Story below, but is he worth a look and could he play in the middle?

The Cincinnati Bengals announced the release of veteran linebacker Rey Maualuga on Saturday.

The move will save the team $3.75 million against the salary cap.

Maualuga's fate might have been sealed when the Bengals signed Kevin Minter to a one-year deal worth $4.25 million a week ago.

A second-round draft choice in 2009, Maualuga played in 114 games with 104 starts over eight seasons with the team, most of any Bengals linebacker in the Marvin Lewis era.

he's redundant to Vince Williams, an enforcer with not that good coverage

whose last season took a nose dive

we wouldn't be bungling this up, not bringing him in

:couch2:

Preatty clear cinch is going ilb bama at 9

but they brought in a free agent ILber perhaps he replaces rey?

NO and we don't need no Bengal cast off. Now if it was BIRTHDEFECT then I might consider it....... But ONLY because I'd use him as a gladiatorial 1/2 time show.... I'd feed him to a BENGAL tiger, for real.

Salute the nation

i hate the ******* guy, but i'd be more than willing to root for his *** if he was on our team. he literally eliminates our best players. one by one.

Not sure I agree with that. Like someone said, they did bring in Minter at pretty decent money as a FA.

Foster makes sense if they want to move on from Burfict and his shenanigans, but there seems to be no indication from the way Cincinnati handles things that they don't want Burfict there long-term. I guess Coach Lewis likes him (wouldn't surprise me, I think all those cheap shot artists come from the attitude at the top).

They also really like Nick Vigil, whom they drafted in Round 3 last season. I think they feel he's their insurance if Burfict goes off the deep end.

Another interesting guy on their roster is P.J. Dawson. He was another 3rd round pick (in 2015) that some really liked that draft but (typically) had some off-field issues. Weirdly, he has already been waived, unclaimed and practice squaded in his career, so other teams aren't too interested in him.

I guess my point is Cincinnati has invested 3rd round picks in LB's the last two drafts. They just signed a big-name free agent. Maybe Foster is in play at #9, but I suspect not as much as many are saying.

I think Foster ends up with New Orleans at pick #11.

they'll probably draft an OLB or CB because they know it's our biggest needs

I doubt CB after picking William Jackson last year and re-signing Kirkpatrick to big money. They still have 1st round Dennard on the roster too.

I do think DE is in play, but you have to remember Cincinnati LOVE guys with long arms. They are one of the easiest teams to mock-draft for in the trenches because they have clear height/weight/arm requirements for some positions. So I'm not sure they are going to pick the same type of OLB/DE hybrid we like. I think Taco Charlton is in play for them. He fits their DE profile to a tee. And they have a 4th DE spot wide open on the roster right now after Dunlop, Johnson and Will Clarke (who they drafted in round 3 but is a free agent after this year). So another young DE makes a lot of sense.

I was being sarcastic

We have two starters at ILB. Meticavich (sp. Aka Dirty Red) as a primary backup. . They will likely draft someone in later rounds or could look at a guy like this. The fact that the Bengals dropped his 3 million contract tells me a lot.
