If he's there in round two do you pull the trigger?

From what I've heard, yes.

No, too many other needs. Might be tempted with our 3rd round comp pick if he is sill there tho . . .

No.

I do think that we need to find a replacement for Ben sooner rather than later, especially since his heart doesn't appear to be in the game anymore, I just don't think Mahomes is the answer...in any round. In fact, I don't think any of the QBs in this draft is the answer.

We need to use EVERY pick in this draft to strengthen the team around Ben for the next year or two in hopes of getting another Lombardi, and look for his replacement in next year's draft. Hopefully next year's draft will be stronger at QB than this year.

Why

I leave it up to the Steelers in their preference. But if he is clearly the best value on their board

then yes.

We no longer can push QB aside, Ben made it clear he is taking things year to year. As he could retire this year or next. It is time to bring someone in. If not this year, then next.

In round 2, he would be hard to pass up. But, you really would have to know Ben won't play more than 2 more years. You don't want his rookie contract to expire before you see him start for a year or so. Otherwise, you might end up way overpaying to keep an unproven QB like the Browns, Redskins and many others have done.

I don't like him as a prospect so I vote no. Don't think he is going to be even a mid-level franchise quarterback no matter how long he sits and learns.

My favorite QB in this draft

This is definitely a weak QB class and normally I wouldn't even think about taking a quarterback in a weak QB class but with Ben hinting at retirement i decided to take a look at who's out there. The consensus best QB is Trubisky and I agree he's probably the most NFL ready and even has the highest floor out of this class. Worst case scenario he has a 10 year career as a backup. But to me his ceiling is Alex Smith. A dependable conservative starter. Watson to me is an outstanding college QB but in the NFL his ceiling is Kordell Stewart and floor is JaMarcus Russell. I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. Mahomes to me has the highest ceiling. I see his game and his arm and I think Favre. That's a pretty high ceiling. I honestly think his floor is Jeff George. George was always an intriguing QB to me as he had so much talent teams kept giving him a chance to prove himself and he ended up having a long NFL career. I would definitely sit with Ben before and see how long is he thinking of playing. If he says 2-3 years I tell him if we draft a QB high and after 3 years he looks good we are letting him play out the last year of that rookie deal to earn a new deal. Ben is signed through 2019 so if we draft a QB we will have him under contract through 2020.

QB class so far for 2018. If Ben plays 2-3 years, then you look to next year for a QB.

To me there's only one QB next year - Sam Darnold. And I'd be willing to sell the farm for him. He's THAT good.

I don't EVER want the Steelers drafting a qb out of Texas Tech. In ANY round.

No need to draft one as I think there is one on the street we could get as a free agent........... On Good deal too!!!

Salute the nation

I totally agree. Build around Ben NOW and make the run for #7 (and possibly #8). Ben is going nowhere for 3-4 years. Too much $$$ to be left on the table and the dude is just too damn competitive to walk away.

Build the team to win with him now and for a few years. Then, when he does retire, the new guy will have an awesome supporting cast and he can be a game manager until he develops or we find the next franchise QB. That's my take.

Seems the interest is very real.

Looking at who the Steelers brought in and had interviews with I'm pretty certain if the value presented itself somewhere at round 2 to round 7 the Steelers do draft a QB. Don't know if that's Mahomes in the second or Beathard in the 7th but the Steelers look prepared to draft a QB this year.

I'm fine with drafting a quarterback. The depth chart is pretty terrible right now. What I don't want to see is the team draft a quarterback early for the sake of drafting a quarterback early. There is too much talent at several positions that the Steelers need a lot of help.

Feels like Mahomes will not be there at 30. If he is, we should take him.
