yes indeed

He was one of the primary reasons our passing O took a step back...........

I look at the signing more as a threat to Coates than anyone else.

The fall of Coates over the 2nd half of last season was pretty terrible....

Yep, this is looking for a No. 4/5 guy. Coates showed signs of being a big play threat, but then injuries turned him into Limas Sweed. I still draft a receiver pretty high if I can get good value.

Dude makes some nice and tough catches. So, what's been his problem? Does he take 50% of the plays off like some of our WR's? Is he dumb and can't run routes? Does he drop all the other passes to him? What gives? Inquiring minds want to know.

I loved the kid coming out of college...hasn't quite seized the brass ring yet. Insurance.

Wheaton was blah - blah deep route running ,blah getting open, blah dropping passes - he had one good game over 100 yds in his career - that's it

Ben really likes his downfield threats to spread the defenses - hopefully new guy can show enough to make some noise

5 ******* WIDE, *******!

Could have used a couple more exclamation points (the recommended number is 3) but still an A+

2013 Analysis.

but - hypothetically - if we got Coates and Hunter to work with AB on catching the ball... going FIVE WIDE would prove very difficult for any defense to match up against.

/QUOTE]

Shouldn't that read: "FIVE WIDE *******"?

Lack of comma after "wide" and no exclamation marks. Fail. :peep:

He needs another 10-15 pounds on that big frame.

still no news in the contract #s?

4 years, 42 million.

Seriously. How many heads just assploded?

Thread title fooled me for a second. I was expecting a Yinzer version of MILF Hunter.

Not sure what to expect out of this signing. I guess he's Martavis insurance policy

I think it's more to compete with Coates. No way do you expect a guy like Hunter to come in as an insurance to a No. 2 receiver (at least I'd hope not).

This signing means the team is not confident in Coates anymore. After last season, who can blame them?

ding ding

The Coates train has left the station

It's not just Coates they aren't confident in. It's most of the WR group. Right now, we have AB and Rogers as the top 2. Bryant will make the team unless he fails another drug test but you don't know if he will be the same player. Even when he did play, he had a bunch of drops to go along with his long catches. Everyone else will be fighting for a roster spot.

I still see WR being drafted in the first 4 picks although 1 and 2 absolutely must be OLB and CB.

This is what we always do. Depth signings heading into the draft but then we still end up identifying "need positions" and addressing those with any pick round 4 or higher. After round 4 we normally just are looking for special teamers or guys to stash on the practice squad.

I think it's pretty obvious with our 5 picks round 4 or better we are looking at OLB, ILB, CB, WR, RB.

They are going to replace Jones, Timmons, Gay, Wheaton and Williams in the draft and have cheap veterans compete with the rookies for playing time.

Steelers M.O. to a tee.

round

1 OLBer as the drop off is quick IMO
2 Here is where it gets tricky they will look for value at the 4 remaining CB /S / ILB / RB /WR . All things even ILB or CB
3 Extra pick so they will see one as a luxury pick possibly so I can see one of the picks being RB or WR and the other pick either the corner or ILBer position they didn't pick.
4 The RB or WR position that wasn't picked or a QB
5 whichever wasn't picked in 4
6 and 7 best BPA whatever is left over

I think their lack of free agency won't force them to leave the BPA altogether, but what I do think it does is have them BPA at those positions of need.

Only exception was S that I added, as I think with how deep this S class is they might take a nibble on drafting one within 1-5.

TE in that 3rd round, or 4th at most lately
