And if you don't have direct TV? I guess tough luck.

The Lynn Swann interview was awesome. Lots of things I didn't know about the NFL back in the 70's.

Bradshaw did a good interview with David Fehrtey on Golf Channel too.

Well, it might be on the web. Or you can get Direct TV, or stream it elsewhere.

I'll list the spoilers a bit later.

That is was. I liked Swann's story of Donnie Shell, literally knocking the the snot out of John Stallworth in practice.

Back in those days, practices, even during the season were in full pads and being a wide receiver wasn't easy.

Back in the day the Steelers use to run goal line O vs D before every game.

The game is a shell of it's former self. The 70's game was barbaric compared to now. Relentless physicality! Swann was one tough fearless sob. All of those guys had intestinal fortitude.

And they showed some nasty footage of the Steelers vs Raiders in the interview including Swann getting close lined.

You also used to be able to return kickoffs.

This bothers me. Move the ball back 5 yards on kickoffs so the fans can see more returns.

Regarding the brutality that was allowed in the 1970's, I'm not sure if the millennial group would dig it.

My friends think I'm crazy (and I might be). But to me the game was more interesting then. Love how the offensive linemen were more mobile.

Overall, not nearly as much "legislation" in the game then.

Back then you could call a catch a catch.....anymore I don't know what a catch is....and the refs call it different in every game also. So I really don't think they have a grip on it also. Another issue I have is....after every incomplete pass play that is contested I always wait and look for a flag. ALWAYS. The refs dictate the the flow and outcomes of the game today way to much.

The game seemed strategic like today's. But the definition of a catch, out of bounds etc was just simple and direct. Sports now, the catch has to be aligned under the moon, stars, the laces have to face inwards, the gloves have to match the cleats and the ref's whistle has to match the point of the ball all while retaining possession to qualify as a catch
