Todd Heap

Jesus. How do you run over your own child in your driveway?

In any case, that has to be a devastated father right now. Condolences to the Heap family.

Well that's ******* sickening.

Worst story imaginable

Don't you know where she is?? look ??

Chances are this breaks up the happy household.

Because two grieving parents often don't end well.

R I P little girl............

I totally feel for that family. What a horrible situation.

As to the naysayers, it is much more common than you think.

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/19353735/.../lives-shattered-driveway-backover-accidents/

"1,200 children under 15...were killed since 2000 in nontraffic motor vehicle accidents in the United States. Half of those fatalities were in backovers, almost all of them involving children under 5...Each week, at least two children are killed and another 50 are hurt in backover accidents.

“Everybody says the worst thing that could ever happen is the death of a child,” says Janette Fennell, the advocacy group’s founder and president. “What’s different in these, in over 70 percent of the cases, it’s a direct relative of the child that’s behind the wheel — mom or dad, grandma or grandpa, aunt or uncle.”"

Not a rare occurrence. Happens all the time.

One such recent story was when a mom moved her car to make room for another car thinking her child was playing with other kids in the front yard.
A neighbor saw the child in front of the tire and started screaming but she didn't hear her.

If your heart can handle it, photos of a FEW kids killed in driveways.

I worked with a guy that cut off his 4 year old sons leg in a riding mower accident. But this is just horrific!...

I don't know if I could go on...

I hope the Heap's get the love, support, and on going help they will need...

If he has a big SUV or even any large car, how would you see a small child directly behind your car? This is as horrible as it gets, but I'd imagine this happens far too often. With my car, it has a sensor that beeps if I get too close to something backing up, but not all cars have them or cameras. Terrible for the Heap family and esp Todd. How could you go on? Pray for that family.

I've come dangerously close myself. It's way easier than you think it could be. A couple years ago I was starting to back out of my garage just as the neighbor's 4 year old was running onto our driveway to come to our house. I saw her at the last second as she ran behind my car and slammed on the brake. If I had been going a tiny bit faster...... **** like that haunts my dreams. If I had been driving a truck instead of a car, I never would have seen her.

My condolences the the HEAP family. I hope they get counseling, Botha joint and seperate. VERY hard issue and I know accidents happen but even at that it will be hard to be forgiven yet alone forgive yourself. Please let GOD be with them in many ways and for them to have the site to recieve.

Salute the nation

How terrible can he be feeling right now?

I don't know how you could ever recover from that

He was moving forward...

Very sad story that is far too common. He has a beautiful family and you hope that they can get the love and support to get by this. I cannot imagine many things worse than this.

oh, sorry, didn't hear that part. I assumed he was backing up. Breaks my heart to hear this.

I don't know how it couldn't. My niece and nephew do the same thing. You have to have your head on a swivel at all times.

This has happened at least twice in my area in the past 4-5 years. It has to be one of the worst things that can ever happen to a parent and family. My heart goes out to Todd Heap and his family, this is simply heartbreaking.

Thanks for the information Stewey. I didn't realize it was so prevalent.

Unfathomable for any parent to have to go through that.

When they are so little you simply cannot see them if they are close to the front or the rear of the vehicle.

I don't know how I'd cope with that. If I ended my 4yr old daughter, that would destroy me...

So sorry to hear about this. You're in my thoughts Todd. Horrific news...
