QB in round one?! Colbert likes someone.

Ive never seen him play. Based on their offense and his stats, he kinda screams Landry Jones to me. Is he really franchise QB material?

Not sure if he fits the franchise model, but he makes all the throws and has mobility. He seems to get the ball out faster than Landry too. I just think this QB draft is very weak.

My bad then, it's just that my brain hurts every year around this time when I occasionally see our fellow Steelers brethren pine for whatever marginally talented Pitt players are out there. I just really don't like the idea of adding a QB this year unless the team believes he can some day be Ben's successor, and I do NOT see what scouts and others are seeing in Peterman in terms of NFL potential. I just don't want any part of a pick like that. Like you I think next year is the time for a QB

Agree, next year is the time. Kind of hoping we trade back out of the first to get some ammo for the 2018 draft if an OLB is not there at 1:30 that they like.

What I don't want is a fourth round QB and I'm leary of a second round one too. No one foot in and one out. We'll MAYBE this could be the guy. I'm with Tape. If their guy falls in their lap now. Take him. Would have more impact in the long run.

Hell I'd be happy with nailing this draft then Ricky Williams'ing our next draft for Sam Darnold

I really hope Colbert looked at both took a good look at Peppers@ Glascow, Lewis after off field incident and small frame with such a deap CB crop I would not touch now.

More QB news: QB Davis Webb and S Josh Jones will be visiting Steelers facility.

I think both will go round two, my fearless prediction.

I had Josh Jones mocked for us as our round 2 pick.

He is eerily similar athletically to Mike Mitchell (who was also a surprise riser on draft day). And that athletic ability and size kind of opens him up to being a tweener FS/SS and can do both, which I think our defense likes.

Kevin Colbert attended pro day at UNC and sized up Mitch Trubisky. I'd call this a GM doing due diligence for all possible scenarios come draft day.

Colbert is using those diversionary tactics again to throw off the Sports media. Or stopped by to get some BBQ like Fiji said.

They are not going to take a QB in the first round. They have more pressing immediate needs. OLB, CB, ILB.
Kevin is doing his job and exploring all options but it doesn't mean he's targeting a QB for his first pick.
Besides, there is no QB I'd want in this years draft in the first round.
I'm sure the team has had talks with Ben and already know what his timeline is.
We fans will know soon enough.

NFL PRO DAY Results

http://walterfootball.com/proday.php

Some take aways:

As for Deshaun Watson, he had an inconsistent showing. His deep ball was good, but his accuracy was underwhelming. Watson needed a great day because of numerous lingering concerns from NFL teams, as well as his poor showing in the throwing-power drill at the combine, as his ball velocity measured at just 49 mph, which was far worse than the other top quarterbacks:

Pat Mahomes: 60 mph
Davis Webb: 59 mph
DeShone Kizer: 56 mph
Jerod Evans: 55 mph
Mitchell Trubisky: 55 mph
Brad Kaaya: 53 mph
Nathan Peterman: 53 mph
Deshaun Watson: 49 mph

Jordan Leggett. I like his triangle numbers at TE

6-6
260
4.68

Ben threw 60mph I believe. So Mahomes' arm strength is on par with Ben. I thought he was supposed to have some giant gun. Guess not. It is an nfl arm though.

The vinegar based (not red) sauce? Sooooo gooood. Used to go 5 miles off I95 to hit Parker's in Greenville when I was on the road. Cornsticks, Brunswick stew and awesome bbq, Carolina style.

How big are their heads??? Wonderlic scores??? You know Coach holds those attributes very high...

You don't measure up to them on size. Wonderlic? Just a guess you're middle of the pack.

I wonder where Marino, Farve and Elway would rate in this drill?

Tomlin, Steelers prepping for life after Roethlisberger

Published:*Mar 26, 2017 at 02:43 pm

Updated:*Mar 26, 2017 at 04:40 pm

By the start of training camp, we might look back at*Ben Roethlisberger's*retire-or-not-to-retire waffling*as a silly storyline, a manufactured Favrian imitation, short on suspense and void of intrigue.

But in Pittsburgh,*Steelers*brass is taking*Big Ben's hints at retirement as, if not a serious threat, a sign that it's time to evaluate the quarterback position.

In an interview with NFL Network's Judy Battista that will air on Wednesday during*Up To The Minute,*Steelers*coach Mike Tomlin said Pittsburgh is "proceeding" as if Roethlisberger is going to play for the organization in 2017 and noted he doesn't "spend a lot of time dwelling on it." But he added that doesn't preclude the*Steelers*from looking at acquiring a quarterback of the distant future.

When asked if Pittsburgh has been considering Life After Ben (L.A.B.), Tomlin responded, "I think we've been in that mindset for the last several years, that's what this business tells us to be in. We better start sharpening our sword in terms of evaluation of quarterbacks and what's available to us or potentially available to us, that's just due diligence. So yes, we have."

Tomlin added, "I think because of (Roethlisberger's) durability and how he plays, I don't know that we have that level of urgency, but we are taking ourselves mentally through the process. Not an easy one, obviously, but it is what it is. It's an element of the business. Guys can't play forever and he acknowledges that and we acknowledge that."

Big Ben's superhuman durability has masked the reality that the lumbering QB has incurred a laundry list of injuries throughout his career, his latest one a foot ailment that limited him down the stretch in 2016. With Roethlisberger approaching his age-36 season and whispering about retirement, it's only natural that Pittsburgh would look to secure a legitimate franchise quarterback to take up his mantle.

The*Steelers*haven't drafted a quarterback since 2013 when they selected*Landry Jones*in the fourth round. Still on the roster as*Big Ben's backup, Jones hasn't quite inspired, at least not to the point where the Pittsburgh front office would feel comfortable handing him the reins.

So are Tomlin's comments a sign that Pittsburgh will draft their next franchise quarterback in 2017? Aside from Roethlisberger in '04, the*Steelers*haven't selected a QB in the first two rounds since 1995 when Pittsburgh drafted Kordell Stewart.

But with some mocks projecting this year's crop of top signal-callers*to drop to the back or out of the first round, this just might be the year that Pittsburgh invests heavily in a Roethlisberger replacement.

We've drafted a quarterback almost every 3 years since we DRAFTED Roethlisberger. This is the same-old with this regime.

Carolina Sweet BBQ sauce vs. Low Country BBQ sauce?

NFL Network is getting ready to beat the Doom & Gloom drums of Ben retiring before the NFL Draft with that article above.
