorial explains. “Instead of buying a Bengals ticket this year, take the $50 or more you would have spent on that ticket and donate the money to a nonprofit that works to prevent violence against women. . . . Enough is enough, Bengals. We can excuse another season without winning a playoff game. We can’t excuse drafting a player like Joe Mixon.”
