2017 NFL Draft thread

Maybe he'll suck, maybe not, but let's not forget these guys are not finished products coming out of College, Watt played the position what, only 2 seasons. Athletic and has a non stop motor. Foster is a damn good player, but he's more of a thumper type guy, what do you do with him when teams spread us out?

I don't hate the pick...but I don't see him as being ahead of Bowser. Bowser's stats are right there with Watts and in several cases slightly better. Bowser was used plenty in coverage and drops back well. He needs some work on setting the edge and some moves to beat the OT...but so does Watt.

Watt will likely be a very good OLB for the Steelers....

With TJ's motor and james Harrison pushing him in the weight room. Easy 10-15 pounds of muscle. He might of chopped a lot of wood in Wisconsin but he ain't been in his house. Lots of upside with coverage skills. If budda baker falls I hope we move up Watt a great draft that would be!!

You are looking forward to seeing him get schooled by our opponents as he "develops"? Watching his youthful exuberance drain rapidly as he realizes he isn't his brother and the NFL starters abuse him play after play?

Sweet dreams.

Not only that he has a non stop motor and great instincts, those kind of guys are very coachable and he did very well in the quickness drills.

None of that **** matters if he can't hang physically with the big boys, and I don't think he can. We'll find out. This is the AFC North. Big boys. Bad *****. We need to be drafting big boys up front. Long arms and golly good attitude doesn't mean ****.

Bloodline Schmoodline.....his other brother was a seventh round pick but let's ignore that and say he's JJ part two?

I just looked at his tape against OSU and LSU

Couldn't she'd blocks, got over powered, did NOT play every snap with intensity, looked lost half the time, played slow....honestly I didn't see anything redeeming about him and he will get very little playing time this year. Frankly I think he's going to be Jarvis Part Two

They should have gone defensive back BPA or taken a chance with Foster.....I hate this pick

Think that maybe the other brother(Derek Watt) being a fullback had a little something to do with being a seventh round pick? Hell, the fact that a fullback was even drafted at all, in a day where fullbacks are non-existent, is probably a testament to the kid.

You can't just go by sack production in college. Jarvis was plenty productive and we saw what that meant in the NFL. Being a good NFL pass rusher means you either have to be really strong or really athletic. Watt has the athletic measurable. He's quick and has long arms. WHo knows if he'll be a star but i'd be shocked if he's not at least a reliable 8 sack per year type guy.

You want to see a guy who disappears? That's Myles Garrett. He's great at times but also disappears at times. That's common for college players. Very few of them have real pass rush moves. Watt has lots to learn just like most of the other guy drafted.

Just like his brother did, not saying he'll be his brother, but JJ played TE and ran a 4.88 forty time or something, he doesn't look like a 4.8 guy on the field.

But Foster, a kid with an attitude problem who had nothing but trouble at the combine to pair with a bum shoulder, would've been the better pick? Especially when a lot of people around here are calling for this team to grow up? The dude was booted from the combine. What else needs to be said?

Watt!Watt!Watt!

Watt!

Watt is 6'4 252. He's not small. He will play on the weak side against the LT so he needs quickness. He can add weight easily. He has the frame for it unlike Jarvis whose frame was already maxed out.

I understand not wanting just a high motor guy because that was Jarvis. The difference is that Jarvis was a bad athlete and Watt is a very good athlete.

The Steelers have plenrty of big boys up front with Heyward, Tuitt, Hargrave, and Dupree. Chickillo has size. What they neede was an athlete and that's what they got.

Your missing the 10 yard sWatt that Dupree has been working on. Imagine him at 265 that his frame allows him to get to without losing the all important 40 time.

That was directed at Tape when he posted the measurables.

What I like about Watt is that he is ... instinctive. He tracks the QB or RB and makes the tackle, rather than blow past the guy. Also, looking at his film, he is damn near skinny. He can add 10 lbs. of muscle and retain his quickness.

I don't scout football players, but I have scouted baseball players. When scouts look at baseball players, one thing they look at is body type. Is the guy "maxed out" in terms of his muscle and strength, or can he get stronger and faster? If a guy is "maxed out," that weighs against his projection. Great, the kid dominates his peers, but what about getting bigger and stronger to go against adults?

Watt reminds me a lot of a hitter who is damn good, but is not fully filled out. He is going to get better, and produce against the big boys.

Who said anything about Foster?

We'll obviously find out on the field. Just seems like a big reach based on lineage and potential. At least we know we have a great coaching staff who have proven that they can develop this kind of talent into sack monsters...wait..

Is this pops or that guy that rode his bike to the store while his steak was cooking ?

If Sidney Jones will play this year, and most people think he will, is he worth our 2nd round pick?

I'd expect a run on DBs in the second, not likely we'll get a shot at Baker, Awuzie, or Obi...
