The Steelers add nine rookie free agents following the 2017 NFL Draft.

The Steelers have agreed to terms with nine rookie free agents, following the conclusion of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Below is a list of the nine rookie free agents.

Name Position Height Weight School
Nelson Adams DT 6-3 287 Mississippi State
Christian Brown DT 6-3 295 West Virginia
Ethan Cooper OG 6-2 322 Indiana-Pennsylvania
Francis Kallon DE 6-5 295 Georgia Tech
Keith Kelsey LB 6-0 233 Louisville
Scott Orndoff TE 6-4 253 Pittsburgh
Nick Schuessler QB 6-3 196 Clemson
Rushel Shell RB 5-9 227 West Virginia
Terrish Webb DB 5-10 190 Pittsburgh

Rushel Shell is interesting. Didn't realize he was in the draft. Left Pitt behind Conner and both are Steelers. Pretty cool.

Splain this to me. Why or why would we bring in the backup to the QB you just drafted in the 4th round? Did the dude ever play in college? Just seems very odd but not as odd as taking a long snapper in round 6.

He was Watson's backup, not Dobb's.

Do the Steelers tend to bring in too many regional guys for rookie free agents? I think so. Maybe the local guys want to stay closer to home.

Why not get more from other areas of the country? You'd have to assume the 3rd TE spot, 1-2 DB spots, and perhaps a 3rd RB spot on the team is open and rookie free agents if they are smart or have a good agent would want to come here.

Not a single big body for DL?

Hargraves I like but not a NT, so we have McCullers...and maybe Alualu inside (also not a NT). Insert maybe 4-3 coming convo here haha.

Seriously though if we stay 3-4 a big body for some competition would make sense. I realize in today's NFL a 2 down player but you can't tell me we couldn't have flipped a 5-7 pick that way to compete for shade tree's spot or at a minimum brought in a UDFA with some size/power.

They share their practice facility with Pitt. They see these kids all season and get to evaluate them over time. Stands to reason they would favor a couple.of them and they can see WV's practice field from Rooney's porch so they get perks too.

Close enough. Why pick up a college backup QB?

Two words...........Camp Body

I'm sure he will get the opertunity to shine and if he does he will move up the depth chart. Is the QB they drafted much better than Laundry JONES??? JUST CURIOUS.
