Competition committee looking at getting rid of players leaping over the line of scrimmage on a kick attempt. I tend to agree. I think it looks stupid. Couldn't understand why the kick unit couldn't go on a silent snap, but apparently difficult.

I dunno ...... I didn't see it as a big deal....

Polamalu play would still be legal. Just not on a kick. I think what happens on a kick is they know by the time on film between the kicker saying he ready and the snap. Then their best jumper times it. If he made any contact with the centre automatic personal foul. If he clears it was legal.

At first I thought this was going to be a rule about ball carries leaping over a defender. I don't think this has enough of an impact on the game to care one way or the other.

I thought it was about the lambeau leap, **** it, if those cheeseheads can do the leap why can't AB do the crotch against the FG leap?

Let's just make it all arm tackling too. Before rushing the guy in the skirt you must count 6 Mississippi. Any hit that can be heard is a 15 yard foul.

What a ******* joke !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! There isn't even enough clarity as to weather it is a catch or not and they WASTE their ******* time on this horse **** rule?????? What about HOLDING???? How many times has that happened but wasn't called due to lack of interpritation?????? THE NFL is a JOKE and everyone except the ******* NFL thinks it, oh and Crapernick too.

yeah, no sense is helping the D stop a FG. WE NEED MORE SCORING...uhhh, I mean PLAYER SAFETY!!

My thoughts on it too. It seems like they are trying to stop any defense of a kick with this rule.

In the "good O'l days" I use to LEAP at the chance to watch NFL football, I guess now with this new rule change I might not be able to so much.

Eh...RB's can leap over tacklers, WR's can leap catching a ball...let defenders leap trying to stop a kick.

Let them jump.

I'm also for letting players jump up near the goal posts to block kicks.

If the guy times it up and jumps it would be one thing. The penalty for offside or even personal foul is non punative. It's just an educated jump. If you said half the distance on the resulting next scrimmage play that would be different.

Dumb rule... you want people to stop jumping over the line? Simple, vary your timing on the snap...OR...put one guy there to lay him out when he jumps over the line.

Don't see the problem. If a guy can jump over 6'5" OG or C and block a kick, why should he be punished?
Pretty athletic play to me. Maybe the OL should have done his job?

What is his job. To read the mind of the defender and guess when he will jump while he is looking at a target to snap to.

The defenders usually get a running start...so all they have to do is watch for it.

With their head down trying to snap.the ball to a target.

Isn't there already a rule that the defender cannot be within a certain distance of the snapper.

"(a) When Team A presents a punt, field-goal attempt or a Try Kick formation, a Team B player, who is within 1 yard of the line of scrimmage, must have his entire body outside the snapper's shoulder pads at the snap."

Therefore, unless the guy is jumping over the center from 1 yard out, the snapper is already protected. IIRC, these guys are jumping over the other lineman, who, obviously, can see him running toward them.
