One or two surprises but not too many:

31 Atlanta Falcons Jabrill Peppers, S, Michigan
32 Arizona Cardinals (trade with Saints) Patrick Mahomes, QB, Texas Tech

Based on this it looks like we force an edge rusher. Not sure that's what I'd want to be doing at this stage. Who would you draft based on this mock?

Lawson, taco charlton, rivers are all still available, the run on CB looks bigger so I'd go Awuzie if I couldn't trade down a few spots

Not so sure about this one.... seems odd.

Willis is 6'4", 255
isnt that almost the preferred size for OLB? Porter is 6'3 and was 250ish at his peak.

Solid pick, low-risk pick, that should be a solid NFL player. He has strong physical skills and improved every year in college. Only downside is that it will take him a year to contribute, unless we go base 4-3 and let him loose.

If Malik Hooker lasts till 19 the Steelers should be moving up and drafting him.

I will go one further. If a pass rusher they want is available in the 20's, my hope is that they move up to get him. We have a few pass rush needy teams picking before us at 30.

Based on that I hope the Steelers don't RUN to the podium to make their pick but instead start calling teams in the early second to see if they want to come back and get a QB. 49ers, Bears, and Jets all could and should be looking at Mahommes so I make some calls see if the '9ers would give their #34 and pair 109 (620 vs 560+76), or Bears to give up #36 and #111 (620 vs 540+72) or Jets to give up #39, 107 and 150 (62 vs 510+80+31).

If none bite then I take King, Awuzie, Melifonwu and hope a edge guy like Rivers, or Bowser is still around in the second. I hate reaching on guys and Mayock has us reaching 1 if not 2 rounds.

yes please no running to the podium this year

well unless a attractive pass rusher is there at 30.

This is a deeper corner class. I'd go edge in round one, unless Watt and Willis have already been selected.

The way this draft falls Willis, Rivers, Bowser are all reaches at this point. If a trade can't happen I stay to my board and even go TE with Njoku if he's high on my board. TE is tough because I don't know what the Steelers are thinking about Green or how much they value James. But IMO Willis is an awful pick.

Agreed, As I noted in the other thread. Get DB's that can cover for longer, especially if they can man up and/or zone, our pass rushers are often a step/half step from the QB. Reaching for an EDGE guy doesn't solve that problem.

Our DB's and coaching staff's idea of coverage is large cushions and s soft zone. Hardly long-term coverage. Guys get open quickly.

We need better coverage people, and a better pass rush, but the philosophy in coverage MUST change vs the better QB's

you cant change that philosophy without the players. Doing so without the players is ridiculous. Which is why I say get the players and your problem goes, mostly, away.

If he's the next most talented guy at edge rusher then great but based on what TMC and Del have been saying there are maybe 4-5 other guys around and he could be around in the 2nd.

Maybe the Steelers are looking at this and laughing knowing that their board has had him as a mid-first rounder for the last three months? Who knows?
